Our Dualtron Thunder 3 full written review: freshlycharged.com/the-dualtr...
The Dualtron Thunder 3 is the latest and greatest iteration of an already legendary electric scooter. Packed with an array of impressive features, from stunning lights to a cutting-edge EY4 display, this scooter is a dream come true for Dualtron enthusiasts.
In this review, we unbox, set up, walkthrough, take it for a spin, perform a top-speed test, and tell you what we love and hate about the Dualtron Thunder 3.
Disclosure: We were not paid to do this review, but MiniMotors USA sent us this scooter to test and review. Purchases made through our affiliate links may offer a commission that goes towards supporting this channel and our websites.

That 0-60 time.... What the hell.😅
Thing is a beast.
i somehow stumbled on the electric scooters on youtube when researching electric bikes to buy, but man after just few scooter videos i realised the scooter scene is much more insane than the e bikes can ever be
Not true. Surrons and Talarias exist. But I do admit the faster escooters are kinda cool
Nah the scooters are way more fun and convenient. I have both and the bike is more for exercise that can get me somewhere.
@calvin3448 the same speed on a scooter is way more thrilling than an ebike just because of the design differences between them.
when my ebike was stolen i grabbed a scooter and i prefer a road bike and electric scooter...no need for a heavy fucking bike especially in an apartment with stairs.
Thanks guys I been waiting for this I had mine seem forever I value your opinion I feel better now thanks again.
One of my dream scooter.. Hope to have one someday. Always enjoy watching your reviews on high electric scooter.
this was a great review thank you for getting to the thunder 3. some love for this scooter was needed
Thanks for watching!
love your videos and comparing the acceleration data so accurately and consistently! So awesome guys. I can't wait to see how the new emove roadster does!
FINALLYY, Something I can rely on for a review in Dualtron Thunder 3 😍
A lot to like about the updated design. Particularly appreciate that they retain folding handlebars, very useful in apartment living and car transport, while still integrating a great display in the middle. Nice. Upgraded charger a must.
Totally agree!
You guys are awesome. Excellent review.
Finally a decent review of the Thunder 3
Thanks for the kind words!
In English and in USA finally
Wow, what a machine! At that speed I would wear full motorcycle gear. I can't wrap my head around how fast it is and how it accelerates.
You and me both! Wear your safety gear!
You think that one is fast. take a look at the Emove roadster at 80mph
I think my Thunder 3 is quicker than my X Limited
Just subbed for the professional speed testing. 👍
I’m still rocking my thunder 1. It’s solid as hell
I like how the front tire comes off the ground of the Thunder 3 when you sweeze the trottle 💪🏾
Been waiting for this, thanks!
Thanks for tuning in!
What a mighty video you guys are awsome love it 👍🏽
I've pre-orderd mine. Can't wait to try it out!
It’s awesome!
It's a beast. Love mine
Scooter is dope af! I personally can’t ride a single stem scooter again after going to dual stem but the thunder 3 is beast
You had me at TURBO BUTTON!!
As a retired ex-Pat in the Philippines, I luv this scooter. I take it everywhere and have no issues running the battery out. I also run in ECO mode a lot and the throttle is not jearky. You dont even need the app to use ECO mode just tap the display. The T-3 is a beast yet it's great in heavy traffic.
*_Finally a great review, thanks to y’all. Dualtron finally fixed the squeaky noises_* 🙌🏽🕺🏽
The squeak is gone!
I need this in my life, NOW!
Got this way back in August 2023, damn thing is a beast!! I've been waiting for reviews for so long. I LOVE this thing. I do prefer the suspension of the Nami Burn-E 2 Max, and the throttle is smoother, but this thing beats the Burn-E in probably every other way.
VERY GOOD REVIEW GUYS !!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
I really like that the dualtron thunder 3 has a new safety feature which prevents accidental acceleration when the scooter is stopped.
a similar safety feature on all micro mobility scooters would help improve safety to a great degree.
Can't wait for y'all to review The Teverun 7260R one day
Me too!
"Jimmy is a sinewave snob" 😂
...so am I Jimmy!
Finally I got mine Monday it's super powerful
Yes!
