    I was a GS-13 for 13 years before I grew thoroughly exhausted of being an 1102 and finally took a leap of faith and applied for a GS-1101-14 in 2022. I was completely shocked at how much my salary increased due to the step increases they give you as part of the promotion. And then Biden’s salary increase in 2023 helped even more.

    I've been a GS-11 for 3 years. In 4 weeks I will receive a Masters degree in Data Analytics in which I paid out of pocket for. I have NEVER seen anyone that has received a promotion after receiving a higher education level. I still need to apply for a GS-12 and go thru the interview process with the rest of the individuals. The entire process is ridiculous.

    When I was in the process of applying for jobs to leave my previous job I was at, and before I started the one I am at currently that I started in January 2023, While I was applying for Jobs, I was working to switch from a WG-6 to the GS side. I was aiming for the GS-7 grade level, which after I had accepted the GS grade I am at now which is a GS-5, a week after I accepted the GS-5 I received a Tentative Job offer for a GS-7. However, the only reason I ended up declining the GS-7 grade that I was aiming to get and went to the GS-5 was due to the location the GS-7 job was in, cost of living was too expensive and i'd struggle to make it.

If you are looking for new content subjects, you may consider reinstatement, superior academic performance and vets disabled over 30%. Love your content man! Keep up the good work..

    I knew a retired E9 who took a GS-11. I was an E-5 who took a GS-7. I think it's mostly about location, and what opportunity you're given. I've met 20 year WG-6's who are just happy where they are.

    Thanks for the encouragement, this is timely. I took a a lower paying position in the state level to gain specialized experience in my profession. I almost did it again by applying for GS-9 federal positions even though I've interviewed for two GS-11/12 positions and was not chosen. When there are multiple GS levels such as G-9, 11, 12, I'm eligible for all but only referred for the 12 - I'm not sure why. I would gladly take the lower GS-9 or 11 for the federal experience and apply for higher GS-Levels. But maybe that's also why they don't hire high level GS-9's because they will likely transfer.

    What about those of us coming from sales and retail with no degree? Sure, I've got 15 years of experience, but that doesn't mean that experience qualifies me for positions that are actually hiring in my area at a higher GS grade. Sometimes just getting in as a GS5 and working your way up to a 7, 9, 11, and so on is a far superior option, no? I live in a rural area where the only jobs that exist are with either the VA or the IRS, and basically the only IRS position I'd qualify for is a GS5 IT specialist.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад

      The GS Grade you should target will be highly dependent on your job series and your location. If you are in a rural area and are not able to move then a lower GS grade might be your best option.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад

      There are 700 GS-14 and 300 GS-15 open jobs around San Francisco this morning. I believe it would be easier to get a GS-14 and then trying to negotiate your step level.

    Are you able to negotiate a step increase after you've accepted a TJO? I accepted a GS-11 at Step 1, submitted the e-QIP, currently in waiting mode, but thought I would reach out to the workforce manager to ask? Next question, do I ask the workforce manager or the HR specialist managing my onboarding, or both?

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. You can attempt to negotiate a step increase as soon as you hav accepted the TJO. You do this by emailing the HR Specialist, who extended the job offer, a memo explaining why you are a superiorly qualified candidate.

The longest ive stayed at a goverment job was 2 1/2 years my other jobs are 1 1/2 year i stayed. My question is what GS should i be applying for by my seires experience?
    Should i stay at my job longer so i wont look like im running form job to job?
    When interviewed i say i got a promotion at a differnet agency because their was no room to grow.

    I am looking into remote jobs as a Contract Specialist with an agency that has the Direct Hire authority. If i have 3 years of work experience not related to the job, a masters degree and a J.D., could i qualify for a GS-11 position? Also I finished law school on may so I dont know if the recent graduate program would help me.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад +2

      Searching for a remote 1102 Job that is 100% remote work with no relevant experience is unlikely.
      With 3 years of general work experience you could potentially qualify for GS-11s but probably in a different job series.
      Also, you should still be eligible for the recent student graduate program.

      @@armandcuret1 not sure about that. I was found qualified and referred for a GS-11, I do have an MBA + direct experience in contracting before from another govt (not federal but local) job that I was in for a number of years. I also have been a manager before in a non-federal, but still government position. Extremely high GPA, multiple certificates (though not for contracting specifically yet). References from former managers detailing experience.

      @armandcuret1  3 месяца назад

      The GS-7 medical office automation jobs I looked into do not mention an educational requirement. So, I would apply.

    • @armandcuret1
      @armandcuret1  Год назад +2

      If you are using education to qualify for a job then a 4-year college degree equals GS-5. If you have a 4-year college degree plus Superior Academic Achievement then you would be eligible for GS-7.
      Even if you have been out of school a while, you can still use it.
      Jobs that are GS-12 or above cannot use "education only" to qualify. Overall, I encourage most people to focus on their experience rather than their education to qualify for jobs.
