What an awesome landscape once again! This entire race has been pretty special. "Let me hyperventilate in peace" sounds like my new mantra. Thanks for that Syd!
So happy to be able to support you two on Patreon, and then be able to get this great content early (even though that's not WHY I do it). Those chest-mounted cameras give a very immersive experience, and Madeira is beautiful to see. Definitely one of my favorite YT channels.
The pink flowers on tall stems are Amaryllis belladonna (in Australia commonly "Naked Ladies"), think they are native to the Cape Province of Republic South Africa.
Congrats on the 100k subs. It's amazing to see my country through your eyes. Your content is great and the only thing probably missing is a bit of a deeper dive into how you set up your bikes and everything else for this type of challenge.
Awesome riding. Great to see Syd racking up those #1 finishes. Gotta say I LOVE the sunken trail with canopy so it looks like a tunnel. And those pink flowers look like hyacinth, but I'm most likely wrong.
Amaryllis Belladonna, colloquially known as _Naked Ladies_ we have all those plants and weeds etc down here in NZ, that place looks just like NZ it's surreal.
Those were Surprise Lilies aka Resurrection Lilies. The leafy part grows and stores energy then completely dies off the later the single stems grow out of the barren looking ground and flower. Very cool to have in your yard (had some at a previous house).
Those stages looked slicker than snot on a door knob!! Definitely something I'd be slow on. You two did a great job staying upright. Y'all definitely had a great strategy dealing with it. Better to be a little cautious than ruining your race in a crash. Riding smarter keeps you in the battle. Good luck on the next day. 👍👊
I loved all the fast tunnel sections. Wonderful! If you two really want to train on damp fog drip’d terrain, you could always come to my backyard in the Humboldt County redwoods (NorCal) and get your slip-n-slide on. 😶🌫️
I watch all your videos and I have my heart in my throat almost always. Why? Because i could see myself wiping out on narrow paths between trees. Also when you are inches from going off a cliff. I'm sure you have lots of accident stories you could tell. Would you consider doing a video like that with your friends..for your fans..I would luv that..Happy trails and good health always:)
Madeira is so slippy when it's wet that's why they call it Madeira glass!!!, I would imagine a lot of the other races would have ridden some of trails before.
The topography of the island is so amazing. All the sections with walls on both sides - are those natural ravines or manmade paths cut thru the terrain?
I was VERY surprised Macky got 15th on that one stage because he seemed to hit everything and even kamikaze'd some switchbacks but then again I didn't see the whole stage nor did I see the other riders nor did I see their times.
I'm curious if Macky looked at those finishing ahead of him and what fluctuation there is with those riders' performance/placements. Is it a matter of output, skill, or pure luck? I'd love to see Macky do better with better competition.
The JET is a 120/140 trail bike. We're riding the WFOs in this race which are 170/180mm. While both can be great for Enduro, depending on the course, I would definitely qualify the WFO as more of a real Enduro bike!
I know you guys have gone through lots of different hubs. What type of freehub engagement have you guys had the best luck with? Paws or the gear type or some other I've never heard of?
Just noticed you're using the USWE packs ( as I'm looking to get something more secure than my camelback). Which ones do you have and would you say they're as secure as they promise?
We've been quite happy with how securely they fit. We have the Outlander 3L and the Airborne 9L and talk a bit more about the pack and what we carried for the race in the day 5 video that will go live Friday (and is correctly available on Patreon)
Awesome! The fitter you are, the more fun you'll have and if you have the opportunity to do bike park laps with a chairlift, definitely do that to help with the descending fatigue! And a little hike a bike practice wouldn't go amiss.
I am pretty sure it was actually the GoPro mount because I never heard the squeaking in real life and yet it was SO LOUD on the video. Sorry about that :(
The flowers look like Surprise Lillies also known as "Naked Ladies" as the leaves die off before the flowers emerge. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycoris_squamigera
Can't wait for Day 5? Watch it early on Patreon: www.patreon.com/sydandmacky
When is the "Let me hyperventilate in peace" t-shirt coming out?
I need this too!
I'd buy one 😂👍
Pant in Peace

Amazing talents you both are...
Thank you! 🙏
This is an amazing adventure. You are blessed to travel around the world.

Nice riding u 2. Best mtb content on YT these days. Just doing what u do and it’s great!

