COD: Black Ops I Soundtrack (All Rock/Metal Segments)

- Опубликовано: 7 июн 2024
- This time, we're taking a dive into the rock/metal segments of the COD: Black Ops soundtrack, composed by the always-amazing Sean Murray and Kevin Sherwood. My definition of what is considered rock/metal is completely up for you to criticise in the comments.
After living with this soundtrack for the past couple of months, my love for it has grown exponentially; and I'm happy to say I've acquired a revived love for the game as well. (As well as compiling these cues by mission, I've included the track name for them from the official soundtrack album as they appear in the game.)
I hope I have not missed out on any cues. Please don't hesitate to berate me if, having listened to the cues from Black Ops, I still managed to miss a segment somewhere.
Once again, I do not own any of what you hear - Sean Murray, Kevin Sherwood, and the rest of the team behind this game are the rightful creators of this soundtrack. They are the reason for which I have compiled this compilation: to pay homage to their great compositions. As always, let me know which cue gets you playing some air guitar! :D
Timestamps for your convenience:
0:00 - Operation 40
3:02 - U.S.D.D. (Multiplayer Theme)
4:35 - Executive Order
5:41 - S.O.G.
8:35 - The Defector
19:01 - Numbers
24:02 - Victor Charlie
24:31 - Crash Site
25:07 - WMD
30:31 - Payback
32:48 - Rebirth
34:15 - Redemption
37:25 - Beheaded (Bonus track)
40:09 - Panthers (Bonus track)
I have not included the Zombies soundtrack because... well... you've got playlists on RUclips dedicated to that side of Black Ops. That, and this 40-minute long compilation would be at least doubled in length if I had included all those songs. Thanks for understanding. :) - Видеоклипы
Pentagon and Rooftops are iconic. Hearing them at the start of a match if you were on the Black Ops or Op40 teams was hype
Definitely gets you pumped up, right?
@@Skauldrich for sure
bo1 and WaW probably had the best metal in cod
Absolutely! I'm taking a dive into some of the metal in the other games (which may or may not go up at some point), and I can confirm that Sean Murray's work is the best. :)
@@Skauldrich cool
BO1 absolutely hits it on the head with the soundtrack once more, capturing the mix of high cinematic action and the mind fuckery numbers plot. Rooftops from 22:18 onward just goes so fucking hard it's insanely good.
It really does, doesn't it? Feels a lot like a movie in some places. Funny you mentioned Rooftops; Numbers as a mission just builds up as the action continues, and so does the soundtrack.
The Defector the best one in my opinion. It really makes you feel that you are fighting in hell, buildings on fire, enemies everywhere, the intense gunfire and the chopper, oohh the chopper, it only makes that feeling stronger
An excellent choice. There’s something about that chopper, right? The humming noise it makes as it shoots seems to add to the music - a little like in Payback.
That heavy guitar and drum part of the soundtrack for The Defector always felt to me like a more modernized version and insane version of Boldman City from WAW, even taking some of the cues from it like the angelic choir singing throughout the song. The mission as a whole makes you feel like you're seriously on the clock as you fight for your life against the unstoppable horde of NVA that are overrunning Hue in a matter of days or hours.
If you interpret the song as being similar to Boldman, you could probably even say that The Defectors music is probably the music the Germans would be hearing as the Soviets rushed through the streets of Berlin and slaughtered anyone who tried to stand in their way, as you experienced with Dimitri in WAW.
@@gooperbob749 Now there’s a thought: WaW, but you’re playing as the Germans. Not to mention: BO1, but you’re the NVA.
@@Skauldrich As long as the voice line is good, I would play it haha. The Vietnamese voice in Black Ops 1 is absurdly inaccurate and laughable. Battlefield Vietnam, a game came like 6 years before, manage to have a more authentic Vietnamese voice. The quality is even improved in Battlefield Bad Company 2 DLC: Vietnam. I know authenticity is the weakest aspect of Call of Duty. I enjoy playing it but still wish it could be better.
@@cloudynguyen6527 I understand. These can definitely be let-downs, especially if we know and understand the language. They say ignorance is bliss, but how can we avoid it if we were born knowing the language, right? 😆

