I just got the FG3. Intonation is spot on. I played the 3 and 5. Both phenomenal guitars. I played Martin's and Taylor's also and these Yamahas are right on par.
The FG3 I bought had some cosmetic issues (very small) that I wasn't cool with. It sounded great. If that's the top of your budget, get one. Upgraded to the FG5. It's an amazing Japanese made guitar. There are some great guitars made in Japan, as has been the case for decades. Most of the high dollar Gretsch guitars are made there, and they're also awesome. Also, contact whatever shop or retailer before buying and see if they can give you a deal. Got 200 off mine at SW.
Your a Legend my man, I just started playing and I can only imagine things like this, but it gives me joy to see you rock out, an absolute Rockstar, loved it Cheers 🍻
Thanks for sharing, really enjoyed your playing. Nice clear and smooth tones from that FG5, looking at a 3 month old one for sale here in Denmark right now..
Dang, that guitar sounds amazing. I'm trying to decide between the dreadnought and auditorium style. I typically like a OOO body, but the dreadnought sounds great as well.
I have owned the fgx 3 for a year or so. Love it. But I just acquired an Eastman OM10 that is 7 years old, a few days ago. Both guitars are great, and both are going to be keepers. You ought to focus on the sound profile you are looking for and style of play you want go with.. Either one will make you happy, but they are very different. Both are fine with any style of play, but the low end and overall volume is more pronounced on the dread, while the OM is more balanced and sweeter. The x gives you electronics, which can be handy. The OM has none. Dread for bluegrass flatpicking, for sure, OM for fingerpicking, but The OM is great for strumming to. Can’t go wrong, either way.
I just picked one up and I like it so far but it's a little too bright and also a bit thin and tinny sounding. I hope some medium strings will take care of that.
Awesome! Yeah what size strings and what they're made of will change a guitar overnight! Some Phosphor bronze 12s or 13s would bring a whole other sound to this guitar.
Elixir strings makes everything sound bright, especially the 80/20's. Throw a set of Martin or D'addario medium PB's on that and boom...like a smack in mouth!
@@stevebernard221 Have you used mediums on one? Others told me that it's braced for light strings and that I shouldn't put mediums on it. I tried some earthwood light strings on it but I actually liked the elixirs better and went back to them.
@@ariverrunsthroughitfans9002 Hey. All I use on my guitars are mediums and the majority of them came set up with lights. It's crucial to have a proper set up done for best results when changing string gauges, especially if your using medium elixirs. They have more tension than a regular string. I have a 1983 Yamaha L-10A, she is set up with mediums and is a Canon. I'm sure if you contact Yamaha or a good luthier they will say that the guitar will be fine going up or down one string gauge. Let me know how you make out!
I replaced a Gibson J50 with my Yamaha F160 Special Edition. The Yamaha is a much better Guitar. Then I bought a FG5 a couple of years ago. It is amazing.

Have you played an Eastman? I’m trying to decide between the two. Cannot decide!!

Great playing! I love finger style country blues on a dread 💪😎🎸
Thanks so much!
Great sound and guitar playing. This proves that you don't have to pay 3-4K to have a great guitar with amazing sound.
I think I need to get me one of those !!!! Your playing is amazing! I wish I could play like that! Thanks for the video Mike!
Just got my fs5 in from Sweetwater. Your video helped me decide. It's a wonderful guitar and you're a killer guitarist! Thanks!

There's a clip with Dan Alder playing the smaller one (fs) which I was impressed by.
Nice Job. I have the FGX3. So good. Want the 5.
Nice playing, Mike !
That G-tar sounds real good.
Good playing
Nice
I own one of these and have decided it sounds a lot like a Martin D18.
very nice!
Very nice👍🏻
These come stock from Yamaha with Elixir nano light gauge 80/20 strings
Ohh right that makes sense.
I wish I could play like this.
Do You still have it? How is it holding?
Mine is coming today
I'm on the fence between grabbing one of these or an Eastman OM. Decisions!

I suggest Daddario Nickel Bronze. They get very mellow after a little bit of playing

Has anyone played the along LL16D are ? How do they compare ?
What guage strings do you use?
What kind of strings are on the Yamaha? Sounds great!
Hey Jordan thanks! I think they're D'addario 12s, haven't changed em since I got my hands on it!
Tried one out very bright and tinny
Matin is so far better for tone and sound
