"Rule #1 Don t go solo"
*Bismarck flashbacks intensify*
I understood that reference
*At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss, they are bound by iron and blood, the flagship of the navy ,the terror of the seas, his guns have gone silent last*
Well he wasent solo like prince uegen
A beast made of steel
*PRIDE OF A NATION A BEAST MADE OF STEEL*
Went into an objective with 4 teammates.. 30 seconds later I was by myself getting lit up by 6 ships
Me every fucking match
ye
Every fucking time
*Inset battle of the surigao strait*

The problem is "stay with your team", they are generally much faster than you, so either a) they run away from you and get killed before you get there b) when enemies appear on horizon, your team just runs away leaving you a lone sitting duck in shooting gallery for enemies.
Sometimes it's not really in your power to help your team if they don't want to get helped....
Do the best you can :P if team vanishes, apply rules 2-5 and go from there.
PetrSojnek 1.) Other BBs aren't faster than you 2.) If other ships run too far away from you it's their mistake, because they lose your support and you can do nothing about it anyway
All you can do is show your team you will draw fire for them. If you take the damage and use your HP your team will be effective. Your cruisers will very often die first when the BBs refuse to take damage and don't push...
I aim to keep cruisers within about 10km. I consider that a range at which I can support them. Reasons being if they feel the need to retreat I'm relatively close. And that friendly cruiser doesn't need to close the full 10km between us since my guns have a longer range.
If it's another BB shooting then you can dodge quite easily in a cruiser, and if it's another cruiser you'll be able to shoot at them too before your friendly cruiser has closed the gap.
You're unlikely to kill anything more than a thousand fish at max range, but saturation fire from you and that cruiser is probably enough that one of you will hit or you'll scare him off.
Still holds true my friend. Lol I've steamed ahead to support them, gotten left behind...... as they ran. Once was even a guy who asked for my support and once I got there he ran away and I was like WTF??
That happen alot
it's very common and this happens to me a lot, I get left behind at the start because I'm slow as hell and the faster ship rush into the fight get killed then it's 1 battleship vs 8 bots or 8 players.
17:30 If only people would learn that pushing is a viable option, and supporting the one pushing can yield great results!
I just had a match in a Kutuzov where a friendly Bismarck pushed into the enemy team. When I saw him pushing, it gave me courage to go in with him, and we completely mopped up the entire enemy team.
I love it when a friendly BB attacks at the right moment.
If only more players would support like you did. I have had only 2 random matches that 2 complete strangers actually game support to my ship and we carried together. I was on the Bismarck on both, first supported by a Hipper, second match by an Atlanta.
I think one of the major problems is noone wants to push or brawl anymore due to the overwhelming number of vessels that carry torpedoes. Everyone just seems to sit at standoff range and throw ineffective shots at each other.
+iChaseGaming You forgot one important point in you list: "Learn from your mistakes!" For example at 19:16 you can see in chat, that the enemy BB (Eldanari) that got deleted a few moments ago says: "I deserved that" He clearly accepted that it was his fault and didn't blame the team for it like most other players do. I'm pretty sure the next couple of games he didn't repeat this misplay. :)
That is very true, always learn from mistakes :) helps improve your game
Hey i really like your videos keep up the good work i want to clarify some stuff i have with you.
1. Should DD's always push for caps even if the enemy is amassing at that point and you know you cant hold it. I've seen a lot of DD's do it and get rekt.
2. Does the distance to a target affect the performance of
AP shells and chance to hit the citadel.
3. Sometimes i get heavy damage from long range even when im heavily angled to them. how on earth
4. I use cruisers ( American tier VI ) and on average i land around 70 - 80 + shells on target but my damage done is not that great roughly around 20k - 40k. I use HE and use AP only when the target in is decently in close range i can hit a citadel.
Hoping for a reply :)
Glen Owin one time while I was in my gneisenau I was with 1 DD and 2 CAs. There were 2 Battleships in front of us that weren't supported. I told to the ships around me that I will push if they come with me or not. The DD accepted to support me for our push and the CAs just camped near te spawn.
The DD and me killed the 2 battleships but the DD died just before te death of the second one.
So... DDs can push yes if they are supported.
And for the AP shells in the real life the shells do lose penetration capabilities with the distance. Ex. a tank with a penetration of 200mm at 200m wich is at 1km from a Tiger 2 will pratically never penetrate him at this distance while if he was closer yes.
So yes it can increase or decrease your chances of hitting the citadel. You can overpen or make a right hit, notice that sometimes you can hit a citadel while it's an overpen.
No.1 rule - don't sail in straight line!
Until you turn with that peace of crap the game ends.