Nice review. Best review I have seen of the Thunder 3. Now I would love to see a Teverun Fighter Supreme 7260R review from you guys.
Thanks for the support! We are expecting the 7260R at the end of November. They have upgraded some components on it so we are waiting for the most updated version.
Your reviews are top notch! One thing id like to see, or hear is more info on the battery. You do size , voltage/ amperage, but manufacturer would be key. I have purchased a scooter with a cheep Chinese battery and have had nothing but disappointment.
That's sick. I have a Dualtron City... but looking at one of these pretty hard. The fact that it can be ridden in the elements is also a huge plus for me.
The thunder 3 is a beast. I've rode in pouring rain. No problems
@@hyperchairwillis Any stem noise? My City's stem makes so much noise no matter what I (and the local dualtron shop) do. Hoping the new clip mechanism puts an end to that.
@@JRMillion the stem is solid. Haven't heard any creaks or any noises
@@hyperchairwillis thanks for replying. Appreciate it
I'm looking to buy a dualtron city is it worth it?
Finally guys i was wondering when u were gona bless us with this review. 😅
Sorry it took so long.
Will wait for the dualtron iv
Nice review! Ill add my experience after 3 months of very hard riding. 10 seconds on turbo, not 5. Power will also completely cut for 5 seconds after full throttle for 10. If you let off for a spit second before 10, it won't do it. Turbo works best at 45 plus, I like to hit it around 50ish and blast past 60. It weighs 117lbs, not 126. I put mine on a calibrated shipping scale at work. I weigh 180lbs, I've hit 66mph gps on a crappy bumpy road. Still have not done an actual speed run but i dont think it has much left maybe 1 2 3 mph on max charge. It's EXTREMELY stable at speeds. 45mph is just chilling with this thing, it's very planted and not sketchy til 60ish and then its only bc turbulence from no aero. If you don't have easy start on, it will just roast the front tire or lift it and try to pull out from under you. It's not for everyone, it's a rowdy machine. This isnt for soft boys, this is a man's machine. Anyways I've been bashing the hell out of mine, 7 miles straight max speed, jumps, wheelies, endos, slamming on brakes, offroading, bombing turns. Only real warning is be aware it's an animal, and always do a once over on all nuts and bolts, my damper came loose and I got the wobbles at 50mph. Nothing has broke in over 300 miles, which are like 3000 to normal people lol.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I have not had it cut out on me after holding onto the throttle for 10 seconds after hitting the turbo button. I wonder if it is because you are hitting it at a higher speed. I will have to try hitting to the turbo button at a higher top speed and see if I run into the same issue.
I would love to see a review on Dualtron storm limited new edition 2024. Love your reviews on E scooters.
The secret to square wave is that they always and I mean ALWAYS overbuild the power stages in comparison to sine wave stuff, they tend to skimp on the fets and drive them as hard as they can, also one of the most common ways a sine wave dies is from a short in the halls, its a 30c chip that needs replacing but you cant get the board repair done by the manufacturer, they always just do a whole controller swap instead.
The ev space is incredibly wasteful at the moment and really needs some good repair techs with the knowledge willing to do the cheaper repairs.
Very good insight. Thanks for sharing.
More than that. FETs have to work a lot harder for sine wave because they are running in linear mode. The FETs to provide the same power in sine wave mode are wasting power to get that wave shape and all that power is heat. FETs for sine wave need to handle a lot more power than for square wave. However, there is no reason square wave controllers need to be on/off. Industrial "soft start" modules are all square wave and are as smooth as anything else. Yes it does take a little more circuitry... but I expect it would not be hard do a smooth square wave merely by changing one chip (if that chip exists right now is another question :) ) and then not need two modes. FETs (or any transistor... or even tubes for that matter) dissipate the least power in non-linear mode, that is when working as a switch. This is why switching power supplies and class D amplifiers (both are square wave devices) can be so small and efficient. So the real answer is: Square wave controllers are better but more development needed.
