Andras Schiff is my favorite pianist. His interpretation is spot on. Every passage and modulation has a different color and texture. You can follow the melody develop easily with his playing style. It's never a soup of tones and melodies with Andras Schiff.
To a very high degree, yes, however the melodic line carrying sometimes gets in the way of expressing multi-motives integrated structure in voicing and harmony. Schiff is very pleasant to listen, even as background music, unlike Sokolov, whom will stop you from whatever you are doing and draw you into his multi dimensional treasure permeated music space.
Schiff's clarity feels cold, at times hard, aimed at and achieving technical brilliance; but for me, I desire a lover, clarity of touch with soulful presence, warm, exquisite tenderness - Brendel's Haydn.
I always find Brendel muffled and clumsier than most. It's like he chokes out the tone when he hits the keys sometimes. Maybe that's just his recording engineer that I don't agree with.
Another example in which Mozart doesn't have the market cornered as far as melancholy is concerned. Just listen to the coda of the variations in F minor to realize that Haydn could be ever bit of melancholy if not outright tragic.
yes, Schiff speelt het veel mooier dan Brendel maar, Anna Fusek speelt het fijnzinniger en diepzinnger, en al is het een technisch stuk hiermee wordt het eindeloos mooi.
Schiff has angels in his fingers
Haydn is the headmaster of classical music

what professional pianist uses a "soup of tones and melodies"?
Radieuse interprétation ! Merci Andras Schiff.
This piece reminds me of a songbird's trill.
That was exquisite and dramatic, almost ascetic and stern in places.
Judicious tempo allows us to hear and appreciate everything. A masterly performance of a great work.
bellissima interpretazione!

Lovely playing of Haydn

Would be great if the sound wasn't so much "fried".
the mother of sonata 23
Better than Brendel and Zacharias...:)
Oops, I mean Selina Sweet.
I'll have to agree with Selena. It was a bit cold and, and, might I add, too loud in places where it should have been played softer and more feeling.
