Solent Ships is operated from Town Quay, the Old Town quarter of Southampton, where the Mayflower departed 400 years ago.
Utilising various cameras our small crew are dedicated in providing a window onto our historic waterfront in the Solent region. The ‘Captain’ of our crew is a licenced drone pilot and day skipper, with an added passion for photography.
This channel has a large library of drone footage, documenting (with commentary) the various vessels that sail by one of the busiest Ports in the UK. At Solent Ships, you can also access 24 hour live streaming video of the day-to-day movements of all shapes and sizes of marine traffic, an ever-changing view that is enjoyed by cruise ship enthusiasts and water watchers worldwide.
The channel is expanding with new camera locations and with regular live commentary and millions of views a month, Solent Ships is the most interactive shipping-based channel on RUclips. I will be spending 4 months on this ship during the Aida world cruise starting October 26th. It was great to be able to see the way it looks on the outside. Thanks for the footage.
A gorgeous video! What lovely shots. The AIDA fleet is my favorite visually. I don't know if I'd want to go on a cruise with all the party-ing and action; I much prefer enrichment. But I'd love to walk through one and be on the bridge..
I love the atmospheric audio you have on these - any chance you could tell us what it is/ where we can find it if it's not original?
Great drone vid Captain .
Very still morning on water , great light for getting some great shots .
Do like the older look on cruise ships rather than the modern look of lets see how many people we can squeeze into that space , look .
Am I right in thinking the rocks at Studland were once linked to the Needles ?
Those rocks do look like they are the same ‘rock fabric’ if you know what I mean. (I’m not up on rock terms) 😘
Thanks shipmate. Yes, there is a ridge that links the two, it's still under the water, sometimes bigger ships get stuck on it.
@@SolentShips Interesting , may be another reason ships don't go out via Needles from Southampton .
@@JulieWallis1963 Evidently they were linked a long long time ago .
If the sphinx class ships have an Egyptian motif, I would suggest that the pronunciation is probably ay-ee-da.
That's exaclty what I thought shipmate, ASDA....
Thanks for posting this - I’ve not seen many Aida ships in the past, but this one is beautiful. I agree re the stern of this one - 100% more ‘classy’ than the more ‘normal’ megaships these days!
I know what you mean shipmate. The Queen Mary 2 is a really good example of a terraced stern.
It would be interesting to know the berth costs in Southampton and Portsmouth, as I have noticed various ships arriving into both - (Saga, Aida for example). Brilliant video as always. Captain.
Thanks shipmate. The berthing costs would be interseting to know for Portsmouth, I have heard that it about $50,000 a day in Southampton to a cruise ship.
@@SolentShips looks like if you're a cruise ship and you want to berth here, you have to contact the harbour master directly if you are over 200m, according to the Portsmouth Port website! Very interesting stuff listed on their PDF - charges for all manner of things like Tractor Unit Parking!
@@pollzieboo I'm always looking for somewhere to park my tractor unit Shipmate
She didnt look so great in Stavanger, Norway last week next next to the much newer MSC Virtuosa.
Oh dear shipmate. Perhaps a re-fit and lick of paint is required.
Some great film there. Very relaxing to watch. I remember arriving back in Southampton last summer on the Disney Magic and the water at Southampton was so still. (I did make a video for RUclips but to advertise that would be shameless self promotion)
So in my mind, it’s always calm at Southampton. I’m sure it’s not, but…I’ve _never_ seen it rough. 😝
Nothing wrong with a bit of shameless self prmotion shipmate. It is often calm in port, but the water calm home some surface ripples, where as on that morning it was really flat, due to the low wind.

Thanks shipmate
Ahoy Cap'n do u receive funds via Ads ?
