It feels like it's heading that direction. Eddie is feeling it. After the shooting his feelings intensified for Buck. So suddenly the idea of Ana was no longer tolerable. He let it drag on too long. Used her actually, so this might turn Buck off a bit before they get together. Eddie will explain how hard his family is on being a real man etc so that's why he tried to force it. Buck will lighten up understanding what it's like to have parents that are never satisfied. He'll eventually learn it was him that Eddie was trying to stay away from but couldn't. His feelings are so strong he can't even fake it anymore even with Buck being in a relationship. B

I really think the whole "being a real man" thing is holding Eddie back a lot. He enlisted in the army because he felt like he needed to be the breadwinner, when what Shannon and Chris really needed was for him to stay with them. He doesn't know how to deal with his feelings in a healthy way: he went underground fighting in Season 3, he repressed his trauma from the shooting and his obvious discomfort with his relationship with Ana until he had a panic attack (and then insisted, "I don't panic" - because in his mind, that would be a show of weakness).
I've seen some commentators say it would be unrealistic for Buck and/or Eddie to come out as bisexual at this point because they're in a tolerant environment with openly gay people like Hen and Michael, so there was never any reason to be in the closet, but I think that's really oversimplifying the issue. It's one thing for Eddie to be completely LGBT-friendly *to other people*, it's another thing for him to be LGBT himself, and not so easy to accept.

Writers created this partnership between the two guys, they slowly making them a couple. I think the restaurant scene is a good place for Buck and Eddy to tell each other just how they feel about each other.
Dam it writers. Make it happen or you will lose lots of viewers if this don't happen, it's the only thing that will save your show with all the other tc shows.

Most likely wishful thinking on my part, but this is how I see it going down:
Eddie starts seeing Frank, the therapist, again to understand why he had the panic attacks and why he couldn't love Ana even though she was perfect for him on paper. That gradually makes him realize that he's already let someone, Buck, into his life as both his partner and Chris' second parent without realizing it, and he's been repressing his feelings because of his conservative family, being a manly firefighter, being worried that Chris would get picked on at school for having two dads, etc.
Eddie struggles with his feelings, and avoids Buck, for a while until he realizes he can't and the whole "I don't panic" macho thing is what caused his problems to begin with. In the midseason finale cliffhanger, he confesses to Buck that he's in love with him. Then in the second half of the season we start focusing more on Buck's POV and there's a bit of a Buck/Taylor/Eddie triangle, until Buck finally realizes that he reciprocates Eddie's feelings.
