Shina's and Tokyo Jihen's two decade plus catalogue of work is incomparable, from dark alternate rock, through pop and soundtracks with orchestral backing - and their live performances/concerts are always an event. Worthy inspiration to many.
I discovered this song through Sokoninaru's cover, which is great. Already loved some of her work with Tokyo Jihen, especially Killer Tune, but what blows me away about this song was that is was a World Cup anthem. That solo in a football anthem - only in Japan!
Ah the Wonderful Shiina Ringo ! Like many others I found her via the small pigeon, and what I found was so damn good ! Great songwriting, plus some really interesting changes in direction but always good to listen to, try watching Kabuki-Cho No Joou (Queen of Kabikicho) great song and there is a live version on RUclips where she looks like Audrey Hepburn as the flower seller from My Fair lady but in bright yellow shoes !, 'Irohanihoheto' (The Colours sing) very European Beatlish song so catchy in the music video plus again a live version with an orchestral arrangement, and finally try a really good live cover whilst she was in Tokyo Jihen of another Japanese band's song called 'C'm'on on lets Go' by the Barbee Boys. She is a real musical Chameleon and like Band Maid playing live is where she shines with her 'side on' to the mic stance ! You can really see why a young Miku was so enthralled !
OMG... Why is the booming noise at the end of the video *SO LOUD!* I had the to turn up volume to hear you and the song, and then the booming at the end blew out my ear drums. TWICE! You're killing, Wave. 💀 And, yeah, Shiina Ringo is cool. Feel free to check out more of her stuff. I'll be there.
I can see a young Mika going to a Shiina concert and walking out with stars in her eyes. Now she's getting there after 10 years and lots of blisters on her fingers.
She has been totally an exceptional existence in the more than 20 years since her debut, and it is rare to find a young musician who has not been influenced by her.
Sheena Ringo was scheduled to enliven the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, but a foolish ad agency has blown the event out of the water. I wish I could have seen it....
You should check out some of her Jazz stuff. Especially 'Marunouchi Sadistic', where she talks about a Rickenbacker 620. It may have influenced Miku to start with a Rickenbacker before she moved on to Zemaitis guitars.
Being a very good musician herself (she plays guitar, bass, piano, drums, percussions, melodica and tubular bells - and probably more instruments), she has always surrounded herself with the best musicians. To the point she decided to stop her solo career to form a band with her backing band, to be a musician in the band and not "Shiina and her musicians" (the band is Tokyo Jihen - or Tokyo Incidents - and it's stunning too).
Wave, you just have to react to more songs of extremely talented musician Shiina Ringo and her band Tokyo Incidents no matter if they blocked in US or not. Spread great music all over the world! 🙂
Shiina Ringo is a legend, she has such a commanding pressence on stage. Another person you might find interesting that is inspired by her is Matsuri from Hanabie. While she has many other clear inspirations like MTH she has mentioned in an interview that before even starting the band she listened to Tokyo incidents and liked Shiina's singing a lot. One of the first songs she learned on guitar was from Tokyo incidents. A band that i whole heartedly recommend, really jazzy with a nice dose of rock. Beautiful music. Also, kinda random but if you are into videogames, the character I-no from the Guilty Gear series was modeled after her.

No Shiina, No Kobato, No Band-Maid. Had Kobato not been initially inspired by Shiina as a teenager, Band-Maid as we know it today may very well not have come to pass.✌️❤️🤘
Another potential connection comes from Ringo's 'signature' song Marunouchi Sadistic and the line "Won't you buy me a Ric (Rickenbacker) to play". What brand of guitar did Miku choose as her first instrument?!
QUESTION: "Why are all the artists that are blocked in the U.S. so awesome..." ANSWER: Simple. Because the U.S. is not really a Democracy, like they tell us. The government and big business (in this case the music industry) control anything that is a threat to their ability to control the wealth around the world. Instead of stepping up to the plate and doing it better, they just block it. There are 10's of millions of Americans that have never heard of the super popular all female Japanese bands that we all love. They have been around a long time. Why is that? Read the answer again....LOL
This is beyond amazing. This song was the official song for Japan’s World Cup entrance before.
She is a living legend
World Cup 2014 song for the Japanese football (soccer) team. Jingoistic but catchy. She's so talented.
Shiina Ringo is a titan. She should be a household name everywhere on the planet.

Easy to find live DVDs - Expo 14, Expo18 Discovery and Bon Voyage. Highly recommend seeing a whole performance.
Hi, Wave. This song was composed for the 2014 Football (Soccer) World Cup in Brazil, and is a support song for the Japanese national team.
She's awesome

I believe this is the most exciting song ever in Japan singing for the sake of Hinomaru.

Thank you for standing up for ROCK, Wave.

Wave, that's the same manic grin that Shiina gives me too! Check out the live version from the Dream Festival in 2015, it's even more awesome!

日本の魂感じてくれ
Sokoninaru cover this song, with the bassist main singer with this complicated bass pattern perfectly
Yeah, Misaki is amazing.

@@Moodiac67 and not any Rickenbacker - the 620 model, that Shiina used in her Gips MV

I think that compared to overseas songs, Japanese songs are characterized by relatively many songs with a sense of speed and exhilaration.
Your first guess was correct: Nippon means Japan.

Simply... Special... a word grossly over used but not nearly enough to provide justice to the brilliance of Sheena.
So this song its created special for International Event... Like very Nationalism and Patriatic Song for the Country... Just like it hhe ...
First time Listening to her,not to bad.But for me Sena from DiH is what i call (Band Maid) Special.Imo anyway.
Tokyo Jihen.
Wow, imagine this bass master having a baby with Misa?????