Amaryllis Belladonna (Naked Ladies) 👍🏻
Amaryllis Belladonna, colloquially known as _Naked Ladies_ we have all those plants and weeds etc down here in NZ, that place looks just like NZ it's surreal.
Yep! We have them in the Nor Cal coastal areas
Those were Surprise Lilies aka Resurrection Lilies. The leafy part grows and stores energy then completely dies off the later the single stems grow out of the barren looking ground and flower. Very cool to have in your yard (had some at a previous house).
Great riding guys. The flowers looked like Naked Ladies. Hi from Melbourne Australia 😊
❤ you guys continue to be so awesome! If you need a home base for some very wet PNW winter/spring riding, there's a room in Seattle for you here!
Those stages looked slicker than snot on a door knob!! Definitely something I'd be slow on. You two did a great job staying upright. Y'all definitely had a great strategy dealing with it. Assegai and DHR II - Nince choice. Basically the only tire combination you'll see from North Vancouver to Whistler. Perfect combo for sticky dirt.
Solid Racing both of you🎉.. Macky solid warp speed in stage 22🎉🎉
That was awsome!! Thank you for sharing this adventure with everyone!! Yall look soo fast and make it look easy! Really enjoyed it!!
Looks beautiful. Love watching your adventures. Thank you for sharing.
Congratulations on 100K subscribers.
Such earthy trails and gorgeous vistas! Superb riding as well!
WOW! Need to get my Oculus goggles on and watch the video again so exciting, thanks for sharing.
Excellent vid and editing. You guys have the most exciting stuff on RUclips
Perfect vid!!! ❤
This video and these trails were designed for both of you I’m glad to see you guys enjoyed them they looked fun !!
You two are amazing, love watching your videos and the information you provided during your video (tire choices)
Epic... that is all..🙌
It's funny seeing eucalyptus forest elsewhere (Spain and Portugal planted a HEAP of them) - looks like Australia . .esp'lly the mid-NSW coast.
It looked like riding in Queensland....
ALOT of fun to watch!! Nicely done.
Best come to WA this winter
Mackie's way of getting past people is excellent 😂 he's so polite.
I loved all the fast tunnel sections. Wonderful!

Incredible 👏 I wanna go now!
The pink flowers are probably a species of Amaryllis.
Day 4 west end trails are the best!
Amazing! 😎👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Nice job on the skinny of death, Syd lol
I'm with Syd vis-à-vis the precipice. No thanks.
I watch all your videos and I have my heart in my throat almost always. Why? Because i could see

High relative humidity - sweat won't evaporate easily, so less cooling = feeling hotter = even more sweating.
Madeira is so slippy when it's wet that's why they call it Madeira glass!!!, I would imagine a lot of the other races would have ridden some of trails before.
Just gotta love this couple more and more with each new vid! Highlight of my week!!
that was awesome! :)
Well done guys. Wish I could afford patrion…
Those flowers look to my like "Naked Ladies"
The topography of the island is so amazing. All the sections with walls on both sides - are those natural ravines or manmade paths cut thru the terrain?
I think those are surprise Lillie’s.
🤘
So sick! Are the 5-star rankings for Technical and Physical ratings provided by you both or the race organizers/trail builders? Keep jamming!!! 🤙🏽
Those came from the race organizers. We got a booklet at the beginning of the race with all the details
We love watching you guys.
Question: what is the MPH you are hitting on the down hill runs?
The flowers look like "Naked Ladies"

Rad
another awesome video, thanks for posting it......Macky would have done better if he used Niner's real endure bike....the Jet

How do you design the great logos ?
What speed are you guys coming down at? It looks crazy fast.
I know you guys have gone through lots of different hubs. What type of freehub engagement have you guys had the best luck with? Paws or the gear type or some other I've never heard of?
We've been quite happy with all of hubs this year, the DT180, Onyx Vespers and I9 Hydras
Just noticed you're using the USWE packs ( as I'm looking to get something more secure than my camelback).

I signed up for 2024! Any training your recommend to get ready for the big days?
Awesome! The fitter you are, the more fun you'll have and if you have the opportunity to do bike park laps with a chairlift, definitely do that to help with the descending fatigue! And a little hike a bike practice wouldn't go amiss.
Blinduro XD
What is rgat automatic tire inflator called?
We talk about it here: ruclips.net/video/Pf-HyxFvybo/видео.html
Do you guys run clip pedals for this race?
Yup
How many women are participating in Trans-Madeira? Thank you for sharing!!!
I think there were about 15 of us!
Syd’s suspension is squeaking.
I am pretty sure it was actually the GoPro mount because I never heard the squeaking in real life and yet it was SO LOUD on the video. Sorry about that :(
Is the cycling clothing sold out?
Yeah the orders closed at the the if October but we'll be doing another order sometime this spring.