Maybe you should show games that aren't easy to win for you, as you are in a top tier BB with another Yamato on your side. There's not a lot to learn from this match, as there is almost no threat for you. And during the only tricky situations you're making mistakes. Like not targeting the DD close to you first and kill the Amagi instead. The DD was the serious threat and took you and the other BB out, he could have been killed with a single salvo earlier. The Amagi couldn't get away anyway.
You're pushing all the time and at no time you had to make a decision and change course...so it just isn't a good replay to learn from, as you don't need skill for a match like this. Better chose a game in a weaker ship showing effectiveness of angling, drawing fire, pushing and retreating to turn a close game.
And both yamatos knew the dd was there and still pushed out. That is stupid.
Wo_9 was so good in that Iowa making that such an extreme pleasure to watch!
there has to be a mechanic that every player has to watch at least 1 tutorial for every ship class and nation before playing it ;-)
Haha, I wish that were true
I agree with the notion of staying with your team all the time, with a few exceptions. Sometimes both teams are stalemated bow-in to each other. If you have a fast battleship (Iowa or NC comes to mind), and you use islands to conceal your intentions, you can sweep around one flank and get into a position were you have the other team's broadsides to shoot at. I have racked up some crazy scores doing this.
I watched a few of your videos and my battleship play has definitely improved. Thank you very much.
About the repair, it is a bit hard to know when to use it, especially if you have 2 fires set, you repair and suddenly a torp bomber floods you...
What should you do when your whole team backs away and huddles away from all objectives, stacking up on say A and B 2-3 as far away from enemies and objectives? Every time I see this happen I always see then get rolled over once the enemy is in range of them, assuming they don't just ignore them and cap.
New player who figured out Destroyers right away but having trouble with the larger ships. Really helpful.
Thanks for the tips, and I was sometimes complained by my teammates for being a coward. like you said, a BB should push with team even though she might got sunk, not being blinded by the amount of damage she fires.
Thank you for the video...I got so much better at battleships now! I went from averaging 2k damage to 50 k. Thanks!
Chase, I just put your channel on the WoWs survey as reference! Keep the good work.
Chase, you're right that you should never be alone in a BB. But is having reliable teammates something you really have control over? Playing WoWS solo as a BB can be a trying experience in this regard. So often I THINK I have support, but my allies turn tail and run at the first sign of danger, hanging me out to dry. So while I agree with your tip, it's not really a "skill;" it's just luck of the draw whether you get a team that meaningfully supports you.
Second, angling is a great skill. But again, it assumes that you're fighting other BBs who also fire AP. Against the myriad firebreathing CA/CLs and torp-spamming invisible DDs, angling means nothing.
I often make the mistake of thinking WoWS is a solo game. It isn't. So much depends on having a team with you. I rarely lose 1-on-1 brawls with other BBs (which I find to be the most fun part of the game, period). But it's rare to have that opportunity.
When I play (Tier V Furutaka) ALL of the battleships stay at the far back while the cruisers and destroyers go to attack.
Any tips??
The advice on only using AP is mostly correct but it should be noted that some BBs HE is better. For instance the Iron Duke excels at setting fires.
Play to the strength of your ship.
This gameplay boosted my love for Iowa
Is it ok to stay back and protect the CV in a carrier game. Normally I like to protect the CV
Ha rule one gets broken right out of the gate with my teams, I follow a group into an area only for them to turn around and ditch me at the first sign of danger leaving me to put-put far behind them. Rule two is also a bust as I have been ripped apart by other battleships even two tiers below me regardless if I'm "bow in" or "angled". Rule three I have no argument save for the fact that, again battleships even at a lower tier than me, majority of my rounds seem to bounce or shatter off of everything I fire at. This also includes destroyers and cruisers, provided that my rounds even land on them in the first place due to lovely "dispersion". Four is just a given. In regards to five, I try to have a "master plan" but as the expression goes when punched in the face. This one ties into rule one also as pointed out before, I go in well defended only to find myself all alone facing off with two enemy battleships and three cruisers with no way to turn around so as to not expose my broadside to them.
Yes thank you, exactly my thouggts!
Ok, quick update on my previous statements and frustrations. On the point of "dispersion" to be precise, I just completed a round of WoW's on a random battle, resulting in 96 rounds fired resulting in only 9 hit targets. That's a less than ten percent accuracy rating with a ship some have said to have "good guns". I always find videos done by RUclipsr's explaining how to be a better team player recorded with them using the highest tiered ship of any line with at least one friend in a division with them.
Why don't you mention to use Catapult Fighters to get sight against enemy BB behind island/smokes or torpedoes?