Stock controllers suck no matter if its Square or Sine Wave...and as far as aftermarket controllers go ASI contollers have a wreid formfactor and i got stranded with a bricked BAC2000 once so ill never buy another ASI controller, Kelly is okay but no Fancy features, VESC is good but has some wreid limitations like throttle input voltage, so i run Nucular 24F controllers on my PEV,s ,easily the best platform i have used, no more worries about burnt or briked controllers and no compromises...
@-joo3033 ASI doesnt come stock in very many things and can be considered quite an upgrade over what I would consider a "stock" controller (you know, no name silver boxes crammed with re-re-reconditioned phases)
Honestly sounds like youve too much money with what youre playing with, get a YKK square wave and be done.
Nucular's have their own issues and are based on the ASI's you hate so much anyways.
@@lenwhatever4187 Square wave EV controllers do have soft start functions, you just gotta stay away from Dragon scooters for that, like the new Thunder here, you did manage to elaborate quite a bit on the "Sine wave drives the fets as hard as they can" a fair bit there, you're not wrong, but dont forget linear fetts and the fets used in square wave are different types of fets too, linear's are designed to do it, it's just that sine waves like to push the absolute maximum.
For eg, in a Wolf 11+ they use 140a fets on each phase when they only use 100-120a of the output at best before they have a wheel lockout event happen (wheel cogs due to not having enough torque for the load/resistance at this point)
But sine wave stuff will run a linear 140a fet at 140a and then try to push even further while sweeping the sine wave, Any chance of bleeding voltage (nicked phases next to eachother) can cause a severe short across the two fets running in push and pull and blow open the entire power phase too, so its paramount that you actually use glue backed thick heatshrink when patching up any phase wire insulation, the current and voltage flying around at speed have the ability to ark great distances and cause some serious wacky shit.
Hybrid esc have been my favourite so far (falls back to square wave when the halls die instead of self imploding) -My cheap ass Chinese scoot has this function, saved my ass more times than I care to admit. Slows you down a bit but gives some great towing torque while the front motor is still in sine wave mode. (I tow a trailer on the daily)
The sine wave mode isnt the most powerful, but thats only because the acceleration is super smooth, the top end is where it shines best if you ask me. Id still prefer a high voltage vesc, considering they can run BLDC and FOC sensorless or sensored with no issues on the fly, just do your homework and put some fuses on the 5 and 3.3v power lines before the hall chips and other peripherals and they'll last a lifetime.
Still cant go past the big ass YKK 4kw square wave boxes, theyre too big but if you want to be doing smoke shows on both wheels from 0 -100, that's what you want.
most people in my area just bought used thunder 1 and added vesc controllers, not so many thunder 3 on the road here
I have One and It’s mind blowing👍🏻👍🏻
Perfect👍🏻
Love it!
I is the locking latch spring loaded for when you fold the steering stem down? I'm getting an Ultra 2 Upgraded in about 3 weeks n just wondered if its spring loaded so it doesn't come undone accidentally 🤘🏼😜👍🏼
I wonder if you guys can get your hands on the Yume osprey this would be a great performance test
What are your thoughts on the floatwheel?
What height from deck to steering? Vertically?
NICE
Awesome video!! How is the Thunder 3 compared to the X Limited?
We will make a short racing them.
Great review 😊
Storm LTD or Thunder III please ?
Is the turbo button just field weakening?
13:11 Now WAIT A DAMN MINUTE young man!!!!
Getting up there in power ! 10KW for a scooter ?
What is the realworld range on this? Is it comparable to thr dualtron x limited?
If you could purchase just one, would you get the InMotion RS or the Dualtron Thunder 3?
Hey what helmets are you wearing in this video
as a thunder 2 owner, it looks like they fixed everything that irritates me with my scoot. no stem noises or wobble wider handle bars cool lookin display all in all they got it right this time. i own both a kaabo and a dualtron and the build quality on the dualtron is better in my opinion. 4 years from now i plan still being able to use my scoot. my have to save up and get the thunder 3
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, i here you mentioned you burned out your controller on your gtr,i have the gtr its my first scooter is there away to prevent the sinwave controller from burning out so fast,i always ride in 5th gear duel motors
Oh, nice! The performance specs and battery info are similar to the Inmotion RS. 😎👌
They are similar. The Thunder 3 does feel more stable at high speed.
i have come to appreciate rock solid stability in scooter design for high speed runs. one of the most uncomfortable feelings is when the scooter feels unstable at high speeds. those days are over for me. i love rock solid stability!
