Everytime I watch one of your videos 2 things happen to me: 1 - For some reason it reminds me of old youtube, the better days. 2 - I realize I know NOTHING about vim I've been too comfy with my vim knowledge, I need to start using new features, for ex the global command, I never use it. Also, my use of registers never goes beyond just yanking/pasting
Great video. You are really great at the craft. I agree everyone should get good at what tools they use. I like vim because it is so simply customizable. I don't have to know what the configuration file looks like and what keys are available. I can write a simple script if i need to add new functionality. Obviously, with great power comes the responsibility to not get lost configuring, but that just takes some self control.
Another great video. I learn something new from everything you post so thank you. Totally agree with your take on Vim and productivity. For me it is about ergonomics, continued learning and fun. There is always something new to learn with Vim whihc satisfies my curiosity.
I highly recommend using light themes with monochrome/duotone/colorless code highlighting. These colorscheme are using more typography to highlight instead color, which is more easy on eyes with light background. This is why I have left my fav dark Zenburn to Komau Light. I have changed also my terminal colorscheme according to this palette.
Not really. They are handy when the text you’re working with shares the same overall structure. There is not much to macros other than knowing how to start and stop them. The one tricky part is remembering to put your cursor in the correct spot at the end of the recording, so that when it’s replayed it starts in the right spot. Just play around with them and you’ll quickly get the hang of it.
I do find this argument more productive then just claiming that you can 'work at the speed of thought'. I have been using and learning neovim for a couple of years and I just enjoy using it more then anything else. It has features you can't find in other editors and that is what makes it appealing to me. I like the keyboard centricness and the geek factor. I do feel faster, but I chaulk that more to me enjoying my coding environment then anything else.
What programming language do you use? Everyone: Javascript --- denvaar: Yea, I use vim to write enterprise code. --- No, I mean what language do you use. --- denvaar: Did I stutter?
I really would appreciate it if you could publish it's current version. I tried to recreate it but sadly it just doesn't have the same feel to it. On a different note: I really do like your videos and channel. This is what RUclips is all about@@denvaar
one thing is that mouse selection really sucks in comparison to Emacs mark and keyboard movement, or all the Visual-mode and movement stuff in Vim. that kind of stuff makes me happy, don't hold my pinky hostage and if that makes me want to code more, and if that's more productive... well that's it. The rest "more productive" I would say: compared to what?

This is a level of mastery I want to strive for, even if I can't reach it. Awesome showcase!
That solution to day 21 is delightful. The time I spent solving it in Rust is embarrassing by contrast (in a good way).
u went hard on that bug
I just recently discovered your channel and i love it

This was... humbling
sometimes I use an axe to catch bugs too :)
great video, thanks for your input!
What is rhis nice light vim color theme called?
i think it's solarized but i could be wrong
This is a color scheme that I made for myself, I’d share it, but it’s too rough around the edges for now. Maybe someday 👍

Nah this is magic.
Wow, that axe example really drives the point across!
I don't know if I'm more productive with vim, but I'm less tired at coding definitely. More keyboard and less mouse, this is it.
100% agree, less hand movement makes my wrists happy
Subbed. You are good👍
Totally unrelated to the topic of the video, but the bianchi bike in the back is just classy
This is a fantastic video! Do you have any recommended resources on learning macros?

You physically resemble terry davis somehow

Hey man, could you share your theme's name?
It’s called, “rip_beige_keyboard” but it’s just one that I created. Maybe someday I will make it available.
I really would appreciate it if you could publish it's current version. I tried to recreate it but sadly it just doesn't have the same feel to it. On a different note: I really do like your videos and channel. This is what RUclips is all about@@denvaar
boss what keyboard are you using?
Looks like the Kinesis Advantage.
@@mwcz-u5z thank you!