8/10 BB doesn't even use them until they sunk or game ended.
Sometimes I wish the spotting plane didn't change the camera angle when shooting. I struggle a bit with landing shots in this view. There have been times when I wanted to use the plane, but thought that if I used it now, I won't be able to land my shots for the next two minutes.
Catapult Fighter doesn't do that
I don't care about tanking in a bb but i care what my team is doing when i tank.
Most of the time they would run away as fast as possible and left me behind, even I type in chat to inform them.
Btw, what is the best way to kill a german bbs? They have that armor which is hard to citadel.
Go for pen damage, their upper belt armour isn't that good
13:26 chat
that is perfect
I always had good results from shooting AP at the superstructure of angled BBs if i can't overmatch
Do how to battleships in current meta. My KDA is tanking real hard :/
Its a bit of an old video, but should I use the repair control party before taking a huge salvo? (considering I'm already hit and I know the incoming shells are gonna hurt) So I can get a bit more repair out of it?
How should I keep up with the rest of the team if their faster than me? And should I consider protecting the carrier's on my team?
Because rushing in with your team ins't gonna work all the if you can get shot from multiple sides, I think you should reconsider battleships as for long range cover while the cruisers and destroyers do the spotting and the dirty work of the frontline.
Perhaps you could add another short video for BBs and each of the other classes for their ranked play differences from random battles?
Chase... I watch a lot of videos from different RUclipsrs on WoWS.. The one subject nobody ever covers is speed.. The whole time you were playing I was paying attention to your foot work. I think you should elaborate on what speeds a battleship should be going in different situations.
Great Video as always. Quick Question. Your first rule, which I religiously follow, is never go alone as a BB. However I tend to find other BB's to team up with. Should I rather be teaming up with a combined arms battle-group or would it be better to continue with trying to create a powerful BB battle-group. Your thoughts.
Can't wait for your how-to-cv vid >.
check out Aerroons. he has some pretty good CV guides, both beginner and advanced
They're pretty old and outdated tho.... CV gameplay, balance and economy switches almost every patch :s
Yeah, that video is coming :)
Aerron's videos are barely outdated, the gameplay hasn't changed at all since the nerfs to the strike loadouts, and that still was a long time ago.
im a measly t4 (almost 5) and the fact that you hit citadels AT ALL 10km plus is mind boggling
Thanks for the help Captain!
Will use there tips and help in battle!
How to battleship (according to noobs):
1. Stay in the back trying to snipe at 15-25 km while far behind the rest of your team and never go for objectives because that's where the DD's and CA's of your team are supposed to die.
2. Stay close to islands without support because DD's don't like to hide behind islands and won't even think about sneaking up on you.
3. Sail in straight lines and show broadside to enemies so it's easier for you to aim
4. Don't pay attention to the minimap, no important information can be found there
5. And most importantly, rage in the chat about how the rest of your team consists of noobs for dying or how torpedoes and fires are OP.
Bonus points if you push your allies out of their smoke because you as the bigger ship have a right to claim it, or make it impossible for your allies to torp the enemy by being in the way
How do you play the New York lol. A ship that isnt accurate enough to even hit reliably at close range, armor, even angled gets mauled......
These higher tier ships, the shell dispersions are within the bow to stern of the enemy ship. The NY, it sends shells to the bow and stern of your monitor....
how do you play rank battles
oh thxs dude, I really needed this video but one question: In a rank, what should I do to be usefull? I think I'm following all this tips but not always I get the win (sometimes is a crashing default).I'm currently playing N. Carolina. Cheers from Argentina :)
They need to ad in the Minas Gerais and the São Paulo. They were two Brazilian battleships used in world war 1 and they were the most powerful battleships in the world upon completion.
iChase, can you please elaborate the AP vs DDs. It used to be a "rule" to use HE against DDs (if possible). I am aware that AP wrecks DDs if they are bow/stern on, but I dont know why "strictly AP against DDs" is currently the rule. I still have that in my mind ... if a DD is close by my mind want to switch to HE.
watch this updated HE vs AP video: ruclips.net/video/O4Xn8bx8u8A/видео.html
when I get a fire or flood, I use the ship repair first but if I get 2 fires I use the emergency crew thing.
Great lesson, I am really bad at operating BB's see if this helped.
These help me so much as I am new to world of warships
:D I'm glad they were helpful
Using HE against DD is way better, at least if you know its coming and you'll have to deal with them.
With HE you get much more consistent damage, AP overpens and doing 1k damage doesnt helps you at all. Other factor for HE is high module(s) damage and high probability of fire. With few hits from high caliber guns and support from secondaries, you can cripple DD badly, leave him burning and immobilized for other ships, if you dont delete him instantly.