Is the controller where the noise comes from? If so, is that a characteristic of square wave controllers? Thanks. Great video and very nice scooter. 🤘👍
The sound is from the square wave controllers of Dualtron paired with their motors.
wow, looks like a well built machine
It is!
The thunder 3 is a beast. Got mine in july. Have almost 1200 miles on it 🦽💨
Just ordered mine
I wanted to order one too but they don't have a seat option which sucks. I don't want to be forced to stand for 30 40 Miles or more of riding. So I just ordered the OutStorm Maxx pro 3 instead
@lexxzus riding on a seat with a scooter is a little sketch. Either way I hope you enjoy the maxfun man
Hi guys , still waiting for you guys to make a full review of the Thunder 3 ? 😅
Can you turn the safe mode off via the app? I'd hope so because that would drive me insane.
For those who aren't mechanically inclined, how do you handle servicing your scooters, such as brake replacements or other technical maintenance? I'm curious because this will influence my decision with the model that I'm going to pick.
What is the use case for this? Just fun?
Hey guys I need a range test for realistic riding. Maintain 25-30mph whole time with burst of random full speed and hard pulls. 😅 I’m torn between this and the wolf king gtr and Inmotion rs. Which ever one of these 3 scooters has the longest tested true range im getting. 😊
Sup Andrew, how would u compare the acceleration to d3 vs nami burn e max
How did u put the proximity lock on your phone
Is there another charger u guys used for the electric scooter?
Ok I want one now lol
My settings: P2=3, P3=1, P5=3, P6=100, P9=0. These settings are my optimals. When I ride in a crowded area, I turn on ECO feature. The scooter then rides like a charm. Turning the ECO ON or OFF is done bu simply long pressing the middle button on the display.
I ha e victor and I would miss that button if I get thunder 3 it was the fastest way to lower power when I was on sidewalk or between people and when a jump on road just push it once without my hand leaving handlebars
Dualtron 3 or Inmotion RS?
It seems like the Rovoron kullter was the beta test scooter for all these new build improvements. Anyone else see the similarities?
"Teverun and Dualtron have now combined forces" is wrong. Teverun was STARTED by Blade and Minimotors (the owner of the Dualtron brand). It is a much better folding mech than previous generations. And nice that they finally have an IP rating.
i'll take one!
Yes sir!
Definitely based on Teverun Fighter Supreme and very similar design they just took some time and development first before they release this Thunder 3. Hoping you can review the new Teverun Fighter Supreme 7260R edition
That should be coming at the end of November to review.
Will you do a Dualtron Victor Luxury + video?
There's probably less heating in the MOSFETs compared to a sine wave. Does anyone know if they make knobby tires for these things that would be good offroad like dirt bike tires?
What charging port is on it cause I’m playing to buy one but I want to buy a fast charger too
I am waiting for the review of the storm limited
What kind of Helmets do you guys have?
What was the range? Like? How many miles or kilometres do you get on a full battery?
How is that possible that my Dualtron Ultra 2 tops out at 62mph without the turbo button u barely hit 62mph the ultra 2 is so underrated and it only has 6,640w u know u guys tested it i weight 150lb maybe thats why
Please review the new Nami Burn E-3 Max
919 miles on my Nami, never had single issue with a controller, and ive gone for 2 hour and more rides
NAMI doesn't have solid tires . They don't have non flat liners or puncture resistant
@@mikefox181 Nope they dont but you can sure add a run flat tire, nami is better hands down.
Hi picked up a Thunder 3 last night I ordered from
a NYC shop, charged it all night & wanted to lift
stem to find metal part that hold silver locking
pins & set screws missing metal on both sides,
does Minimotors have a return policy, this looks
extremely dangerous???
💯‼️💙
What we need is an 84V (96V peak) Thunder 4 with the T2 suspension.
What inflator are y’all using for tires?
