Fun fact about Heathcliff digging up Cathy's dead body! My book has a footnote explaining that since they were buried in peat moores, the peat basically embalms whoever is buried there. So Cathy's body would have looked relatively similar to the day she died, even 18 years later.
Apparently in chapter three Lookwood describes a chapel that is "near a swamp, whose peaty moisture is said to answer all the purposes of embalming on the few corpses deposited there."
I bet in life Cathy and Heathcliff planned to be buried there and haunt the moores together, while their bodies decomposed. But Edgar kind of messes that up by also being buried there. Respect.
