Amazing to think Alison was barely out of her teens when she wrote this. For all the electro club bangers and quirky synth pop, this is and has always been my favorite song on 'Upstairs at Eric's.'
NothingHereMoveOn me too I played it over and over this and Don’t Go were my faves!
yes, stunning song writing! AFAIK Alison was 19 when she wrote Winter Kills
Also my favorite. Since the day I heard it in my teens.
I've always loved it too!
What an amazing voice Alison has. Totally unique! I love her ❤😊
Me too! Her voice is fantastic! She's my favourite female singer about 1983! 😍❤
one of my favorite female voices ever....and still is...
Mine too.
Favortie Yazoo song.
I saw her on this tour in NYC and I needed her to sing this song to make the night complete, AND SHE DELIVERED....one of my faves
She has a distinctive beautiful voice not mainstream, more people need to know about her talent.
OH my god. Love love love love love love love love love love!!!!
Alison Moyet Still has such a powerful voice. Favorite song for sure.
Something about us Generation X
She is better now than she was then, bearing in mind that this was live. There was a lot more nuanced performance here.
I’m a little scared by this. It’s damn rare they get better like that. I’m In awe.
Agreed. I heard this on the Netflix bio flix "Halston". It's so beautiful.
Agree with y'all but Alison Moyet (1961) is a tail end "Boomer" 1946-64 as is Kate Bush (1958)😘
Fantastic performance. This song gives me chills
+Noodleydoo how winter kills chills :)
Alison still has that haunting outstanding voice - the 80's were the best ever better than todays boring world SYNTH HEAVEN!
70s and the 80s was tha shit! Even the late 60s. Love! ❤️💋🌼🌸🌺
One of my favourite songs - as always, brilliantly sung
So in LOVE with Alison's vocal since 1982~~~~~~~
Alison Moyet is perfection
This song resonates SO strongly with me, living in a land of long, cold harsh Winters (Canada)... It has done so since I first heard it as a teenager in 1982 on Upstairs At Eric's--one of my most favourite albums ever!
Ms. Moyet's voice is absolutely iconic!
I just today started writing a choral arrangement of this piece. I'm not likely to have anything spoken, like the original, but I am curious to know what she says in the middle...Perhaps it's meant to be incomprehensible, but a closer listen would probably deny that...Kudos to her and Vince Clark for composing such a brilliant song that is truly bearing the test of time!
cold harsch winter in canada lol... imagine what the hecking harsch winter we have here in mother russia. -30 in celsius is a norm
anyway good song AND you're the first in top comments who reminded vince. everyone's mad about alison, dave gahan, andy bell... but what about vince?
Alison looked so beautiful and sounded so majestic .. It has been a pleasure watching her career progress and see her become so confident in her gift..
Alison really looks incredible !
Still one of the most unique voices in music
Brilliant, this song really transcends time... she wrote it then, for this performance years later.
Always liked it.
What a song, performed by a remarkable artist. She is amazing,I'm an old bugger but her voice has only got better,if it ever could.Wish I could.
Beautiful alison listening in lockdown well done stay safe stay strong sending love from headway Nottingham UK xxxx
Wow. Omg. That's all I got.
The best voice I've ever heard.
+Tammy_who Yes, she is the best
Beautiful.
always loved her deep soulful voice & btw she's almost 54 here
If Beethoven knew how much his Moonlight Sonata still inspires composers centuries later!
This tune IS my all-time-fav.~
Such a beautiful track from Upstairs at Eric's. This album helped me in my teens when I was getting bullied at school and didn't know anything about the world. Amazing, thank you I have cheered up now and think I understand the world a little better.
My all time favourite blue ballad
She invented Goth Blues !!
shit. I was just listening to the original recorded version a second ago....on a whim I asked myself "is there a LIVE version of much older Alison, singing this?" . Then I typed that into the youtube search option, and the algorithm understood me. Delivered this: I'm astounded. Fucking sick! So good. Thank you for sharing. I want to share it on Facebook right now, but I promised myself no more drunk social media, lol. Here I am breaking my own rules again. Ty and have a good night. xo
What a song
Such a powerful performance...xxxxx
was für eine tolle Frau !
What a powerful voice!
I grew up with this music
Just an awesome, awesome singer, Love, love, love :D
Fun fact: despite being the keyboard player in yazoo, Vince couldn’t play the piano. So, on the original version it’s actually Alison ‘Alf’ Moyet playing the piano part.
This track was played to a documentary called In the Dead of Winter about the murder of a boy called Shaun Ouilette - loved the track as soon as I heard - did some diggin and found it. Alison Moyet as the best female voice ever and its strange, now she has lost weight to hear such a deep powerful voice come from a small woman, and fair play to her. Just brilliant
FANTASTIC WOMAN. Fantastic Singer/songwriter. Incidentally "Upstairs At Eric" is a direct reference to the Stusio they used, having to go upstairs into the studio that Eric owned at 5:00am in the morning. That was the only studio time they could get. Hence the album
"Upstairs At Erics"...... I before E except after C........
HANDS UP PLEASE anyone who has heard the original of WINTER KILLS and thinks the following thoughts....
ALISON MOYET IS BETTER NOW, VOCALLY SPEAKING, THAN SHE WAS ORIGINALLY, IN THE EIGHTIES....AND SHE COULD CERTAINLY HOLD A TUNE THEN!!!
The only singer I can think of who’s got better with age, she’s just something else ❤️
She was soo young when she was thrown into the music biz thresher, but she was so strong willed, she grew as an artist and her confidence shows. She sounds fantastic now.. Just as I believe Dave Gahan sounds better and more confident now in Depeche Mode he found his voice as well.
No disagree. Her pitch has matured. More vibrato compared to the original. This was not so pronounced on 'Eric's' Hence a more beautiful studio rendition, originally!
ruclips.net/video/s3TURYNCYvQ/видео.html As good now as she was then, maybe less raw now.
Thank you my Diva.
alison was in fantastic form here
Wow. The vocals are even better here than on the original.
Great video!

This song makes me think of 'Is This the End' by Pink Industry for some reason. Very dark. I love it.

Great version better than the album version.
Peace ✌️ out people
I agree.
A chanteuse.
I came here because of the Halston series
Incredibly dramatic song
Great audio on this track ! What gear have you been using for recording the sound ?
the rude bastard wont answer.
she's so slim, almost too slim, she has always been beautiful. i like her full figured or skinny. She's an emotional performer. You can see he pain in her face.
Does anyone know what she is whispering in the chorus?
I'd love to know this as well, especially as I just today started writing a choral arrangement of this piece...
I thought she'd lost her voice after getting so slim ..I was obviously mistaken.
***swoon***
I was a baby...only a club kid.

Greeeat, Alison has scarry voice
We do recall this is a song about AIDS.
AMAZING. ETERNAL.
🌜
How diff she looks she is beautiful I wouldn’t have recognized her and what a wonderful song writer this is hers not Vince’s!
Ja ja een echt te zangeres alison monet

Shit live.....
Very deep! Not like this shallow scheisse that these bimbos have been spewing out for the last 20 years.
