Why not making with the masking path right away, why the tracking camera thing?

Tracking camera and attaching the mask to it, makes the mask follow the camera. So if the camera pans, rotates or moves closer or further, you don't have to animate the mask manually as it automatically follows the camera.

The issue might be with the video codec. Try re-encoding in program like handbrake and then import in after effects.