Ryobi
Are you able to turn the lights off
i spoke with tripple A auto club membership and they said i can insure my scooter under renters insurance. which is a yearly fee, and covers the scooter if someone takes it. including when locked up outdoors, at school, or while traveling. please confirm this for yourself but this is what tripple a auto club membership explained to me. because i asked them how can i insure my scooter. however this may not be the kind of insurance the letter that you are reading is referring to.
would love a range test on this at higher speeds, i am thinking 100 mile max but full speed more like 40-50 miles
I will be doing a first person view video of a range test for the Thunder 3
@@Andrew-vt4jt great thanks! :)
My Achilleus still gets pretty good range even when whomping the throttle. I havent calculated it but unless youre trying to do a 100km run, youll be fine.
When turned all the way up and driving all out I get around 50ish miles. Turned down and taking it easy. It would go at least 60 to 70 miles . Maybe more. Love my thunder3
Could this be it? Is it, "the one"?? This might be the fastest scoot out right now. Plus a 105 MILE range?!?!? The ONLY con I've found so far is the suspension, weight, and the tires. Maybe do a Nami Burn E 2 max vs the Dualtron Thunder 3 vs the Kabo Wolf King GT Pro video. I know we'd all like to see it.
It would be "The One" with an IPV6 rating.
Square wave controllers and 1.4a charger in 2023 is unacceptable.
square wave is more reliable, and the 1.4 amp charger is better for battery longevity. you can get a faster charger but will decrease the battery life sooner. i had over 1000 miles on my dualtron thunder 2 and never had any issues
@@TriggK4T Square wave is neither more reliable or less reliable, it's old and inefficient tech. Charging more than 1.4a will have no effect on battery life, charging speeds don't matter as long as they're in spec (and these batteries can take over 10amps if the BMS didn't resirect the charging current). What effects battery life is heat and I can assure you these battery packs won't be stressed even at 10amps.
Dualtron is just using old tech with new tech prices and getting away with it because people keep supporting it.
What is best this or Storm limited could you do a video of comparing them?🙏 because i had the storm limited but i didnt like it that much and i have ordered the thunder 3 so is the thunder 3 better?
I like the Thunder 3 much better over the storm limited. I have ridden a storm limited but don’t own one. The Thunder rides a lot better.
@@Andrew-vt4jt 👍👍 i think the Thunder 3 will be better aswell i have only ridden the Thunder 2 in the Thunder class and that was very powerfull but i think the Thunder 3 will be much better and i have changed the storm limited for the thunder 3 so i hope its better but i think it will most likely be better than my Storm ltd🙂
Where i can buy? How much?
Would have loved to buy one of them. the only reason I can't see myself ever getting 1 it's because they don't offer seat options for it. What about people who can't stand for long durations. Or for people who just don't wanna stand for 30 40 miles of riding
there are 2 charging ports 😊
(but 1,4A ? 😟)
I hope you will do test Teverun fighter supreme 7260R
We should be getting it at the end of November.
@@Andrew-vt4jt that's amazing! Will be awesome to see your review on that beast.
I do not recommend my actions.
i purchased a variable voltage, variable current “roger charger” and charged my 40amp hour dualtron thunder 2 in 1.5hours at 25amps (i monitored battery temp closely) i realize this can reduce battery cycle life.
i accept this.
its so nice to charge from ev charging stations (i use the alien rides j1772 to 5-15 charge plug adapter).
Im late to watching this video but I realized I shouldve watched it sooner to be informed about SINEWAVE vs SQUAREWAVE. Do you mean that these sinewave scooters have a shorter life so if youre looking for a speedy scooter it HAS to be a square wave?
How do you both afford these?
I love your videos, i bought my onewheel because of this channel. I've been doing research, and the helmets you guys are using are not rated for the speeds you're doing. You are normally really awesome at demonstrating safety. I am worried for you both when you get scooters like these without the appropriate safety gear. Just a little thing that's been niggling me.
Thanks. Appreciate the concern. We have motorcycle helmets but they make recording a lot harder fora number of reasons so we continue to use the Predator helmets. Predator is working on a DOT approved helmet for us so we can be safer… but we just need to be patient and careful until then.
I think it’s fine. It’s similar speeds downhill skateboards reach and that community uses these helmets.
