I’ve had my X360 for about 4 1/2 years and it’s been flawless. I’ll likely keep it for as long as it lasts. It seems run as smoothly and as fast now as when I bought it. I rarely use the tablet mode with one exception. It’s perfect for resting it in your lap and rocking back in your favorite recliner.
I think David's reviews are very good. Different from other reviewers, he actually uses them on daily basis for few days and comments on pros and cons. He is by far the most helpful reviewer on youtube
You missed the pen support that this laptop has which is one of the big reasons that tablet mode is so good. Provided the fact that you use the latest Dell pen then you practically have a really good hybrid that has pen support
+RandomChannelIWasForcedToMakeByGoogle It doesnt but I have used it for a month now and its only slightly less precise than my old sp3. Threshold 2 perfectly fixes this too, the latency is reduced and missed clicks are almost non-existent. I applied a matte screen protector and it sounds and feels like I am writing on paper now :P Sidenote I have used both the Skylake and Broadwell models and the Skylake one definitely feels better.
+haXona How does the skylake and the broadwell models differ? I can get the broadwell version for $200 less but it's refurbished and I'm looking for a really long battery life.
I get around 1-2(total around 10) hours more than the Broadwell model with 25% brightness and balanced when using onenote. So its really up to you there. Performance-wise the CPU is really close to the Skylake but the GPU definitely got some upgrades. Its up to you if it motivates the 200$ cheaper price-tag, hope it helped a bit :) Keep in mind that if you are going to use the pen support then the Skylake models definitely fear better than the broadwell models(probably updated FW on the digitizer)
I like how your videos differ from other youtubers, u're sincere, honest, gives really professional and unbiased opinion, and most important of all u do know your stuff unlike some (a lot in fact)other youtubers who just read out from the spec sheets. Subscribed, keep it up!
If they cut the tablet/touchscreen/rotating hinge cost, god this laptop will be purchased by millions. The functionality is there for basic laptop needs, but I am pretty sure in the world today, people would prefer touch screens on tablets like samsung/apple. At Singapore here, the total cost for it is about $2399 retail. Holy moly. If those options I mentioned were removed, I would easily its good laptop under $2k.
I stumbled onto your videos the other day and can honestly say you are one of the best tech reviewers on RUclips. You have a professional tone and presentation with a down to earth personality also nice choice of background music. definite sub from me, keep up the good work!
Idk what it is about this channel. I can't get myself to like you dave since your polish and sophistication kindda gives me a snobby vibe but it's that same polish and sophistication that makes your videos so fluid and mesmerizing
I'm more eager to see your vids than mkbhd :D , mainly it has the contents I wanted. Yesterday I was like "Dave, dude it's been 1 week, where is your vid???". Couldn't be happier when I woke up to see this video :).
been watching this review for many times, till I get the spectre with the same specs. Still, I rewatch this. Really enjoyable videos, please make more!
I've had this model in skylake version for 2 months now ($750 on Amazon) and it's a gem. I use it a lot for photoshop work, youtube viewing, and web development using command line, sublime, etc. It performs exactly as I'd hoped. The only thing is that when it's plugged in it overheats, and sometimes too much video viewing makes the fan kick in and it gets very hot. But my model is refurbished maybe that's why although that's a really minor complaint. The 360 capability has been a revelation to me, Never had a touch screen or 2-in-1 before and I'm NEVER GOING BACK. I use the touch screen all the time even in laptop mode, and I often use various tent modes when watching videos on a flight or in the car. When I wanna watch some videos during longer bathroom trips ;) I hold it like a tablet. It's also my first SSD and never going back. It powers on faster than my desktop PC wakes from sleep. Programs start up extremely fast as well. This thing is pure class.
I feel similarly. I could survive without a 2 in 1/360 capability, but I will probably never again buy a laptop without touch, and i will never buy anything without an ssd. And not to mention--she is so, so sexy. People are wowed by how thin my laptop is and how well it performs despite being stuck on integrated graphics.
this is an old comment but have you had any problems with it since? I've seen multiple complaints about the heat being pretty bad but is it really that terrible? thanks.
No still have it and my opinion hasn't changed. The heat gets bad while plugged in, and if I have it on a blanket in bed while watching a movie it heats up pretty bad, but my girlfriend's macbook pro does the same.
Wow! The quality of your videos is right up there with people like MKBHD, TLD etc. Just keep up the good work and i am sure that some day you will also reach the skies.
2024. Upgraded to 512GB SSD and force installed Win 11. A free device salvaged from e-waste to tinker on but I can't see myself giving it up any time soon. A fun project that revealed a legacy beast sleeper device.
Thanks for the great review, love the visual graphics you used in the video. Helped me in my decision to get the laptop in June last year, albeit i probably should have waited a few months when the newer one hit the shelf. LOL
Great review, Dave! Liked and subbed. As for the machine itself, I like the overall look and feel, I much prefer this look over the gold trim version of the Spectre, but again - the points you made about other aspects of the machine were good to watch. Thanks!
I totally like your review of this 2 in 1 laptop. I returned this laptop after using it for a couple of weeks, because as you mentioned it is not comfortable to use in table/tent modes.
+Saad Zafar it's not a thunderbolt logo. it's a charge symbol meaning that port will receive power always. So you can charge a device like a phone using that port even if the laptop is off/asleep.
That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification. I initially thought it was a Thunderbolt Combo after reading this: techcrunch.com/2011/05/17/sony-bringing-thunderbolt-to-notebooks-with-usb-style-connector/
