@@angeldust7777 Bonsoir, je voulais avoir votre avis sur le Roland F701 qui est moins cher de 1000 euros par rapport au DP603, est-ce que ce DP603 justifie vraiment cette différence de prix. Merci
It took weeks of deciding, but thanks in part to this review, and testing it in person, I just purchased the DP-603 and it's on the way. This guy is probably the best piano reviewer on youtube because of his candor and the amount of detail on features that's important for any pianist.
Hi Louisa, I am from Hong Kong too! Did you at last buy this piano? I am still thinking of it. I think it saves lots of space. But do you know any difference between 603 and 603PE in sound quality? Some say the shiny material with 603PE gives bettwr sound, but costing several thousand dollars more.
@@solouisa9572 I just visited there last week! They with with only one 603PE left!! I don't know if this 焗漆面 sounds better or not, or just the same with 603. In Parsons, the 603 PE costs $21000 for sale.
@@idamusicworld I see. I don't think there's any difference in their sounds. Just the case is different. And i think the case is too small to justify a higher price. Undoubtedly it takes up a lot less space in my home and i didn't regret buying it. You might like to compare other options to see if it's the best choice for you.
I really wonder why DP603 has been one of the favorites since 2016 and it still costs more than the latest RP/F701… I know they’re different grades but given that it’s an older engine and technology, what makes DP603 so highly rated up until now?
The rp and f 701 have a worse action and piano engine the roland f 701 and rp701 have the supernatural piano this engine is sample based and then they add synthesized parameters vs the dp 603 that has the supernatural modeling which has no samples and it has limitless polyphony. Also the dp 603 has better speakers and more features
Heureusement sinon vu le prix des acoustiques en rapport aux numériques ils en vendrait plus, l'avantage c'est le prix, pas d'accord à faire, la place, les sons nombreux .
The DP603 is an excellent piano! I have not heard any news from Roland in terms of updating the model. It still holds up as an excellent value buy in 2023 in my opinion. :)
A comparison of this to the CLPs would be really helpful, there seems to be a lot of ping pong between the advantages and disadvantages of each kind, like how does the modeling compare to Yamahas VRM feature and is that achievable in the piano designer from roland? Also for a similar price one has the cabinet the other does not. I see that theres one for the hp704 but a cross brand comparison between the design/engineering philosophies of the two similar models from two similar companies, would help a lot.
I've been keeping an eye on this model (and other models) for a long time, and I was wondering... why the prices of digital pianos have such big oscillations? Sometimes they suddenly go 300$ higher or even more. This model's cost had a similar spike in April, at least in the UK.
Hmm that is interesting to hear! We have not seen the same fluctuation here in Canada. There have been periodic sales events from Roland Canada on select models, but that is about it.
Thanks again for going the PHA4 and PHA50. I've had 2 grand pianos, uprights etc. And a Roland HP330. Gig with spring key Roland, korg and alesis. So replacing my HP, I think I might like the new PHA50. Unfortunately there are no local dealers to try them out. I will have to travel some distance and hope to find some to check how. Thanks again
Sorry late reply the fp90x has the new sound chip with a brand new engine and it has four speakers facing at you you have to try them both to see if you like one better over the other
Thanks for review, but main issue for piano players is the action and its connection with sound engine. How you compare it with Casio GP 510? Thank you
Great review, Stu! On paper this is the perfect fit for me, although being such an old model makes me doubt about pulling the trigger now in late 2024. The 10 year warranty is reassuring, but it's hard not to expect Roland to embed all their new innovation in a similar cabinet. Am I wrong? Any advise here?
Hi! Brent here! Thanks for the question! As of this moment, we have not received any word from Roland regarding an update to the DP603. So, we are not sure when a replacement model will be announced/released. With that said, the DP603 still holds up as an amazing piano with great value! :)
love your reviews. subscribed too. in the video you mention there is a mic line-in. does that mean i can connect a miccrophone and sing along while i play, using the speaker system on the piano?
how does it compare to the hp704? is the dp 603 a "compact design" edition of the hp 704 or is this close to the lx 705(which has the new chip for soundmodelling and the 704 has the old one)
Hi Stu, in this instrument when you turn the volume to highest level, how do you compare with the sound volume of an acoustic of different models? Thank you !!!
It really depends on which type of acoustic piano you are looking to emulate. Smaller console acoustic uprights will be much quieter than say a concert grand piano. For the optimal sonic experience, I recommend playing at around 60% or above.
I've had this piano for a while now. And I myself don't understand why it's so good. The keys are sooooooo heavy or is that just me? I can't seem to play fast pieces without getting tired quick. I don't have this issue on accoustic piano's. Recording on this thing also has flaws for me. The effects like ambience don't get added when you record to mp3. The only other recording option is midi.....
I am sorry to hear you are not enjoying the DP603. It is true that the PHA50 action is quite heavy. However, with that said, heavier actions are more akin to the feel of a concert grand piano with long key sticks. If you'd like to have a lighter feel, you can change the touch sensitivity accordingly. If you're taking a line out feed from the tone engine, you should be capturing all of the ambience and effect settings. With that said, MIDI recording will not capture these details of course.
@@MerriamPianos The sensitivity only changes the maximum press strength and makes it lighter. The minimum weight stays the same so it makes no difference. I've played on concert grands before and they play waaay lighter but a electric piani is ofc not going to perfectly resemble a real grand. For the recording I mean that if you record audio (which is a setting you can change) the piano doesn't record the sound you hear but the base sample which sounds bad on it's own. Ofc you can use a line output but thats just a haste because for my audio interface Ill need 2 outouts one left and one right to make it sounds atleast fine. This has been just personal experience though I do understand that other people may like it. The piano does look very nice and the sound is somewhat okay. The keys are just not it for me.
Hi there! It is a matter of personal preference, but I am personally a bigger fan of the DP603. The PHA50 action is remarkable and I love the streamlined cabinet/aesthetic of the DP603 model.
@@MerriamPianos Thank you for your reply. It's strange because in Europe the Roland HP-704 is less expensive than the DP-603 even though it is more recent. Do you think it is better to take the HP-704?
Hi there! Unfortunately, the DP603 does not have a microphone input. With that said, the Roland FP90X (portable digital piano) does and it has a lot of parallel specs to the DP603. :)
But...PHA 50 is heavier then PHA 4? Because I tried Kaway GF Compact on a CA49 and for me it is awesome compared to the PHA-4 because this last one is too havy, so if PHA-50 is heavier than PHA 4 I know that I have to avoid Roland...
The Kawai models tend to have slightly lighter actions than the comparable Roland models. So, with that said, if you felt that the PHA-4 and PHA-50 actions were too heavy for your preferences, the Kawai models are definitely worth exploring. :)
@@MerriamPianos Thank you very much! I never tried PHA 50 but PHA 4 only and it is too heavy for me. Kaway's always are almost perfect for.me but I would like to try the PHA 50 because I think to accept a little more weight, it depends how much 🙂

Just ordered mine. I had a bigger LX706 and gave to my niece when she got more serious. With my smaller place this will be perfect. And love the look.