Is it 'short range presents' or 'iChase presents' in the intro???
Funny thing that I actually give kudos to war gaming.net for is that the console version honestly looks better than the pc version.Mostly it’s the other way around for most games, with pc getting all the game while console players only get what’s left over
How do you say players diesel see if somebody has been to the ship? How can that happen in?
great Video!
How do you get that HUD that shows if your shells penetrated or not?
Enable alternative info in the setting menu
I'm doing fairly well in my BBs. One issue I'm having is overpens on cruisers. Especially German ones. Lead is good, land center of the hull and very often, ding ding ding, 2-3 overpens, no pen, no citadel, lame damage. Anything I'm overlooking here ?
Jesus... that Iowa got *MELTED*. I feel bad for the guy, actually...
I use he against destroyers so I can one shot them with he before they give you torpedoes to worry about and ap may cause over penetration with destroyers because there armour is quite thin
Would you reccomend firing AP at an angled ships turrets?
I've only recently started playing wows, I'm no ship expert at all..last ship game I played was battle stations midway/pacific and that's miles different, how does a ship bounce? I understand if it hits the turret, side of the ship, citadel at angles etc but not if the shell lands on the deck as its flat? also do the higher tier ships shoot further? I'm on t3 Japanese line atm (I want the Kongo and Yamato) and it doesn't shoot far at all..some destroyers and smaller ships fire much much further.
Hi for new mexico, what upgrades modification should I choose?
I chose:
- main armaments modification 1
- damage control system modification 1
-
- steering gears modification 2
Need some recommendation for the third one and others if there are any better ones.
Go to the Wiki guide for WOWS. Excellent reviews of all the ships in the game, and recommendations for upgrades, consumables and captain skills for each one. Also gives the strengths and weaknesses of each. Some even have video showing what to do and not do.
The first battle with the Yamato: Did your and nevers earnings cover the repair/maintenance costs? I think that in the higher tiers BB captains are playing that defensive-camper-playstyle because of the high repair costs...
Well, if you're playing high tiers you can't expect to really make credits. All WG games are designed this way, high tiers cost credits, low tiers make credits to fund the high tiers. I think with premium account I made a 160k credits on that battle. N3V3R i think lost some though
I have a colorado and it seems to burn like it's full of kindling.
Chase can you please tell me what your favourite class is
I play all classes and since I tend to do pretty good with all of them, I enjoy all of them :P but if I have to pick an outright favourite, CVs?
I think you do a great job with your reviews....
I'd like to see your class on Ranked BB play. At my current rank (13) lots of bad BB skippers
I question your advice on 'Always use AP'. I've pretty much given up on it myself.
Example? Just finished a game with a Nassau. Broadside at about 5 km against a Bellerophon. They were angled, about 30 degrees I'm guessing. All eight shots hit. Results? One penetration, two over penetrations, 3 shatters and a bounce. And that's fairly typical.
AP is so fucking random, and bad, that I rarely use it/ I can't count on it.
I use console and I mainly use High Explosive shells because they set ships on fire and damage their guns/engines better but it's my opinion
@@atiredfrenchfry398 I'm on a Mac. I will be sticking to HE in the future myself.
As a new player that just got his first battleship with a spotting plane when should i pop the plane. Also can i direct the plane to a specific area or have it follow a given enemy for spotting purposes?
It just increases spotting range, nothing more :)
I generally agreed with all that has been said in this video except for one point- why would you shoot AP against destroyers?? He said AP guarantees consistent damage- indeed in case of shooting at DDs it's consistently POOR damage... I'd rather say it's HE that does consistent damage- they don't tend to bounce.
can someone please tell me why there are no British aircraft carriers in this game, as the British did have carriers at the timeline the game is set.
Help me, I seem to be doing everything right. I angle as best as I can in bb's and I lead enough and aim at water line but I continually get the ribbon that shows no damage. What is going wrong
How come you could film Iowa like this without anyone shooting you in the beginning ?
what ships can get/have radar and how do you get it? if you have done a video on this plz send me the link
Have you ever tried the Japanese ship, Ise? What are your thoughts on it?
How can i get this Crosshair/sight?
Ok now I can properly use my Bismarck
How about the enemy goes to u, and u and yr too is out numbered?
You fight. You die.
1. Don't go off by yourself. Um, crossfire angles? Being off to one side even alone can be very detrimental to the enemy team. Yes, when there's an enemy cv, you are at a bigger risk of being singled out for deletion, but that's a matter for uncommon sense.
When I was a kid, it was called common sense, but I see a very distinct lack of it everywhere, so calling it uncommon sense makes more sense now.