I've had one of these for a long time with an i7 and ssd, and it plays games on the integrated graphics that would blow your mind. It runs Dolphin like a champ, it plays Skyrim on lower specs, it plays tons of steam games. It's amazing what it can do if you have an external cooling fan. That being said, I really bought it to read ebooks (mainly textbooks for college). It's kinda heavy and bulky for that, but if you don't have a kindle or don't have your kindle with you it's a good option as it will save you the price of a tablet.
You should re-review the HP spectre x360 13". They redesigned the Kaby Lake version, it's thinner (something you dinged it for in the review). It also includes 2x Thunderbolt ports, which you talked about as a plus in another review. The high end model comes with an 512GB NVMe SSD and 16GB of memory and can be bought for $1149 (search for w023dx)
bought mine a few days ago. Every thing is good especially the case (mine is the special edition brown/copper). The battery life is about 6 hours per charge rather than 12.5 hours as mentioned on the website. this could be due to gaming though. the fan is almost silent and does not kick in normally. It is a very nice laptop and so far the best in terms of built quality.
Really nice review, nice shots, informative and clean, you are getting better and better :) Also, I like this fully rotating hinge, it is very useful for watching videos while lying in bed.
Jasterrrr thanks! It's super cool that it can rotate but even when watching media in bed, the experience feels just like a notebook to me. Really great device all round though.
Great review. very useful. I viewed the review after I got the laptop as a Birthday present, but I have no complaints. Felt reassured that my family made a good decision.
I think you missed the point of the hinge. I bought the Yoga 900 which uses the same mechanism. I upgraded from the original surface pro which i used propped up as a tablet (having upgraded to that from an iPad) 90% of the time. This device will be great in tablet mode for those of us who use it and it can quickly transform into a laptop when needed. Its the best compromise between a tablet and laptop i have seen
Thanks for the great review, I didn't know Microsoft helped HP with the hardware, it definately is better as a laptop than a Surface Pro 3, and this probably has the best trackpad in the industry.
Please do one on the recent Spectre laptop (the one claimed to be the thinnest laptop). I kinda dig the design, but I need to know what is its downsides for having such a thin design.
He just did! It's the thinnest laptop right now. Problems: SHITTIEST BATTERY LIFE EVER, Throttling, Good: Design Performance (basic stuff/games) Display (its REALLY good) Keyboard/Trackpad (Dave really gave it some love) I was gonna get it, then Dave said 5 hours (battery life), and I left the idea immediately
Really nice video. You know, I'm actually not interested in buying any notebook (since I bought mine 6 month just ago) but I really like to watch your videos, so I just have to push that play button :) Have a nice day.
Just bought my Spectre today and my toggle switch does not stay lit :) But keep in mind that I am from Canada and it is the 2017 model so a bit different. The touch screen is just so useful even if it's only for just scrolling up and down. I don't think I can ever go back. If you currently don't have the money to buy this one then go for HP Pavilion x360. That's essentially the same as this one with a few changes. Both are 2 in 1. But make sure to buy one of the i5 and ssd versions.
I bought this beauty and your review helped me a lot to do so. If I could make a request, I would love to see a guide how to game on machines like these. You always say that you love to game and use mainly laptops. But for me its totally new. Its my first laptop and I normally use consoles for gaming. Maybe you could do a video on how to configure a laptop for gaming. I know the spectre isnt a gaming machine, but I think with some useful tips I could play more than windows games. Anyway, love your reviews, keep up the good work.
I had this laptop from August 2015 to September 2020 (just a few days ago). Mine was the 1440p version. I DESPISED it. Don't get me wrong, the keyboard was nice, and the screen was fantastic. And as an art student at the time, pen support was also a bonus. But that's where the pluses end for me. - Right out of the box the sound turned out to be garbage. Whether through headphones or speakers, everything sounded like nails scratching a blackboard, prompting me to buy an external sound card later. - The trackpad had a delay, even after updating drivers, and so I used a mouse most of the time. - The CPU ran HOT. So much that I was unable to do anything without the laptop turning into a stove and shutting itself down from the heat. This was only fixed once I got myself a cooling pad. - And the worst of all: the WiFi antenna. Oh dear god, the WiFi antenna. It kept resetting itself, making me lose connection at least twice per hour. If I try to update it, it would disable itself and refuse to be reactivated until I factory reset the entire laptop. And I know I'm not alone with this. I got this laptop from my friend's father who was working at HP at the time. He got the same laptop for my friend (also in August 2015), and his keyboard behaved like my WiFi antenna did. I got an Asus now, and, I love it. I am SO HAPPY to have gotten rid of that infernal HP machine, and I wouldn't wish that horrible computer on anyone. Good riddance.
Is the screen big enough to work on two Word documents side by side? I went to Best Buy today to take a look at it and the screen seemed rather small...
Do you ever feel like you activate the trackpad while typing? It happend all the time at this laptop we had in school and I'm worried it can happend with such a big trackpad?
My mom has this notebook and I felt the exact same issue with the "tablet mode" It is very uncomfortable to use like that, but as a regular laptop, this thing is freaking beautiful.
That music man, i love tribe called mess. but where can i find it? i searched google, soundcloud, and youtube. and nothing comes up, its like FILI does not exist.
Any backlight bleeding? I ordered two skylake models and both of them have bleeding. Not sure if I should keep them. It isn't crazy bleeding, but noticeable on a black wallpaper.
You didn't mention whether the keyboard backlight is good or not ?

