Thanks for sharing this. I remember seeing Jimmy often, back in Cleveland, 50 years ago. Fond memories of dances at the Slovenian Hall. The man has to be around 80 years old by now. Good on him for keeping on doing what he likes and making a living at it.

There is a place down here in Florida called the Villages, where they used to have a lot of Polka bands there, but the owners cheaped out, and no longer have any Polka music. In fact, their website has blocked any more talks from the public on the matter. Way to go Villages.

I saw them on RFD-TV last night (Mar. 1, 2019). It was incredible, much better than this clip. Had all three trumpets plus the baritone sax. Did some gospel numbers. Incredible.

Is that a regular broadcast on RFD and have you seen more of these older performances on there? I never seem to catch them on there.

King Jerr...I understand what you mean, and what I am going to write is going to sound like I'm making excuses. I'm just trying to educate. But, let's take a look closer at this. First, some of the "first string" players (e.g., Johnny Karas, Eric Parks) were on stage, but not all, and so it was not as tight. Second, the concert is outside and that has got to be the worst acoustics. I don't know any band who truly likes to play outside. Lastly, Jim did not have his full band with him. This gets a little technical, but when an arranger arranges for three trumpets and four saxes, and there is only two trumpets and three saxes, the full harmonies are not present. If you don't have the third of a chord, because an instrument is missing and not playing it, then you don't have the chord and the sound is not as rich. Lastly, the fiddle player, who is amazing, just seemed a bit tired and did not give 100%. If you want to see how well the FULL Jim Sturr orchestra can play and what it can do when all the A-list players are on stage, go to the following concert performed a few months before the one you are watching on this page, and you'll see how great they really are: ruclips.net/video/uX0UrAWT03U/видео.html

I share your feelings completely......................but there is one place outside in many towns called a "music shell". We have one in New Britain Ct called Walnut Hill Park. Not as big as some but at least there are decent acoustics there. I did a couple summer concerts there. Also did many gigs long ago with the bass-player on this video Rich Pavasaris. I see he's still with Jimmy after 17 years. "HI" Rich, just in case you read this. ( Chuck )
