Roberta flack in the 70s originated this song, Lauren hills and fugees in the 90s remade this song. Jessie J in 2018 killed this song. Roberta flack’s version is my fav though.

Tara - though you most likely will never see this, I have to say I usually don't enjoy these "Reaction" videos. However I recently saw a few of yours and begrudgingly watched them. I love your honesty, your passion, and the way you explain your comments so that untrained listeners learn how and why some of the best vocalists are exactly that: the best. And when you self-deprecatingly did your own "Idol" audition...you are a star in your own right. Professionals NEED professionals. Major props for keeping your feet planted firmly on the ground. you should react to some of the american idol performances
Most of the AI contestants could use vocal lessons. Very few really talented singers after hearing this lady sing it would be like chalk on chalkboard to listen to AI contestants.

@@TheLambertLover yes, I agree. Adam Lambert was my favorite until Dimash came along. Adam and Kelly have long careers not so much for many of the AI winners. There are a few more that have good careers and I love Katherine Mcfee and she is a great actress as well.

You are one of the few people to notice her shifting vocal patterns. I have edited music videos for forty years and Jessie J is a master at making space and/or delaying words to the last nano second in a lyric line. And it draws you in. The Christopher Walken of Music.
I saw Jessie J in concert in Montreal a few years ago, she is even better live than in the studio. Her energy is off the charts and it was the best concert I've ever been to!
The best vocalist of this generation, I had the pleasure to see her live and she's just so amazing, sounding better that in the albums everytime, i love her so much.

Jessie is my favourite singer of all time, ive seen her live 7 times and she never ceases to amaze me with her vocal abilities - i’ve followed her music for about 12 years and i still never tire of hearing her sing. She seems like an all round wonderful human being too💜
Quite simply, one of the greatest vocalists of all time. Jessie has an absolutely immaculate voice. She sounds the way chocolate tastes - ravishingly moreish and smooth.
That was *THE BEST* version of the song I have ever heard. She took me on a musical journey - I actually followed the story of the lyrics - and LIVED them! - for the first time!! It hit me. This performance musically, dynamically, vocally, moved me. BRAVO Jessie J :D

Actually Lorie Lieberman was the original artist, but Roberta made a huge hit with it.

In 1973 Roberta made it a number 1 hit, in 1997 Fugees won a Grammy with it

Just a minor point but Lauryn Hill's version was a cover. Roberta Flack was the originator not the Fugee's.
Peter Harrison both of the songs were in this video but thanks for giving her name (Roberta Flack).
Lori Lieberman is the original singer of this song in 1971... not Roberta flack. Robertas was actually the cover for lori's version

Just for clarity, this isn't inspired by Lauryn Hill- it's really a disservice to Ms Hill and Jessie J. Considering Roberta Flack is referenced in the video, and this arrangement is in the style of Roberta Flack (who ended the song in a major key). You did this same thing with the I Will Always Love You video, citing only Whitney - even though it's a Dolly Parton song, with Dolly often singing the third verse accapella.
What "thing" did she do? She said she grew up listening to Lauryn Hill sing this song.... 🤷
Lauryn Hill being the original artist was never mentioned or even suggested, she simply shared her personal connection to the song. And despite what arrangement Jessie actually sang, she specifically named Lauryn Hill as an inspiration to her as well, she never referenced Roberta Flack either. Whatever show she was on played a clip, but Jessie herself never mentioned her once. So I'm not understanding what it was she did... 🤔

I love her! I love her as an artist and a person! She's one of those crazy talented vocalists, who is down to earth and approachable! She has no ego. I saw her bring my fav Morissette on stage to sing with her when she performed in the Philippines a few years ago. Watching her interact with her was humbing. There's another clip where a fan just comes undone in her presence. She looked her straight in the eye and said "Its ok Its ok Im just like you I just sing!" I just loved that! More power and success to her. She has written some fantastic music. Still underrated IMHO!
