Heidi Hendrick

Heidi Hendrick is a multi-sport phenom whose
versatility and prowess have captivated audiences both
locally and internationally.
Heidi's journey to greatness began at Nouvel Catholic Central in Saginaw Township, where she showcased her remarkable athleticism across multiple sports, earning an impressive total of 12 varsity letters from 1996 to 1999. Whether swimming, basketball, soccer, volleyball, or softball, Heidi's talent knew no bounds, leaving spectators in awe of her skill and determination. Notably, she was an honorable mention All-State in both soccer and basketball. Her dedication was evident as she competed in high school swimming and basketball in the same season, demonstrating her exceptional time management and commitment to her craft.
In the realm of swimming, Heidi emerged as a true standout. Her accolades speak volumes, with the prestigious title “Four-Time All-American” in the 50M and 100M Freestyle, with five individual MHSAA State Championships. She won the 50 freestyle in 1996 and 1998 as well as the 100 freestyle in 1996, 97, and 98. During this time she held all of the school records in the individual events at Nouvel Catholic Central. Her dominance in the pool earned her the title of “Michigan Class B-C-D Swimmer of the Year” in 1998, solidifying her status as a swimming prodigy. Additionally, Heidi was a three-time Raymond Hart Award Winner as the top swimmer in the area, further highlighting her exceptional talent and impact on the local swimming community.
Continuing her swimming career at the collegiate level, Heidi made waves at both the University of Texas from 1999 to 2001 and the University of Notre Dame from 2001 to 2003. Heidi's achievements include being a part of the Conference Championship winning teams with Texas in the Big 12 in 2000 and 2001, and with Notre Dame in the Big East for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Her leadership qualities were also recognized as she was named a captain during her senior year at Notre Dame, further exemplifying her influence and dedication to her team.
Additionally, Heidi was honored as a Knute Rockne Scholar Athlete award winner, highlighting her commitment to excellence both in the pool and in the classroom.
But Heidi's athletic prowess extended beyond the confines of the pool. In a
remarkable display of versatility, she transitioned to the sport of Modern Pentathlon, made up of swimming, fencing, horse jumping, running and shooting, where she represented Team USA on the world stage. Heidi's dedication and skill propelled
her to the pinnacle of Modern Pentathlon, earning her a spot on the World Team in 2022 and 2023 and a remarkable 2nd ranking in the USA. She has competed in two World Modern Pentathlon Championships (2019 and 2023) and is rated nationally in Fencing.
Heidi's journey in modern pentathlon reached its pinnacle at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, where she competed for Team USA in the Olympic qualifying event and finished an impressive 21st, showcasing her resilience and determination on the international stage.
Today, we proudly honor Heidi Hendrick as she takes her rightful place in the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame, celebrating her remarkable achievements and enduring legacy in the world of sports. Her journey serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that with dedication, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of excellence, anything is possible.