9 am here in europe!!! keep it on Dave great video. I had an HP notebook a few years back that it ran so hot that the weldings melted. Since then I banned myself two brands for notebooks: AMD and HP. This unit seem sleek though.
Anthony B Thanks! I find tent/stand mode cool to play with but it doesn't take up a smaller footprint than notebook mode so I felt like I was just putting it into tent mode (when reading news) just because it could, and not because it really made the experience any better. I do like the hinge tech though and I have high hopes for next years version of this guy,
I like your reviews and your judgement. If you had to choose a 2 in 1, which would you go for based on your experiences. I'm tossing up between the Spectre and the Yoga 3 Pro. I'm also interested in your thoughts on QHD on a 13" screen...is it a waste of money? Thanks for the reviews.
edwin22 ah i see. I wish they'd designed the casing to fold up a little better in tablet mode. Do you use the dig-pen for note taking? I didn't have the HP pen and the surface pens dont' work =( Dunno why it's so hard to find one for sale in Canada. I'd probably just type with it on my lap/table for school. I love that keyboard. Glad you like it though!
I bought the hp pen and the Dell pen. Dell pen works better and I mostly use it for math note taking. Other than that I take notes on word in laptop mode. Then study them in tablet mode before a test!
Dave Lee: If not wanting to purchase this particular "hinged" tablet for the exact same reasons as you mentioned in your video (not worth the $$$ for something that I have little to no interest in), what would you then recommend for anyone still interested in purchasing a higher end HP laptop/tablet/notebook etc.?
Would you be able to do your verdict on the late 2016 version? I am a college student looking for a new computer and I'm stuck between the new version of this and the xps 13. I am curious on your verdict!

