This seems to be a very old type of construction. Most British caravans are built to a much high spec. Fully bonded sides and roof and floor. The last time I had a caravan with the sides built with a wooden frame was back in the 1970's. My last Caravan was fully bonded sides and are much lighter and stronger.

Unfortunately none of you negative commenter’s have any building experience or common sense. Steel is very heavy. Most vans on the road are only just compliant with legislation for towing capacities. A lot of vehicle can’t tow vans now because they are too heavy. Aluminium is weak and oxidizers with sweat when you screw sheeting straight to it.
Because Sandy, Most Australian caravan builders haven't realised that we're now in the 21st century. They're one group of manufacturers who don't build to AS9001. Timber, a bit of broken styrofoam here and there (they call that insulation!) and someone's old garden shed for the side walls. Oh, and did I mention overpriced?
@@coover65 Well, if you've actually used it, you'll know that pursuit of ISO9001 becomes an end in itself and is no guarantee of a quality product. I've seen it many times in many industries. It becomes a distraction and a drain on resources; particularly for smaller companies.
I'm a true-blue dinky di patriotic Aussie looking to buy a caravan. Seen heaps of Australian made caravans, and European caravans. Ben, are you saying that plane wings are made of wood??? There's a website from an Australian caravan repairer who shows a lot (an I mean A LOT) of Australian built vans (including the big names in Australian caravan manufacturers) that have extensive wood rot set in before they're even 5 years old. How are "Australian conditions" any different to roads, weather and humidity in say Spain, Greece, or Serbia (where there are crap roads). How many Aussie caravans are built to AS9001?
Got to be fair ,I own a 2010 ,concept caravan and it looks pretty week the way thay building it , but mine hasn't had any major issues, and has been in gale forse winds and handled it ,and rain etc I have looked after it as in wood preservative underneath and fishaline on the chassis etc
To be fair to the Aussies. They don’t need to build them like we do in UK. Their climate is amazing. Why would they over engineer & increase productivity costs. It simply isn’t needed over there. No rain no rot. Simples.
Couldn't agree more. To give the caravan a nice look the roof lining overhang is trimmed off and a nice corner edge is applied. You now rely 100% on silicone or caulking to protect your investment under this corner. That overhang could have been bent over the wall to flash the van so no water ever got in from the roof. What a joke.
It look 100s better constructed than the carvans I have been looking to buy in the UK, I was surprised when I got under them, no full metal chassis like the flat bed they started with in this video just I much less substantial frame that connects the wheels and tow bar some out riggers as towards the corners, much less substantial i europe ( I'm in UK )
You live in a country were humidity is very high and timber is still they main building material even in cyclone rated areas. It gives versatility if you want to add extra windows or electrical later on down the track. You should think before you rudely comment on something you have no idea about.
My 27 year old Australian made motor home has a metal plate and flooring sits on top of it. No water ingress at all. There is nothing to protect from water in this construction.

3/4 inch ridged insulation on the sides, maybe 2 inches on top, none elsewhere - lots of gaps, side skins installed top down instead of bottom up (potential for lots of leaks). Its simply a decorative trim piece, which will do absolutely nothing to keep water from entering behind the wall panels and roof fabric...