Autobounce? Overmatch?
i lost count of many times teams i play in just decide to go seprate i mean a destoryer heading head first against 3 bb or another bb just on the edge of the map
What is autobounce?
So, what's the difference between the playstyle of the three different nations ?
Yup you don't wanna be shooting ap against broadside dds
its ok to use AP as overpen damage is significant.
i would switch to HE vs DDs after i shoot my AP, if i plan to be engaging only DDs for some time
Overall, IJN plays more a long range sniper, US plays mid-to long range support and Germans play close range.
especially the tier 7 german BB Gneisenau. Once you close to within 6-10km she really shines
well it does have torps...
Hello iChase and thank you for your videos! I always try to shoot Destroyers with HE. I will shoot AP if already loaded. And swith to HE after the 1st salvo. Is that a bad idea?
as a BB u can keep using AP actually :P
I use HE only if I'm absolutely certain I'll shoot at a destroyer next. If I know there's one coming around a corner and I have time to reload, or if it's late game where destroyers are the only ships close enough (or left at all), I load HE. Otherwise AP works just fine.
BB caliber Overpens do a crap ton of damage to DD's. If the DD goes vertical to you, you have a decent change of scoring a 33 as well, which will ruin him.
BB's with "lower" caliber guns get 33's a lot too. Scharnhorst, Dunkerque, etc.
Try to stick to AP unless the DD is rushing you. By the time you shoot your ap and reloading HE, the DD usually is gone anyway and you are stuck with he.
I never play in teams - I play for myself.
This is for mobile or pc??
Honestly, this is one of the most fun games I have ever played. Sorry I didnt look into it sooner, though my wallet is mad at me.
Really helpfull video ichase!
Thanks :D
Using Iowa. shot a Amagi 21km a citadel ( 21k damage ) without the upgrade that increases accuracy. How the heck did i do that?
My favorite too so are carriers
enemys always getting hard hits on me but(!) I dont do any damage like 2050 (Tier 7) even if its perfectlyaimed on the citadel... what is this shit?
Enemy BB offers full broadside at a range of 3km fires 3X2 16'' AP rounds into him right where the citadel is. The result is half miss and the rest bounce. I am sitting here like wtf with 30 sec reload. Enemy BB fires back and kills me while angled.
I think the biggest problem is getting bullshit teams that run off and die. Now if I were say able to have a few friends with me like the guy in this video maybe things would go differently. I have also learned that WOW is fun to watch but horrible as hell to play, even knowing all that he is talking about, likely because the youtuber picks the best matches to post online.
Lemme guess german bb?
I like this one
I disagree with AP vs Destroyers. HE shots at short range usually sinks a destroyer in one salvo ( maybe finish of with secondarys).
Am I the only one that uses a Battleship as a destroyer? I use the Kongo and it has a top speed of 30knots so I just rush in, rain hell and zip outta there. Most of the other ships miss me their first shot because they are used to slower battleships
I’m new to this game so can somebody tell me if you have to purchase higher tier ships? I’m stuck on tier three ships
varmint87 If you wanna buy tier 4 ships then go for it if you think your ready for it
Stuck on tier 3 ships? How so? You could progress through the tech tree like what you did from tier 1 to 2, 2 to 3. Ofc you will need to enough XP to research and credits to purchase the tech tree ships. Prem ships require doubloons or in some cases, free XP
that iowa game tho O_O glad i have the ship
Wo-9 is amazing at the Iowa :P pulls amazing stuff off routinely
Joeseph Hunnicutt Iowas are a joke. So easy to citadel, I love to play against them. In most games they are forced to be angled, stationary and therefore ineffective.
Damn my first game as a battleship after watching this my team spread out and I got destroyed by two destroyers and a battle ship :|
Why would you AP low armor opponents? You're gonna overpen. I use HE exclusively except against BB's
Why are the comments always full of assholes?
Thank you for the video. This is a good series.
When King George V BBs come in the game, if WG goes not give the RN some godawful Kawachi-tier dispersion, pointing the bow and shooting at people will cause butthurt on par with Nikolai I.
Never go alone never show broadsides and use your damage control wisely
I took this tutorial and went from a useless mong to a game carrier in my New Mexico...in a match against BB's like Colorado, Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, and King George...
ty
btw ichase i really like your vids but playing yamato is bb on easy mode
True, but these rules generally apply to all BBs regardless of tier, hence Iowa game after the Yamato
1 year later. This isn't true.
What is that ship at the start and I don’t mean the carrier or the Yamato but the American battleship
Cause and I quote I don’t know why but it just looks badass
The one that is shown starting around 15 seconds is a North Carolina I believe.
