Scott is like a good wine: the older the better: the sound, the phrasé... there have been so many excellent recordings in the last 5/10 years! Definitely my favorite sax player.
Scott Hamilton is so important to the history of the tenor sax. His playing is like a repository of the great players of the past like Lester Young, but he infuses his own warmth and brilliance to keep it fresh and vibrant.
Have been following Scott when he played/recorded, with the John Bunch group, on the - Famous Door - label. Then followed the prolific Concord label years. Saw Scott live only a few times, during the 70’s in Holland and in the early 90’s in Brisbane. As someone mentioned before he’s getting better and better like (excellent) aged wine. Lovely soft swingin’ Jazz by this very enjoyable quintet.with some beautiful tunes. Enjoy & Cheers!
