Not OP but had a run in with Hanta about 8 years ago now. Got very lucky and only developed bloody pneumonia; Hantavirus can and will kill you. Spent a month struggling to breathe and coughing up blood, thankfully only needed at-home therapies and no hospitalization though. Buddy of my sister caught it and had to be placed in a medically induced coma for a while.
In the years since I've had worsened asthma symptoms and get out of breath noticeably easier, and I have relatively minor damage. I have asthma attacks more easily than I did prior and with much more severity. I have to be careful when doing anything active; even marching in the pride parade last year almost took me down, and I'm very glad I packed my inhaler.
The severity of the damage influences these after effects a lot, but when even minor damage can make breathing a struggle... It's not something you want to experience. Granted, being overweight and generally physically unwell thanks to autoimmune issues I have other compounding factors, but the scarring has had a lasting effect.

@@Koraxus the problem isn't my management, it's my diabetes itself. My blood sugars are completely sporadic and will raise themselves without having ate a single thing. Sometimes I'm able to catch it, have a corrective dose of insulin and everything will be fine. Other times, I'll be issuing bolus after bolus, my body rejecting the insulin, blood sugars climbing and will end up in an ambulance with diabetic ketoacidosis. This has been the case for over 300 admissions in the last 4 years. My management is considered quite good, my diabetes is unmanageable. You see why I'm worried when I'm doing my part to avoid the virus but I'm inadvertently being forced into a breeding ground for it already with a compromised immune system. Cases in my local area are on the rise again, too - a fun situation

I am so glad you made a video about this. I know someone who got it early in the year, he's 29, he *still* hasn't recovered his sense of smell or taste, his energy is much lower than it used to be, and he's been having issues with significant "brain fog" (hard to concentrate, forgetting what he was just talking about, etc.). He's also been struggling with depression because he just feels like he can't be the person he used to be before he had to deal with this.
That's why I get a little angry when I hear people say that it's not a big deal or that everyone should just expose themselves to the virus to "get it over with." Just surviving doesn't mean you're "over it." So many people will have to suffer the effects of this for years to come. 😞

      - Me: "That's the thing, simple chirurgical or paper masks were made to protect Other people from you by trapping 80% of the coughs and breaths in the mask and letting the rest travel very short distances, preventing you from basically polluting the air, if everyone wears masks, everyone is protected from each other, then i wouldn't need this silicone mask, were the P3 filter is designed to protect Me"
      - Them: "I got tested, it was negative, so i'm not infected, so i don't have to wear a mask"
      - Me: "You could have been infected After you got tested at any point, not even knowing you are infected right now"
      - Them: "Honestly, i don't care if i got anyone infected, that's a Them problem"
      - Me: "Even if it was your friends or family, your mother or Grandfather and he might die and suffer because you accidentically infected them?",
      - Them: "Don't care, not my problem".
I want to help and want to believe in people wanting to do good, but honestly, there are Waaayyy to many shitty people around us, we need protection from egoistic trash way more then the virus itself (which isn't that hard to protect yourself from).
If we want this virus to stop spreading as fast as it does, we need to start changing the way of thought of people like that, or enforce laws (or something else, i dunno), these people are gonna ensure this pandemic gets worse, no matter what advice or fear we spread, even after most of them (and humanity) die or are hospitalized.

Anyway, my thought, always assume you might have got infected, no, rather assume Everyone is infected, even if nobody is, that way you will be more cautious and careful toward people you care about in the case one day a sudden mass infection spreads in your neighborhood without anyone realizing.
Also, try your best not go get anyone infected, but more than that, try Not get yourself infected, at all costs, if you get infected, You are the one possibly suffering and maybe dieing, if you are doctor working with Covid-19 patients, you are now degraded to a patient and there will be 1 less doctor now.
Even if you feel lonely (or your friends or family wants you to visit, or visit you) or need to go to work or go for supper, if you aren't careful enough and get infected, it's over, social life is not worth it if you Die, even if you don't, if you need medical attention, you might get in debt for the rest of your life if you need to pay medical fees.
And of course, try to educate and change thoughts of people you care, who are willing to listen and think about what you are saying.

Many chronic illnesses (such as M.E/C.F.S) are triggered by viruses and infections. As one of the millions who has lived with this for decades I can tell you our societies are not prepared to care for those with long-term symptoms of any sort. We are hidden in our homes, and lucky to receive acknowledgment from professionals. My fiancé and I are recovering from COVID being diagnosed almost 3 weeks ago - we had some similar symptoms but some very different ones too. I had a skin rash, blurry vision, confusion, asthma attacks, headache, fever for days. His symptoms seemed mild but now he’s having spurts of it all again. My epilepsy and seizures are a long term concern and I wonder what the long term outlook is between cancer survivors and COVID like my fiancé.

