You nailed it on the head. The Sierra has a bit of character that modern disposable cars seemed to of lost. For an old car they still drive well and can be entertaining. Basic mechanicals and a layout that lends itself to engine conversions etc has landed itself in the limelight’s 32 years after production ended. They are a car that people can relate to from days gone by and nostalgia always wins. Near enough everyone has some sort of tale about a Sierra.
,it's when Ford's actually had status and character, ( mid 1960's,70's,80's and 90's ) to me the Sierra will always be a good car , I grew up around fast Ford's,, my dad had 3 Cossie's in his time , 88 rear wheel drive sapphire cossie, 87 RS500 Cosworth and a 91 sapphire 4x4 cossie , 😎👍
Video so good I've watched it twice in half an hour and sent it to my dad and son. ❤. Great seeing a video from Boys at home. Absolutely smashing content lads. Well done ❤
I always saw the Sierras as like a poor man's twincam. It's funny how they've became desirable now because back in the day they were just a dirt cheap way to get a RWD and weld the diff up in, cut the dung out of it for a few weeks until it's clapped out and take it to the Destruction Derby. At that time average twincams were below two grand and minters were maybe three and a half or four grand. By comparison a half decent Sierra was maybe £500. One time I was looking something cheap and bought a burgundy 2.0 pinto with 33k on the clock off some old Orangeman about 90 who had it from new.. and it was still like new. Full service history, covers on the seats. It was immaculate. It was in one of those old yellow papers the Buy and Sell or Ads for Free or something like that at £500 and I gave him £450 for it. Which everyone thought was far too much to give for a Sierra, even a mint one like that. Every weekend me and my mate used to get a carryout and drift it around his Da's transport yard all day. It ended up in Nutt's Corner destruction derby about a month or so after I bought it because by that time it was clapped out. Each to their own but I always thought Sierras were a heap of dung personally even back then. I never saw the attraction to them but I guess it's just whatever you're into. That said, some people think the same about twincams. But in my opinion even a bad twincam was ten times the car a good Sierra was.

I used to have a GLX 1800 possibly the best car I ever had it was comfortable speedy and stylish so much so that the headlight wipers were always being vandalised 🇬🇧
I spent the first 10 - 12 years of my Garda career in a sierra - at least when I was allowed to sit in a garda car (mostly on the beat and motorbike) They were all 1.6's and Ford made them as basic as they could for us - no (non garda) radio even. They used the hatchbacks first but as soon as the saloons appeared switched to them. They were good cars in a chase - very sure footed on the road but overall I did not like them very much. But then I never drove one as I had not done the car driving course.
Like MST with the Mk 2 and Mk1, as well as Singer with Porsche, it is only a matter of time before the Sierra is reimagined and modified for today’s world on a commercial scale. Would be an opportunity for M-Sport, like Prodrive does with the Impreza.
Can remember a friend bought a sierra for the back roads, we tried to change a back wheel got the studs of but wheel was rusted on tight. Only one thing to do take her out for a good rip we must have ripped about for half hour before the wheel fell of 😎
Summed up, everyone wanted a Cossie sapphire, not everyone could afford one, 2.0 8v sapphires were kitted up, then not everyone could afford them, then people started settling for hatches and pintos…. And then it ended up that not many could really afford them either lol, but the whole thing stemmed from people wanting to have a cosworth sapphy the same way you see diesels kitted as golf r’s, like think about it, there was a time when is200 owners were trying their hardest to let on the car was an altezza 😂