+haXona Even then I doubt it will rival a Surface pro 4

I'm not really interested in the product nor do I usually comment but I just wanted to say that your reviews are absolutely fantastic!
+Nate Kerber thanks for the support! =)
+Very Good Boy You look like an old soviet genetic experiment on humans that failed horribly.
Can you do an updated review on the 2017 model.
Man.
The introductive clip with the on-chassis printed HP logotype sliding to the left is simply AMAZING and creative.
You're a damn pro!
***** Thanks! Glad you liked it. Still wasn't perfectly happy with that shot. Gotta keep doing more =)
This video literally was teh deciding factor in my laptop choice - thank you.
best looking laptop since the zenbook infinity.
bob james Na the HP Sleebook's look really good with their brushed aluminum.
They don't look bad mate but you can't say they're on the same level as the spectre and don't even come close to the zenbook.
bob james Ehhh I do't know I owned one myself and it was the sleekest laptop I ever owned..it's just my taste I guess.
Oh and look at the "I owned one" statement. I actually short circuited the poor thing. :(
bob james and every macbook
Honestly, this is the best laptop I've ever owned. If I can make any recommendation for a laptop, I'd say just get this one.
Hey bro doesn't have a fingerprint
And can it holds 1t
Also it's good for student
Will it be good for a student?
hi..is hp spectre x360 is also good for school and games?
Newer? Like what? It's very expensive if I buy the newest product..
Can anyone tell me which is a good laptop? For school and game? :)
I love the quaility of your video, sound, filming, all that. Keep it up.

Your thorough and concise reviews are very well edited and presented. Nice job on these man. Keep up the great work.

I just love your reviews Dave! Can you do more full fledged unboxings?
been watching this review for many times, till I get the spectre with the same specs.
Microsoft surfacebook is pretty beefy. The old Spectre is pretty good if you make sure you're getting quality components.
this is an old comment but have you had any problems with it since? I've seen multiple complaints about the heat being pretty bad but is it really that terrible? thanks.
No still have it and my opinion hasn't changed. The heat gets bad while plugged in, and if I have it on a blanket in bed while watching a movie it heats up pretty bad, but my girlfriend's macbook pro does the same.
Wow! The quality of your videos is right up there with people like MKBHD, TLD etc. Just keep up the good work and i am sure that some day you will also reach the skies.
Microsoft is soo good at designing laptops and desktops.. I wonder what happened in their phone deparrtment
2024. Upgraded to 512GB SSD and force installed Win 11. A free device salvaged from e-waste to tinker on but I can't see myself giving it up any time soon. A fun project that revealed a legacy beast sleeper device.
Thank you very much for this review! I was really excited to see this in my subscription box. Very detailed and informative!
Thanks for the great review, love the visual graphics you used in the video.
Helped me in my decision to get the laptop in June last year, albeit i probably should have waited a few months when the newer one hit the shelf. LOL
Thanks very useful ! I am really amazed with the details that you provided on temp & sound. Great Job !
Great review, Dave! Liked and subbed. As for the machine itself, I like the overall look and feel, I much prefer this look over the gold trim version of the Spectre, but again - the points you made about other aspects of the machine were good to watch. Thanks!
How do you make the fonts appear to be floating at 5:43 ?
Outstanding review...very informative and unbiased.
Never stop making your videos! Amazing quality :)
You will grow big one day
I totally like your review of this 2 in 1 laptop. I returned this laptop after using it for a couple of weeks, because as you mentioned it is not comfortable to use in table/tent modes.
Any insight on the USB 3.0 + Thunderbolt Logo HP uses here (2:31)? I've never seen that on anything but HP. Doesn't seem to make sense to me...
+Saad Zafar it's not a thunderbolt logo. it's a charge symbol meaning that port will receive power always. So you can charge a device like a phone using that port even if the laptop is off/asleep.

thanks for the review we need some reviewer like you
sir can you review the skylake model? i hear a lot of good stuff on the comment