    • @ResidualSelfImage
      @ResidualSelfImage 3 года назад +2

Epileptics are often prescribed a ketogenic diet (low carbohydrate high protein diet) which can boost the immune system … Covid19 symptoms like blurry vision, confusion and headaches are associated with hypoxia ..lack of oxygen in the blood which is less than 92% oxygen levels when measured with an oximeter ....which suggest covid19 virus is causing Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) ..or a bacterial/fungi coinfection so the doctor should have given you an anti RNA viral drug like remdesvir or favipiravir for SARS-cov-2 infection , the skin rash might suggest cytokine overreaction(CSS) so he could have prescribed an anti inflammatory anti CSS drug like methadexasone, and a Zpak/antifungal for a possible coinfection… to be overly cautious an elevated ferritin serum test could justifies an anti inflammatory drug like methadexasone.. and elevated d-dimer test would justify a blood thinner to avoid Multiple Inflammatory Syndrome(associated with blood clotting in the brain, aka strokes) …...both you and your fiancé should get tested for Covid19 antibodies... why? ... if antibodies did not form it means the innate immune system NOT the adaptive immune system had beaten back the virus and not adaptive immunity was achieved but only a very strong innate immune system occured. If the innate immune system won the day … then keeping the innate immune system very strong by staying away from carbohydrates/starch/sugars, eating probiotic foods, and keeping the vitamin D levels up is needed …Note also that men who have just had Covid19 infection may carry the SARS cov-2 virus in their semen/sperm and can transmit the virus by sexual intercourse so wearing a condom is need for the first month or so after the doctor give you the all clear... Both of you need to go on a hygiene binge from head to toe. keeping clean is the most fundamental way to beat a virus...Cancer Survivors need to be regularly monitored by their oncologist for the first 5 to 8 years after their first diagnosis...subsequent treatments are tricky complicated and problematic at times.... yeah ...you and your fiancé have significant personal health care challenges and concerns.. here is wishing you the best of luck...

it's actually a respiratory AND circulatory virus.
it blocks the ACE2 receptor, which prevents angiotensin 2 from converting to angiotensin 1, 7 -
this increases the amount of superoxides (ROS), which damage the endothelial lining of the blood vessels.
the damage of blood vessels releases excess von willebrands factor, which causes microthrombi in the entire body.
these clots can cascade, and create larger clots - creating the potential for ischemic events.
    it's a mean little critter.

(For those whom might care to read)
So I'm pretty sure I've recently gotten over a Covid infection and this video about the potential long lasting effects is quite worrisome, given my experience.
I am based out here in the middle east, on a small, cramped, military compound and we seem to all have recently gone through the illness, at about the same time. The virus got into the compound via uneeded movement, which then spread given our small area/proximity. The people in my department compared their experiences with this random infection and were all pretty similar, so I assume we all got it.
For some perspective, I'm 29, I workout regularly, drink tons of water and eat pretty healthy. I hardly ever get sick, not even as much as a headache.
This illness I experienced was much like a "Heat Cold" or "The Man Flu" as some might say. It definitely affected my ability to breath and, to some extent, function normally.
Nothing too extreme, I assume thanks to my age and health, but some of the effects have still not gone away and I have heard of others like me who weren't so fortunate.
My experience wasn't too too bad but it definitely wasn't pleasant either.
Strong body aches, mild headaches, very lethargic with a loss of taste and smell.
It took me about a week to get over the stronger symptoms and then another week to get over the rest but to this day I still cannot seem to keep the same level of intensity at the gym or when out putting higher effort. As far as normal everyday functions that doesn't involve some kind of strenuous physical tasks, I am 99% normal with slight bouts of sudden social irritation.
I feel short tempered lately but that could be because of XYZ lol.
Anyways, I have a more difficult time catching my breath when I lift and I can't seem to get enough blood to the brain like I used to (I get dizzy quickly and with an intensity I haven't felt since I first started working out)
I don't normally get sick but even when I do I would still be able to lift just fine. This last episode definitely seems to have hindered my energy, perfusion and breathing.
Areas I don't normally struggle with.
I am still a little off.
I'm into my third week now monitoring myself.
I would deff suggest keeping an eye out for tbese potential lasting side effects or maybe see about getting checked out, if at all possible. Especially if you have gone through it yourself and are a part of the at risk population.
I am very familiar with what my body can do and how my breathing normally is and I will be keeping tabs on myself to see how long this lasts and to what extent I was effected (from what I can see myself anyways.)
Hopefully there aren't long lasting effects but it potentially seems like it can be quite troublesome for some people.
Thankfully I am relatively young, in good shape and take care of myself but I can only imagine the older people and then older people with pre existing medical conditions.
Infact, now that I think about it, one of our own guys passed out and had to be transported to the clinic. He claimed it was from the heat but now I am assuming it was actually from the illness..
If anyone has had similar experiences I would love to hear!
    Thanks and be safe!

The body has two ways of attempting to recover from damage: repair (scar tissue formation) and regeneration (re-growing the original tissue).
Some things will never be the same again, and some can work just the same again, depending on the specifics. A scar on the skin can be eventually stretched out so as to not inhibit movement of the tissues near it, but internal scarring (in the lungs) is so much harder to deal with.

Thanks for bringing this up. In the myalgic encephalomyeltis medical community, they have already started research into investigating the possible conversion of covid into long-term ME (aka chronic fatigue syndrome) due to over 80% of patients having a post-viral onset of symptoms. The neurological damages to the central nervous systems are part of the diagnosis criteria. For example in a study on MERS, they once found 50% of them developing ME. We hope not of course, ME is a terrible disease but we wouldn't be surprised if many develop covid-triggered ME.

I hope that helps both conditions as more attention is brought to ME/Chronic Fatigue Disorder. I've planned on going in for a diagnosis but when i first talked to a doctor about it roughly 10 years ago he said I shouldn't bother since I was a moderate case (as opposed to a severe case) they didnt have any medication for available for me and the only treatment I was likely to get prescribed would just be physical therapy which I do anyways (and helps a bit but not alot).
