    • @Mic-Mak

      Yes, but that's not the only reason. Lalo is smart. But he's not smarter than Gus. And just because Gus is smarter doesn't mean he can't be outsmarted by the likes of Lalo. Gus is smarter than Walt. Generally, I mean, not in terms of science. But we know the show is about Walt, so we know that he has to outsmart Gus and make it out on top. The writers' job was to do it in a believable way, and they did. It's the same logic with Lalo. The only slight difference is that some people think Lalo didn't get outsmarted in a believable way. I disagree. Lalo had flaws. One of them being that in moments of urgency and anger, he can be rash and make unforced errors.

    • @mugen9211
      @mugen9211 9 months ago +25

      @Mic-Mak the scene when he killed those invaders was dumb and not believable at all, the writings made those people unimaginably braindead and robotic. same when he died, it was pure stupidity how gus won

    • @a_skellington

      in the scene in Gus' office I think he does it to assert control, he's the one who decides the language and Gus has to follow

    • @willh2626
      @willh2626 9 months ago +31

      @harmalauri3891 yah, that. It does a few things at once which is the brilliance of this character, the writing, cinematography and acting. The sudden change from friendly Spanish to formal English puts Gus on notice that he won't be intimidated by his intelligence as well as (like you said) dictating the tone of the conversation. It's also hints that he plays his cards close to his chest; he knows more than what you think he does. He isn't the typical cartel all brawn no brains Salamanca.

    • @TheBulap
      @TheBulap 7 months ago +8

      @willh2626 I love the way he subtly confirms that the nurse at Hector's home doesn't speak Spanish and then keeps her on, so that he knows he can speak openly and even if she overhears anything she won't understand it.

      He really is scary. I think I’d be uncomfortable around the actor since he doesn’t talk much differently than Lalo. It’d be hard to know what he’s thinking.
      On the other hand The actor who played Gus is very different and would not be intimidating.

    Not only does Lalo act the exact opposite of Hector by feigning respect and politeness at Los Pollos, in his first scene we see him passionately cooking at Hector's restaurant so his compliments on the chicken are probably sincere.

    • @nxmx6ix
      @nxmx6ix Day ago +1

      Keyword probably, because you and I both know Lalo's strongest quirk is his charisma, which means he might've said that just to appear more friendly to Gus.

    • @carlosuzaier5858
      @carlosuzaier5858 Day ago

      @nxmx6ix There are many instances of Lalo saying stuff that seems super genuine but we then find out is absolute BS (even in the scene shortly after the meeting in Gus's office where he litters away the drink in his parking lot, possibly showing disrespect to the establishment). However, I would like to believe that he truly did enjoy the chicken. I mean, his basket seemed pretty empty, and from the various recreations I've seen of Los Pollos Hermanos chicken on RUclips, it's actually pretty damn good.

    Tell me again, is so fantastic. Saul is the type of guy who makes up (and practices in his head) the kind of story that sounds convincing enough the first time. So when he tells the story again, he has to make the kind of adjustments (omission, irregularities) a normal person would make if it wasn't a lie. And everytime it has to be just as convincing for a psychopath lime Lalo.

      Héctor was a muscle. And smart enough to be boss of his own family and a hand to Eladio. But he was always de dumber of the trío Eladio, bolsa, Salamanca. I see it like the god father. Something like vito tessio and clemenza. Héctor would be the clemenzza of the group street smart and muscle. Lalo is even steps up to Eladio and a step over Gus because hes crazier and has less restraint. Gus is limited by his fazade.

    • @roykhan1883

      Basically, Lalo had gifted Mateo a dental procedure (presumably with a dentist that Lalo knew well) and after the procedure, the dentist removed Lalo’s teeth records and replaced them with Mateo’s. This is a contingency plan for if Lalo ever needed to fake his death.
      Once he is presumed death after the raid on the Salamanca house at the end of season 5, all he needs to do is make sure that Mateo is also dead, as Mateo is the only one that could tie Lalo to the whole record-switching ordeal.
      The final shot of Mateo after shaving is just for the audience to put together that Mateo looks like Lalo and Lalo probably leveraged that in some way to aid with his death faking.
