    The couple who restored that cottage deserve to get every penny they can get - as well as a medal for saving such a fabulous piece of property. Absolutely gorgeous!

    Sarah was so right about that chapel. That guy totally messed up that renovation. The mezzanine allowing the front room to go up with full windows and a chapel roof was spot on, as was the relocation of that stairway. Sarah has so much experience in property renovation, why don't these people take her advice?

      I can't decide whether some of them are just plain stupid or just too arrogant, until I remember that stupidity and arrogance go hand-in-hand: the stupid are always sure they are right, and the arrogant are always sure they are not stupid.

    The theme seems to be that those who listen to Beeny, a highly successful property broker, do a whole lot better than those who discount her advice. In the case of the chapel, she was certainly right. Didn't build a family home and didn't take advantage of the building's character.

    The cottage is absolutely gorgeous! Too bad all the unique features of the church, like the spectacular windows and soaring ceiling, were covered up. Why bother buying a church if you're going to do that? A shame.

    Am I the only one that think the one couple looks like Monica and Chandler from friends but as they would be as the age Monica and Chandler are today, not the age they were when the show originally aired.

    ACTUALLY... in the end, the chapel wasn't as bad as I'd thought it was going to be. On 'Escape To The Country' they've shown chapels that were unfathomable (to me) as a living space. I underestimated this guy. He did a good job, although, as always, he could have listened to Sarah a BIT more. Still, thank God he shelved the wallpaper idea! I thought BOTH properties were well done.

    What I don't get is; why choose an unconventional building, only to chicken out during the reno process, by turning the interior into a conventional family home? Such dichotomy should be a crime! No buyer in their right mind; for that particularly small market, would buy such property...regardless of the high-end finishes. It's like having a Lamborghini exterior with a station wagon interior LMAO that's just straight up wrong. Had he taken advantage of that mezzanine, he would have easily bagged half a mil. His final words were his wisest. Property investment isn't for him.

    You don't buy that chapel for boring modernity. You want drama and grandiosity. Stairways and balcony with a view.

    It's too bad he did put a full 2nd floor in the chapel because it would have been very dramatic if the front part of the house was open to showcase the windows. It would have made the space look so much larger.
    I've had a central vacuum system in two different homes and love it. I find it much easier and less tiring to use than a conventional vacuum which can get pretty heavy after a while. You don't need to haul the hose around the house with a built in system. You just stretch the hose out full length and then start vacuuming. When you've reached as far as the hose will go you plug it into another outlet and continue with your vacuuming.
    Here in the U.S. there's now a trend to build bigger houses on smaller lots because lots have gone up so much in price. Building codes here require a minimum lot size of .25 of an acre.
    I guess we're very spoiled here in the U.S. because we consider a .25 acre lot small.

    • @happydays1336
      @happydays1336 3 года назад

      @@MrsEJV Wow...1 1/4 acres is a lot as far as being affordable. I think property taxes are getting higher everywhere. We moved farther out and bought a smaller house to save money and have lower property taxes.
      I bet the 1 1/4 acre lots are nice--as long as you don't mind extra yard work (another reason we moved to a smaller place).

      @happydays1336 3 года назад

      @@alisonbarratt3772 That's a great idea. Your solution is a lot cheaper than installing a central vacuum system.
      My problem is that I have MS and pushing anything with a heavy motor really tires me out. My husband bought me a battery powder vacuum because he thought it'd be easier for me to use, but it's very tiring, too, because the motor is heavy and you have to continually pull the trigger for it to go. (We bought an older house 3 months ago that doesn't have a central vacuum system. I miss it!)
      Before my MS symptoms appeared I had no problem with a regular vacuum. It was always scary lugging a vacuum up the stairs.

    People think ANYONE can design a house. NOT SO. There are a million ways to muck up a building. The guy who bought the church, in his stubbornness, even when SHOWN how it could be properly, BEAUTIFULLY done... clung to an outdated notion. How could anyone think that paltry windows that begin at the floor and end at the knees are a 'feature' ?!?! THAT alone would have me saying "No." to a house, I wouldn't care WHAT the rest of it offered.
    Design takes actual Vision.

    Space and light, says Sarah Beeny, Space and Light.
    Space and light? says the developer? People will never buy space and light. What people want is for you to raise their expectations as they approach the building, and then let them down with a resounding thud when they walk in the door. That's how you sell a building!
    Sigh.
    Chapel ended up looking like a long corridor. Meh.
