The rise in AI tech means there is more chance of demand of AI/ML engineers in the future. Companies will need folks to write wrappers on their AI models. So why would you want to switch from an in-demand branch?

1.Not every IITan is a genius or very hardworking. There are several students who just get in with a little hardwork due to their caste / family income / disability .
      2. More than 90 percent of these students believe in orthodox career pathways. That's the reason they chose IIT in the first place.
Ek baar IIT me chala jau fir zindagi set h is what these students think. They want assurance and want to play safe that's why they go for the IIT / NIT tag.
      3. More than 50 percent of these students don't even like their branch or syllabus let alone love it. This is my personal opinion but I think they should merge all the branches and introduce just two new branches ; core and non core and they should only seperate them in MTech
      4. A lot of these students come from middle class general families. There is a lot of disparity between the fees paid by the students. Like the total fees for SC / ST students is just 1.5-2 lakh rupees but for general students, it's 9-10 lakh rupees. These general middle class category students always have the burden of social pressure on their shoulders. Kisi ke papa retire hone wale h, kisi ke chote bhai behen h, kisi ke ghar ki halat thik nahi h lekin itni kharab bhi nahi h ki scholarship mil jaye, ab aise bache paise kaise arrange krenge business ke liye?

      Well, we can.
Most of the students aim for the best college and branch they can get at their rank.
In general, SC / ST students are the least intelligent students in their batch.
Everyone will agree that AIR 1000 is more intelligent / hardworking than AIR 3000 .
Now, if this 3000 guy gets into a batch full of 1000-1200 general guys just because he had reservations, he might be the worst performer in the batch.
Most of the SC / ST candidates get into a college and branch that a general candidate would have never gotten into if he had the same CRL rank.

The question is, how were there 8000 students? The main problem is that the media is NOT takllkimg about it with one family. 2 children, would we have been in this situation today? Basically, media has to bring out these points also on how many jkns are really there what is the industry that is going to.support jobs for these people. Where can they be placed? Media never talks about this, and so instead of helping you are creating discord in society.

Is this not due to reservations based admissions? In the days where employers fought one another to hire IIT/IIM graduates, the admission was merit based. Bring back merit and the problem will be solved. Today, 39% pass-marks types get in based on reservations.

It may not be true as most of these IIT graduates want to work for the US/West European multinationals and they think that taking up jobs in Indians companies are below their standards. The media hype for IITs created a sort of false ego in many of them. Except students passing out in CS/IT discipline, the other engineering graduates should look to work in core sectors of their competency instead of looking for banking/consultancy/marketing opportunities abroad. India has so many unresolved issues and these graduates should think innovatively from an Indian perspective. Our VCs should fund the entrepreneurs / start up who work for resolving India centric issues. Not only will they be employed, they will create jobs for others and at the same time comprehensively address the problems being faced in this country.

Do NOT just look for jobs. You should also CREATE jobs. If you can CREATE YOUR OWN JOB -- then you do NOT need to seek employment under someone else. Even a GOAT FARMER (ex: who raises 1000+ goats) can be WEALTHIER than managers or workers in companies.

Companies are businessses and are driven by cost benefit analysis, and it's also understandable people are a tad bit jealous of folks who've made it into elite institutes like IIT. But if you look at it from the POV of the students who've toiled away to excel at any chosen field it does seem unfair as they were told if they were disciplined worked hard and applied themselves they could have a life few in a developing country like ours could have. Looking at it holistically it is the responsibility of the adminstrators to ensure these brilliant minds learn skills that are best applied to benefit society. So, if AI, ML etc are the need of the hour they should update the curriculum...so that we have a win win situation wherein we get ahead of the curve as a country and these brilliant minds are also rewarded for their efforts. But to despair as IIT students or rejoice in the fall of the hardworking brilliant minds is just a sad state for all of us.

@Zaphaare sir , non IIT institutions are meant to produce certified engineers in India in their respective engineering specializations. IIT institutions are meant to produce top class engineers way more skilled than certified engineers
in their respective engineering specializations and many white collar software jobs in India dont need an IIT level mind to work. Agreed certain folks will be jealous of IIT brilliant minds , but if IIT folks can tackle and solve technical engineering problems in the industry, they can even become a successful business magnet right
