  • Wanted to show that sometimes, this hobby can be a real PITA. ^^
Just recently, I got a few new modules and decided to rearrange the whole rack while I was at it installing them.
After spending about 4 hours straight, first planning the arrangement on ModularGrid and finally installing everything , I noticed some strange behaviour with some of the modules in the bottom two rows. The 4ms Quad Clock Distributor was particularly obvious - its LEDs were stuck on, and it wasn't accepting or outputting any clock signals.
I started unscrewing each module, trying to pinpoint the culprit. Miraculously, everything seemed fine once I had them all out. So, I began reinstalling them one by one. WOOHOO! Problem solved!
I screwed them all back in place. But when I powered up the synthesizer again - TADAA - same old problem. \o/
    sigh
So, out with all the modules again and start measuring. Of course, the battery in my voltmeter died in the process. I gave up for the day and went to bed, utterly defeated.
The next day, after another hour and a half of screwing, head scratching and measuring, I finally found the issue. A bloody single strand of the -12V wire had caused a short with the adjacent wire in the busboard cabling, causing the fault protection of the power supply to switch off the -12V rail. m(
Decent a rollercoaster ride I could have done without....
But the first jam with the new system (which you're listening to right now) immediately made up for all the crap of the last two days and gave me back a little confidence that I hadn't chosen the completely wrong hobby. ;D
Thanks again to Arjan from 2manysynths.nl who was super quick to help, even outside business hours, and pointed me in the right direction, enabling me to solve the problem myself. :)