Dave Lee I Love your content!! BEST CHANNEL ON RUclips
dude bro, the groove at the top of the screen when closed is where the wifi antennae is located. it's not just a "design accent".
I don't know why but when you mentioned the size of the track pad and said, "It's like iPhone 6 big" and placed your iPhone down I started laughing
I think you missed the point of the hinge. I bought the Yoga 900 which uses the same mechanism. Another great review! Plus, I really like your watch!
Fish Kungfu Double Thanks!
i believe you're gonna as big as marques
good luck
Please do one on the recent Spectre laptop (the one claimed to be the thinnest laptop). I kinda dig the design, but I need to know what is its downsides for having such a thin design.
He just did! It's the thinnest laptop right now.
Problems: SHITTIEST BATTERY LIFE EVER,
Throttling,
Good: Design
Performance (basic stuff/games)
Display (its REALLY good)
Keyboard/Trackpad (Dave really gave it some love)
I was gonna get it, then Dave said 5 hours (battery life), and I left the idea immediately
Love the way the SD card fits in. Easy to expand storage, which my Mac can't do
I absolutely fucking hate these hybrids between laptop and tablet its so cumbersome I have no idea why would anyone want to have such device
Great review! I have been waiting for this :)
Really nice video.
You know, I'm actually not interested in buying any notebook (since I bought mine 6 month just ago) but I really like to watch your videos, so I just have to push that play button :)
Have a nice day.
Alessio la Penna Thanks Alessio!
I'm in Love With That Device !!!!
Just bought my Spectre today and my toggle switch does not stay lit :)
But keep in mind that I am from Canada and it is the 2017 model so a bit different.

Has there been talk about the camera on the laptop? the specs don't say much and the video was quite brief about it.
The hybrid mode is useful when you travel. You can use your laptop even if someone reclines their seat. I
The back of the notebook looks very nice with that curve design
Renaldo015 Yup. It's definitely one of the nicer designs for notebooks.

Is the screen big enough to work on two Word documents side by side? I went to Best Buy today to take a look at it and the screen seemed rather small...
Dave can you update this review for latest Spectre with i7 Kaby Lake processor. Thanks.
great review man. got all i need. keep it up bruh
Do you ever feel like you activate the trackpad while typing? It happend all the time at this laptop we had in school and I'm worried it can happend with such a big trackpad?
Commenting on this video while using this laptop. All i can say is that 4 years ago this was an ultrabook!? times have changed.
Why does the middle of the keyboard look like its bulging out? Is it just the camera angle? Might get this
this laptop is great. really like the multimedia mode
Thanks for review, really nice one.
Personally me really enjoyed this thermal comparision with MBP :)
build quality, good screen, good cpu, excellent product... i like it
Actually there is a small led near the charging plug that turns red when it is charging and white when the batteryis fully charged.
Since the sides are polished do they scuff easily? I just have this thought that after a few weeks this thing would be really scratched up.
Sooooooo .. Will I have a problem editing video on this thing? premier pro, 4k vids?
HELP!?!?!
indeed he cuts straight to the review and audio video is exellent
Any backlight bleeding? I ordered two skylake models and both of them have bleeding. Not sure if I should keep them. It isn't crazy bleeding, but noticeable on a black wallpaper.
Keep up the good work! Great review
these videos look so professional
You didn't mention whether the keyboard backlight is good or not ?
9 am here in europe!!! keep it on Dave great video. I had an HP notebook a few years back that it ran so hot that the weldings melted. Since then I banned myself two brands for notebooks: AMD and HP. This unit seem sleek though.
Miguel Ángel Toro L. oh man! Melting materials would be awful. Did they warranty that?
They did not. I was living in Colombia back then and warranty policies on third world countries are a joke.
damn dude. that sucks. =(
Love your vids man! Keep em coming!
I find tent mode useful for reading while doing homework and studying. Anyways, nice vid as always!
Why can't I find this on any website to purchase?
Dave Lee the tablet mode is not useful to you but to me it is the main reason why I bought it. I take all my notes on tablet mode.
edwin22 ah i see.
Then study them in tablet mode before a test!
nice. that sounds like a good workflow. I wish I had this kind of tech back in school!
This laptop or the Dell 13-Inch 2 in 1? They both look great, unsure as to which one's better though.
this is definitely better than the dell
Dave Lee: If not wanting to purchase this particular "hinged" tablet for the exact same reasons as you mentioned in your video (not worth the $$$ for something that I have little to no interest in), what would you then recommend for anyone still interested in purchasing a higher end HP laptop/tablet/notebook etc.?
Thanks very much just bought it and wanted to know more about it
Its aesthetically beautiful. Three or four years down the line, when they put a GPU in it, they will have a customer in me.
Would you be able to do your verdict on the late 2016 version? I am a college student looking for a new computer and I'm stuck between the new version of this and the xps 13. I am curious on your verdict!
where can i find the wallpaper on the spectre?
I guess you never travel on a plane or train and hence you don't find the different modes useful
Thank you for those really great reviews.