i fr went “😂😂😂🦆🦆🦆” when i read that lol
my sister used to leave some biohazards in the bowl, ill say that much
Sean Murray is the top of top of Videogames composer, sadly he is not as remenbered as Himmer in CoD, but for me, he is in the same level.
The mark he has made on the series will not go unappreciated, that's for certain. :)
All of the guitars are done by Kevin Sherwood
Sean just went full djent on some of these pieces and it makes me feel things in my loins
That's why we're all here, brother! 😂
Kevin Sherwood did all the guitar and bass for waw and bo1, and made the zombies songs
SOG The Defector and Rooftops are the best by far. Those low heavy guitar riffs are so badass and really set the tone of the darkness, adrenaline, menacing and gritty environment of the Vietnam War and communist threats
I couldn't agree more. They are definitely the highlights of the soundtrack, aren't they? A masterclass in how music can really set the scene. 😀
Pentagon, rebirth and executive order are also really good
@@Deathmare235 It's too difficult to choose a favourite, huh? 😂
@@Skauldrich I’d probably give it to rooftops, though the mission could be better
@@Deathmare235 An excellent choice, sir. :)
35:19 forever changed the trajectory of my life
I hope for the better... 😉
@@Skauldrichdefinitely;)
The final part of Numbers will always be my favorite, it feels like im a movie fight scene lol
Oh and Rebirth is really cool. Thats the best word to describe it. Just unapologetically cool. Wish there was more.
Really moves the level along, doesn't it? Just amplifies the action that little bit more.
Absolutely! Especially going by the fact we hear the Rebirth cue as we encounter Nova gas in combat. What a memorable moment, right?
Also check Zombies Easter Egg songs, they're beautiful
I can not get enough of the drum pattern (especially the snare) starting at 12:00
As a guitarist, I’d have thought that I’d concentrate more on the guitar - but I’m the same. The percussion in that cue is so good! 🤩
@@Skauldrichthey both work in tandem in a fuckin tasty way; I love this era of COD music for shit just like this
@@kyleshepard3139 It may just be a simple riff that's done over and over again - but if you listen close enough, you can distinguish a number of layers... :)

Kevin Sherwood remade part of the defector song into its own song for Gorod Krovi in bo3 called dead ended.
That's something I've definitely missed. I'll give it a listen. :)
The redemption part specifically 36:51 of the soundtrack is something I would want to play after I finish something super difficult. I'm surprised that they didn't use it for the winning team to hear when they won in multiplayer.
Satisfying, isn't it? Technically it is played after the Americans win... only it's just at the very end of the campaign... 😆
it was already an reused song of the Verrucket loading screen
@@thedancingguy828 Is that right? I'll have to give that a listen.
@@Skauldrichmy mistake it was the riff just before it
Yes! I’ve been waiting for a video like this
Glad to finally deliver. Hope you enjoyed it. :)
Was just thinking about this, went looking for a comp and found out you posted one, thank's
My pleasure. Hope you found what you were looking for. :)
Rooftops and Rebirth are masterpieces
I 100% agree!
Glad you got the gamerip/"in-game mixes" of these tracks!
Absolutely! The album version is unfortunately a little underwhelming when it comes to many sections of the soundtrack. Glad you liked it. 😀
@Alexy385 the in-game mix of Resurrection is super epic with the drums/percussions added. I think that was possible Kevin Sherwood's mix.
@@Skauldrichalso at 12:02, that riff is used in Kevin Sherwood's "Dead Ended" track in BO3 Gorod Krovi.
@@Skauldrichjust like the in-film version of No Time for Caution in Interstellar is way better than the album mix.
0:00 OP40’s track has been baked in my head since i first played
Are you sure they aren't actually the numbers inside your head?
That blackbird mission was so badass man
Absolutely! It's got the music to match the aesthetic, right?
@@Skauldrich exactly!! It fits so damn well! The ominous feeling of being in a stealth mission while switching between the skies and the action on the ground!! What an amazing score for an amazing mission!!
Still better than all COD osts released after
There's a reason for that, you know. I don't see Sean Murray being credited anywhere in the COD franchise after BO1... 😉
@@SkauldrichBO2 was the exception (being a significantly good CoD game).
Ahhh... This was pleasing to hear. Thank you for putting this together, and cool pfp btw. 👍🏻
My absolute pleasure.
And thanks, I appreciate it. 😀
Amazing thank you!! ❤
With pleasure! 😀
Sean Murray is my Favorite Composer, he's like my mentor in my own creation of compositions. I made a Black Ops 12-Year Anniversary video with Murray and Sherwood's Music playing in Background. Thank you so much for the Metal/Alt Rock compilation upload my dude! 🤘😎
This type of Video Game Metal Segments felt more Raw & Organic compared to Mick Gordon's compositions (Not throwing shade everyone, relaaax,
I love Mr. Gordon as well)
Appreciate it, mate. :)
Always glad to find others who are passionate about this kind of thing.
I'll definitely give your channel a snoop...
Listening to this while playing Multiplayer helped me getting crazy killstreaks.
Haha! Go get 'em, son!
12:02 Best!
It's brilliant, isn't it?
@@Skauldrichda
There's something about that snare tone that Sean used in this sound track for BO1 as a drummer I am still to this day in love with that tone!
Surely you get on some covers of some of these cues. I'd love to hear them. :)
6:00 MASON! GET HIM TO THE BUNKER ILL COVER YOU! GO!
What a moment, right? :D
The metal segments are fire, adrenaline inducing even.
Who needs adrenaline shots, when you’ve got soundtrack like Rooftops to get you in the mood?
@@Skauldrich Yes.
Alright, you hyped me up for a next Black Ops 1 walkthrough
You're not the only one. 😂
I may have motivated myself to do another playthrough - music cranked up, of course...
These Rock segments in the OST sounds like that Activision is paying homage to the Underrated Disney Cartoon Motorcity.
Haha! I must admit, I've never heard of the cartoon. Had a bit of a Google of it, listened to the music from the show, and I reckon you're on to something here. 😆
@@Skauldrich I am.
@@emeraldphoenix5868I’m pretty sure part of the victor charlie theme is from cod waw
Alot of the BO soundtrack stems from WaW, it's the same composer and a continuation of the story so.....@@anthonylarson60

