A bargain loco review for you here. I bought this from a special offer Dapol put on, lets see if she is good runner.

good to have you back Simon
Hello Simon, nice to see the Dapol running on your old layout, it's a good thing you kept it, it's come in handy.
Nice video. It's been very wet and stormy here in Perth Western Australia, a lot of damage, one house had the entire roof blown off on Monday.
Cheers, Gary
Yes it will be a while before the new layout is ready so its good to have Bodenham Woods as a backup. Scary stuff with the weather, hope it improves!
Simons Shed hi Simon, yes, scary weather it was, there's been no rain here Tuesday and Wednesday, but a lot colder, 17c in the day and 2c about 2.30am to about 6am.
Another comprehensive review which is really helpful. A couple of things to add which are common to all Dapol is the paint job or lack of it really let's them down. I have several GWR Dapols and the shade of green is very pale and nothing like the correct shade. Also the coal is always awful but Bachmann Farish is just as bad. Your version has the correct spoked tender wheels which my Ixion version does not. Neither do the Dapol Halls for some reason. Thanks for the video.
Well dayum son you just saved me a few bob 😂 I took up this offer at warley last year and I use DC, I've had the same problem with the 'will not run' issue and I've just about given up with it till now though. Glad to know it's not knackered. Nice review as always Simon.
Thanks James 👍 Yes its a strange one, must be something to do with the motor they are using but definitely worth testing it on different controllers if you can.
Beautiful loco! I'm thinking of picking up a Graham Farish princess coronation class City Of Bradford in BR Black this week, she is an absolutely stunning loco! Thanks for this great review, and I'm halfway finished with my N scale layout!
Wow the Coronations do look stunning, not quite halfway there with my layout but I'm making good progress at the moment!
Thanks for the feedback Simon, keep up the good work on your layout!
Awesome looking loco!
Hi, does the tender body just click off or are there any screws involved?
Many thanks for the review
I LOVE YOUR CAT 😍 she's sooooooooooo Cute
As you say Simon best loco with a terrific price. The only problem is as you say all the extra bits supplied, if only they provided a sheet showing where these items fit or even on their web site, it would make life much easier. Great loco though and wonderful price with all those extras.
Yes one day I will get around to actually fitting all the extra details that come with the locos!
Wow £50? What a steal 😦😦😦 remember when I got Oliver Cromwell for £60 , nice review 👍👍
Thanks Harry, always good when you get a bargain 😁
Nice review. Glad to have you back in my RUclips playlist.
Thanks Alan, its great to be back!
Great video. With the foxcote manor class, I'm experiencing a real problem with derailing. The front wheels constantly fall off the track over points or even on a standard curve. Any advice?
Hi Simon, as someone who is considering getting into N gauge please can you give me your opinion on whether Graham Farish models are superior to Dapol. I am looking for a general viewpoint. Thanks, Dan
I'd lean towards Farish myself, had a few issues with Dapol locos e.g. the B1 where smoke came out of the circuit board! Having said that the latest Dapol Diesels I've bought (class 68) have been great but (just in my experience) Farish locos have been more reliable.
Will it do first radius?
I had one on order when this video was released and was a bit worried, however mine seems to run fine on DC. I'm using a Kato controller and Unitrack but don't know if this would make a difference - I'm new to this railway modelling lark!
I would guess that the Kato controller is quite a bit better than the Bachmann train set controller I used. Glad to hear yours is running OK 👍
My layout is dc and I don’t have dcc and only have the Bachmann controller and it seems apparent that I wouldn’t be able to use this model on my layout. Does anyone have any ideas because I would like this model
You can buy second hand dcc controllers on ebay for less than 50 quid
Cyborg Badger thanks I’ll have a look into this
You can run models as dc as long as you have the blanking chip fitted (dcc ready) hope this helps.
What model sound decoder is in your cat? =P
I like Daopl.Lots of extra's Nice runner on DCC.
Yes was surprised there was so much extra, never had a fireman / driver in a loco before 👍
Hello, is there a motor in the Loco as well, or does the motor in the tender send power to all the wheels? With all of the steam locos I have the tender is just an empty wagon, which makes adding DCC Sound much easier. I am hoping to model a bit o the GWR in Cornwall, so this info would be helpful to me, thank you - good video, subbed!
+Jeff Curnow the only motor is in the tender, the power goes via the black shaft into the loco and drives the loco wheels. Thanks for subscribing 👍🏼
Thanks for the reply. As I thought about it again yesterday afternoon, I realized that the answer was kind of obvious: There would be no need for a driveshaft if there were a motor in the locomotive body. I do appreciate your answer! Been watching several of your videos. It's hard to find good content about N-Scale and I'm glad I found this.
Great review Simon, lovey detail, and smooth slow start up. All in all a very nice loco. Thanks for sharing. Cheers John.
Thanks, yes I'm pleased with the loco, and a bargain for £50 😁
Love the review, but you said "appropriate coaches". In what universe are LMS coaches appropriate for a GWR loco? :-D
Sorry James, but they are not LMS coaches. They are in fact BR Mk1 coaches.
very nice model must say it a great price
runs well detail is ok
thanks for sharing
Thanks, was a good bargain, they didn't hang around for long on the Dapol website shop!
Nice video ! :)
Nice review, nice model too, shame about the running on DC this obviously doesn't affect you as you run DCC. The slow speed Performance is great as well ..James.
It is a bit odd that it's so juddery on DC with that controller but yes, I was very pleased with how smooth she runs on DCC 👍
Thank you for this nice review!!
Thanks, enjoyed filming it, its been ages since I did a review!
That was a bargain.
Brilliant loco high price though.....
Yes price rises have been pretty steep lately, glad I managed to get this one on special offer.
