People talk about how the reason Fabi was a member of the 2800 club was because he was always very prepared. The fact that he beat Hikaru in that very tricky game, and Alireza in a game Alireza himself prepared shows you how much of a beast you have to be to get that far ahead in rating.

Interestingly though in both cases it was him just completely outplaying his opponent in the middle game. Feels like Alireza has been playing too aggressive, playing too many weird moves to try to confuse his opponents but they end up defending perfectly against him and put him in a bad position. To be fair, it's this aggression that the old players like Nepo is missing, which makes Magnus hesitant to want to face them again. But Alireza does not seem to have the skill to justify his aggression just yet.

That’s exactly what Fabi did with the seemingly illogical f5! tallowing white to slip out of the skewer by offer a Queen trade, which rescues the rook no matter what Firouzja replies. Fabi’s counterattack is equally sublime. Bravo!
