Great opening, Heath! This sounds like something I'd be interested in giving a watch. Thanks for the review!

Oh wow I didn't even know about this version of Green Hornet I only knew about the one with Bruce Lee. And I didn't know that it began as radio serial I thought it was a comic hero. Well you learn something new everyday. Good review and cool video Heath!👉😃👈

I'm so glad you reviewed this Green Hornet serial Blu Ray release. I will second the request to do reviews of the Kino Lorber Blu Ray releases of the serials "The Adventures of Captain Marvel" and "Daredevils of the Red Circle". A few other recent VCI serial Blu Ray releases I enjoyed are "Gang Busters", "Phantom of the Air", "The Vanishing Shadow", and "Tommy Tailspin and the Great Air Mystery". I hope to see more serial releases on Blu Ray in the future and more Serials at Midnight reviews.

I’ve only seen the 60’s version with Bruce Lee. I’ll have to check this one out. Thanks

You're not the first to wonder why Al Hodge didn't play the Green Hornet in the serials. He certainly had the looks. He would go on to be the actor most famous for playing Captain Video on television. However, when Columbia made the Captain Video serial, again Hodge was passed over, this time in favor of Judd Holdren. But Hodge help no grudges. In the late fifties, he would even host a show dedicated to playing old serials.

Keye Luke also played the old man in Gremlins.

I’m happy to see any serial get a new release and especially new scans since they are so poorly treated and not respected at all by most studios. I have to track down so many on Laserdisc and VHS because that’s all there is. Hopefully this release is like the better new VCI releases of Universal serials.

Nice to see another chapter in this series! Gordon Jones was in several Roy Rogers films of the 50's as his sidekick Splinters, several John Wayne movies, and as Mike the Cop in the CAM favorite, THE ABBOTT AND COSTELLO SHOW. I would like to see you cover THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL and DAREDEVILS OF THE RED CIRCLE, two excellent Republic serials which got blu-ray releases from Kino Lorber. Interested parties should pick these up before they go OOP.

Always happy for more Serials At Midnight. Tried watching some serials released through Alpha. They were watchable on tube TVs but upscaling from a dupey VHS source makes for some poor viewing. Glad the Hornet set sounds so good.

Really love these Serials @ Midnight vids. Not enough reviews on YT for releases like this. As you more or less said, this serial was very unusual in that most of the chapters were self contained. I wonder if that eased some stress for those poor kids back then who had to miss a weekly chapter due to mowing Aunt Fritzelda’s lawn. Probably not! Not on Blu, but I highly recommend the VCI DVD release of JUNGLE GIRL, arguably my all time favorite serial. Great cast and my own personal gateway drug to Trevor Bardette. 😵‍💫

How does the Cereal community start a campaign to contact Robert at VCI to suggest that he has YOU as an extra when they upgrade their releases?! This was chockfull of interesting tidbits, and a perfect example of your love for the material.
Oh, and happy to see Captain Tikki make an appearance in the opening!

Thanks, Jim! I mentioned to Robert in my interview with him that I'd love to contribute to future releases and I know that he's seen this video. The best way to let VCI know that you'd like to see me on future releases is probably to contact them on social media platforms like Facebook, though I don't think Mr. Blair is running those.

I'm watching this around 2am while I paint🎨 & eat peanut butter out of a jar with a spoon (cause I'm out of cereal).
