I love how Eric Robson is wearing a tie. Loved this documentary!

The film was made in 1985. I was certainly wearing a tie even when out on the fells in the early 70s. Eric Robson looks to be dressed up for the part. I like his breeches. I had a pair certainly in the 70s - don't know where they went. I'd be pleased to wear them today.

Watching this stirs my heart and soul. As a 'lass from Yorkshire,' I had the great good fortune to be born to a family who were avid cycling enthusiasts, running a Yorkshire club. My parents would cycle all over Yorkshire, the Dales and walked the Lake District. Father moved on it the world of motor engineering and so I came to travel with them, almost every weekend, across the Northern Dales and had many visits to "The Lakes" and the Fells mentioned here. This truly is a place of Heaven on Earth. Father called it "God's country" both AW and I know exactly the reason why. Great dedication by Alfred Wainwright - Marvellous coverage! Many thanks for this.

The view from Dalehead is considered gods country take a look at the views from the top and down the valley. You’ll know why it’s called just so

Eric Robson pronounces Skiddaw as Skidder. I always thought it were pronounced Skidoor. Can anybody clarify how it should be pronounced please?👍🏼

Agreed. To be honest it’s probably all his fault the lakes have been ruined. He should have kept his mouth shut.

I once read a book by a bloke with the same name, his wife left him after thirty years and he had nothing to do with his son.Made a packet and bought his single parent mother a radio as a thank you,,to end it all he wanted experiments to be carried out on prisoners instead of animals, who he left all his money to.It can't be the same person, looking at coast to coast I wouldn't want to do it, you'd end up with trench foot.Give me the Welsh valleys any day.

@@roywilding3039 I've read his book. He seems like a deeply troubled man. A hopeless romantic trapped in a repressed exterior and loveless marriage. He only felt at home in the hills, on his own, and then he fell head over heels for Betty McNally and fully connected with another human late in life. A complicated human.
