Why are we so convinced Fierceness is really this jackal and Hyde horse. Aaron even said he often throws out the derby if a horse ran poorly. Let's also throw out loses from his 2yo season, which he won 2yo of the year anyway, his only other loss was 1s off a long layoff. His Florida Derby was probably the most dominant race any 3yo has run. Then he's won 2 in a row with Jim Dandy and Travers. So his only loses would be 1st start of 3yo season off layoff, the Kentucky Derby, and maybe the BC Classic. I don't think he needs to win the Classic to win 3yo of the year. Being at Delmar without a ton of speed in the field I can see him lay a clunker in that race even if he's not his best. Only way he loses 3yo of the year is if Seize the Grey wins the classic IMO

Surprise to hear the high ranking for 3 year olds of Fierceness, who seems to have to get the trip to win. That is, it is highly unlikely if, Fierceness hooks up with a distance runner that can carry speed, that he will win the Classic. If Seize the Grey or another speed horse runs and takes on Fierceness, all three most likely will be passed. Question if Fierceness is a true distance runner; his dam is a sprinter. He never won a Triple Crown race; his two Grade Is are not equal to winning a Triple Crown race; the Travers is not at the level of a Triple Crown race; this is not a Quadruple Crown.
Fierceness, like Newgate, is lightly raced, both have run only 5 times. He was hard pressed to beat the filly Anna Thorpedo. Seize the Grey, who has run 8 times this year, with two Grade Is and a Grade II and Dornoch, who has run 6 times, with two Grade Is and a Grade II, have superior records; and each has won a Triple Crown race. Fierceness can win the Eclipse only if he wins the Classic. If he is healthy, Forever Young, most likely will place ahead of the other three year olds. Interested to see if they even run Fierceness in the Classic. His record has been uneven; he lost to Hades in a Grade III and after losing the Kentucky Derby, he did not run in the Preakness or Belmont.
