10 years ago today, I rode the Vortex for the last time.
Had I known it was going to be the last time, I would have rode it a few more times that day.

Fun Fact: This ride was fabricated at the same factory that manufactures B&M coasters today.

This is not the roughest coaster I have ridden, but if Kings Island added the trains with the comfortable restraints that are used on the Blue Hawk at Six Flags Over Georgia, I truly believe this will be 10 times more enjoyable than it is now.

I rode this in 87 the first year it was open. I was 10. I was big 4 a 10 year old.
The pov was taken before crypt and windseeker, also flight commander is still standing.. so like maybe early 2000s to late 90s?
A) I think this is real lol.

guys help i fell down the stairs and can only communicate through youtube comments
because of its length, it's much better than the Ninja at Six Flags St Louis, our Six Flags park. so far it's my favorite Arrow looping coaster. the Ninja has Arrow trains (but have the large handle bars covered in foam; I like the short metal bars, the more popular version, better), it looks like Arrow track, but was actually built by Vekoma. I do like them, even though they're kind of rough. I don't mind, sometimes, until I feel hurt on my head. Arrow is no longer in business, so keep the remaining coasters, please!!
love this ride. there are rumors the cedar fair will be replacing it. if they do I hope they keep the same lay out.

+James Klatt I hope that one day people will appreciate Arrow's coasters in general, realize how pivotal they really were, and work to preserve them. Vortex should stay at Kings Island. If only people would respect them the way that they respect old wooden coasters!
I know arrow helped shape the amusement industry but this ride is a pain machine. You stick to riding this and I will be marathoning diamondback!
National Coaster News I'm sorry that you can't handle it. Whether you like it or not, Vortex is a great ride. I have never felt any pain on an Arrow coaster.
For me it was headbanging from start to finish and the whole ride starting at the drop I was dreading for it to be over. This ride I just all and all hate. The only pro I can think of is that it looks good and is fun to watch. The good arrows are Tennessee Tornado, X2, loch Ness monster, and demon. The bad ones are Unbearable. Ones like Viper, Ninja (Six Flags St. Louis), Anaconda, Vortex, Corkscrew, and dare I say, I know it started the coaster wars but it's so rough Magnum. Also there suspended coasters are fine but they are just bad.

Okay let me redo that: where I live, the kings island there has the vortex, same track as this (duh), but instead of those colors, its blue and yellow, with slight orange on the carts.

When was this filmed
I can't say for certain but given the quality of the video and the lack of key landmarks Id say it was filmed 1995ish? Sometime between 1984-1996 for sure! Since you can kind of make out the former stand up roller coaster "King Cobra" in the distance, and at 1:15 you see land clearing behind the wooden roller coaster "Racer" lift hill which is where "Flight of Fear" stands today, and opened in 1996. So I'd guess this was filmed in 1995
