I’m learning CW, and I’m really shy about doing actual QSOs. It was nice to hear you say not to worry about being sloppy. I’m an old lady, so I think it will be awhile before I’m really proficient. It gets harder to learn new things as we age, IMHO.

      Hi Kelly, I’m Julia.
Try not to worry about it.
The main thing is to get on the air.
You will be very surprised at just how fast you will improve by jumping in.😀
Hope to hear you on the air!
      72 and 73 de N1XV 😀👍

What she said. I just learned and on my first few QSOs I’d wait for a lull and the OP had called CQ a couple times. Look for OPs on bands other than 20 and 40 too.

Having being doing CW for a long time, I still make all sorts of CW mistakes and errors, and no one seems to care. CW ops are amazingly good at figuring out what you "really mean." Give it a try, go whatever speed you like, and enjoy !

I'm retired and started learning CW six months ago.... All CW ops started at the same place. I've found all my encounters to be very helpful. If you sound new, they will slow down for us... The Long Island CW club has helped me get on the Air, and it has been a lot of fun. My call at Yahoo if you want to make a QSO with no pressure, let me know. DE W4EMB.

Love to hear your thoughts about the chelegance 750 in comparison to your other verticals that you use. I have the Elecraft but they require an atu. A portable vertical at 40, 20, 18, 10 .... that needs no atu is appealing.

10 meters is a very quiet band, even in town, at least for me. cheers, 72/73 de AI5DD

I appreciate the encouragement for us new CW senders! Making contacts on 40 meters recently some I have absolutely botched but we got eachother call signs! Lol super fun hobby!

Last Friday went out to state beach 10 contacts on 10 then went to 12,15, and 17 total of 35 contacts. Plan is to activate without going to 20 meters. Will be out again this afternoon 72

when the bands are suspiciously quiet, you can always check in on the ncdxf beacons.

I only seem to get sloppy with CW in POTA QSO’s with K4SWL…and on video for all to see lol

A nanoVNA, or a small antenna analyzer like Rig Expert would help a lot with your antenna tuning in this scenario. Good video in any case Thomas! I did my first CW activation the other day, it was fun. --n1bs

It's great that you're spending some quality time evaluating the G-106. I just wish Xiegu would do a better job getting their products ready for prime time before releasing them.

I’m so pleased to see Evan go POTA recently and with your videos, I can’t wait to get out there and start making CW contacts! Thanks again Thomas…
