@bob1992c Thanks. I built them from scratch, all the mandrel U bends came from Magnum force racing, the 3:1 collectors came from S&S headers and the flanges came from a member on 60degreev6. They are 1 5/8" diameter, 32" long (all 6 primaries are equal length) ceramic coated in silver. I sold the headers last year, they are currently on another cammed 3500 swapped Jbody. I built another set this year when i put this engine in my Camaro however it's not on the road yet.
I had the same color 94 z24. 5 speed with a flowmaster. I just had the 3.1 with a k&n filter. It was pretty quick and surprised a lot of civic drivers lol. Only thing was every stop light someone would wanna race lol.
@pedalpunk57 you can swap a 3400 in with ease, I believe theres a few more mods required for the 3500 but the gain in hp is worth it.. not sure if the price difference is though. I'd do the top swap.. a 3400 block with 3500 intake/heads.. thats just me though.
Well can I ask why the newer 3.6 liter Impala type engines that are n/a and I believe push around 300 hp stock if correct and I was hoping could turbo or supercharge it even for me and find good MANUAL trans
@codybirchem It's a custom grind done by Delta cams about 4 yrs ago. These days the best place to get them is Wot-tech, they have a good selection of cams and a cam selection service that can help you find the right one.
@solecaliburr with a big enough cam, longtube headers and true duals you could probably get close. the gen 2- 3.1 is really hard to get decent power out of though. the heads don't flow very well and the upper/lower intakes are terrible. Most of us just swap to the gen 3 engines, the 3500 being the biggest that has been done so far. The Gen4 3900 is also an option but will require much more work to get it to run since it's a VVT engine.
i have a 1991 cavalier RS 3.1 convertable super super clean. do any RS cavaliers show up or is it Z24 only? there isnt a whole lot of difference is there? i also have an old beater 91 VL that i have just ran the snot of, oh yeah and it still runs good. going to keep that as a winter bomber, its still pretty clean underneath, i do rust stop to it. going to keep that one going as well. I LOVE 2nd gen cavaliers. great little cars and cheap to work on
Thanks for watching it! The engine was a 3500 V6 from a '04 Malibu. The bottom end was stock, the heads had a good amount of porting along with the upper and lower intake. It had a custom ground cam that was .539 in/.549 ex, 288/293 adv, 110LSA, I built equal length long tube headers for it as well. The car doesn't exist now, I have a small piece of the body on a shelf. The engine is in a Fiero somewhere and some of the other parts live on in other peoples cars. Check out WOT-Tech for 60V6 stuff for sure.
Man, hands down that is the huskiest sounding Cav I've ever heard. I assume you have a 3.5v6 judging from the video title I guess? Now I know a lot of folks on here don't like to give away their secrets because they don't like being copied but if it's cool with you I'd like the rundown on that engine. I have a mint "88 Z24 5spd sans engine I brought for $300 but I don't wanna go with the common 2.8-3.1 block. Any advice?
David Starr yeah whatever specs you got would be appreciated, i just bought a 94 and wanna build it up as much as i can but there doesnt seem to be that big of an aftermarket selection for them.
are you a member on V6Z24.com? I kept the old profile of this car up there. It has pretty much everything done to it. My username on there is SuperDave.

Man I can't help it.....I keep coming back to your video because I just love that fuckin' growl of that engine. My favorite Z of all the ones online.
That Z24 sounds like a beast.

It's a 3500 V6 from a '04 Malibu with a large cam, longtube headers and true dual exhaust.
I built the headers from scratch, whole bunch of 1 5/8" mandrel U bends, pair of 3x00 flanges and some 3:1 collectors.

Sold it to a friend in 2009 minus the engine. The engine was sold to another guy that put it in a Fiero. Lost track of it after that.
