Well, it's referred to as a 'gota pushsplit' because of the same technique in gota io. Basically, if you overlap around 5/6 over someone next to a virus, there is a chance that when you split: they will eat only 1 of your pieces, they will pop on the virus because of it, and your remaining piece will eat them. However, it's down to luck, about 50/50, if done correctly. The latter result is that you just lose the piece entirely.
