You got the "Weiya" entirely wrong. The whole thing is from Fujian custom (Hokien, from which Taiwan culture is based on). All business people should worship the local deity (Tudigong) twice a month, on the 2nd and 16th of lunar calendar month. This call "Zuo (do) Ya". And "Ya" in Hokien dialect means ritual. The one in January 2 (very first one) is called "Tou (head, first) Ya" and the one on December 16 (last one) is called "Wei (tail, end) Ya", whereas the boss makes it into a banquet after the ritual to thank all employees for their one year's effort.

  • @marskino0811
    @marskino0811 6 лет назад +2

    「牙」是民間祭拜土地公的儀式。
    臺灣傳統習俗中,作生意的人在農曆每月初二及十六日,都必須準備一些牲畜、水果、香枝、紙錢等、祭拜地基主(土地最早的主人)以及土地公。
    而祭拜後的菜肴可以給家人或員工打打牙祭,因此也稱為「作牙」;
    一年之初,農曆的二月二日是頭牙,
    一年之尾,十二月十六日則是尾牙。
    「作牙」的起源是古早時期,無法開墾的荒地遍布,
    一發現肥沃土地時,常會相爭開拓,互相鬥毆甚至廝殺,搶地盤。
    為了分辨不同部落族群的方式就是畫旗幟,
    而通常都是在旗幟上畫上獸牙之形狀,或者牛角羊角之類的。
    不同部落族群之間的關係通常都不好,
    但每個部落因為位置的不同,出產的物品也都會有差異,
    部落間為了得到這些所需之物,除了靠打仗之外,
    就是要靠中間人每個月去做買賣。
    古代買賣介紹人,往往被稱為「牙郎」或「牙儈」、「牽鉤仔」
    這些介紹人通常都會在祭拜土地公的日子出現,
    於是,因為每個月受惠於這些牙郎,而且在祭拜過後有很多祭品,
    就乾脆請這些牙郎來作客,吃喝酬謝一番,這也是做牙的由來。

You guys are having so much fun!!
尾牙 is a very unique culture in Taiwan. Especially for a small or medium company. Cuz after all the entire year full of busy working everyday, this is the day when people all get together and having a great dinner or lunch.
But if you are working in a big company, chances are that you will have a weiya with your colleagues in the same department. Of course, things always have exceptions. Some big companies, like Foxconn, will held their weiya in a stadium. And, as you can imagine, the prizes could be very valuable.

lifeintaiwan haha anything for the shot. Have to say the more films I make the more I realize how the littlest thing in the viewers perspective can take a lot of pre-production. By the way very very informative about the banquet situation here in Taiwan. Well done

Great to learn the meaning of Weiya, I thought wei is "end of year" and ya meaning "food". I think weiya is the best moment for employees to have fun and for the owner of business to show gratitudes to staff after their whole year hard work. The type of Weiya varies nowadays, normally banquet with prize draw and stage show, but some big companies can hold special events such as carnival or concert, and invite celebrities, signers, or even super stars to host the event. For sure, the best prize is cash or shares as people sometimes get the gift they don't really need! I'm curious for what you won, pls show us :-)

If the boss doesn't want to fired any employees
He will point the chicken head in himself which mean everyone are good and safe
    有錯請指正

    有些公司行號在接近尾牙時,會發信給廠商,感謝他們今年的協力支持,並詢問有沒有要提供尾牙贊助。而尾牙抽獎禮品就是抽這些廠商贊助品 。有些生活用品廠商會用本身生產/代理的產品送給客戶當尾牙抽獎。
    獎品最常見的就是一般日用小家電,例如吹風機、果汁機、電鍋、咖啡機等等,只要包裝大小可以雙手捧起,都有可能拿來抽XD

Tail means the end of the year.
Teeth means you need teeth to eat in a banquet.
So, WEIYA means banquet at the end of the year.

It is the fact that the song you played in 2:30 is actually a song to celebrate the victory of WW2, the reason why it became a song to celebrate Chinese New Year is that the words fit the situation of Chinese New Year.