Yes, you can. 😆
Next to world at war I agree, we’ll never have a call of duty like this again sadly
@@roronoazoro2970world at war is also really good
They didn’t have to go this hard
But they did and it’s made this game peak Attitude Era COD because of it
I couldn't agree more. 😀
Kevin Sherwood's tracks: Cuba Streets, Mask Walk, Boat Deck (Verruckt remix)
Could you do CoD4? I know there’s some pretty badass music in the campaign. “We're going deep and we're going hard.”
It may or may not already be in the works… 😉
When does Hard Target play in Crash Site? After getting off the boat?
36:22 pov you got an A on that test
American flags appear everywhere, jet fly-over, fade to black.
Nett, gute Arbeit..
Danke, Bruder. Ich hoffe, es hat Ihnen gefallen. :)
The defector was used in dead ended the gorod krovi Easter egg song
There’s a bit of trivia I didn’t know. 😮
5:41 is actually "Crash" which sounds similar to that part of Pentagon.
Glad you picked up on that part. :)
can you do a 1 hour loop for the SOG part? That's awesome
Any part in particular? From 5:41 onwards? The segments after 6:05?

There's something about BO1 Multiplayer menu theme that reminds me when my dad would take me to COD's midnight releases and camp out at Gamestop to get the game. We did that for every cod till Ghost when Gamestop handing out tickets and personally didn't really like ghost that much.
That's nostalgia for you, brother. 😀
Now we need one for Bo2

@@MovedToANewChannel326 Gets you pumped, doesn't it?
the first part of the main menu theme, the like trailer kinda music part is my favorite
but nothing will beat WaW or the Multiplayer theme.
Interesting, isn't it? I don't know if you noticed, but I had to splice the Pentagon version with the multiplayer theme, since there are certain parts that don't include the guitar.
Panthers? You also hear parts of it during Crash Site, and the Reznov flashback.
10:42 What's a DBD killer theme doing here?
Who knows? Maybe the team behind Daylight were inspired by this soundtrack... 🤔

The fact thst Executive Orders ost isn't on Spotify is super disappointing, it's STUPID good.
It's a shame, really, that we didn't get some bangers on the official release. I'm sure there was a reason behind it, but still, one can complain... 😂
That's an in-game mix of "The Wall" with more percussions.
10:42 - 35:20
Brilliant cues, aren't they?
Mask Walk is not in BO1 OST Cd is a huge mistake
So many missed bangers that were not on the album, right? I mean, what were they thinking?
Maybe because it is not composed by Sean Murray, but BO2 OST contains all BGM@@Skauldrich
Could be. Sometimes it's difficult to know with this things. At least BO2 doesn't have this problem.@@emmaemp244
Of course Apple Music has only a few of these songs
Much like Spotify, I'm afraid... It's a crime that most of the cues aren't found anywhere other than the game itself... (Or RUclips. 😉)
