@Forret the Mapper Ah yes, I actually remember something about that. What happened to the previous Portuguese monarchs before the personal union, assuming there were any?
@@hispanicyoutubeperson6100 There were many and they did not have enough heirs that lived, the penultimate one was killed in war with the Moroccans and the last one was a Cardinal.
@Forret the Mapper You know, I coincidentally read about the Portuguese kings the other day. Apparently, Braganza is actually a cadet branch (of maybe Aviz) and you might me missing one more. The Portuguese Queen, Maria II, had the throne passed to heir descendants, and since the throne went to the next heir in the form of cognatic descent, that would mean that the descendants of Maria wouldn’t have belonged to her house, right? Well, unless she married a cousin or another uncle (but that didn’t work out with uncle Manual).
@Forret the Mapper I read that the last king of Portugal was her great-grandson, but I am no expert on the Portuguese monarchs, so I can’t say for sure if it was talking about this specific Maria or not
The 5th image is The Battle of Wadi al-Makhazin or the Battle of the Three Kings is a battle that took place between the Far Maghreb and Portugal on Jumada al-Thani 30 986 AH, August 4, 1578 AD. The matter developed from a power dispute between Muhammad al-Mutawakkil and Sultan Abu Marwan Abd al-Malik to a war with Portugal led by King Sebastian, who tried to carry out a crusade to control all the beaches of Morocco, so that the Moroccan state, with the help of the Ottomans, would not return the ball to Andalusia. The Moroccans won, and the Portuguese Empire lost in this battle its sovereignty, king, army and many statesmen, and only one person remained from the royal family, then the Portuguese Empire returned after 93 years of the rule of Spain over it.
Usually these videos have the Nation as it is Modern day right? So shouldn’t the islands be coloured in (Azores, Madeira) but anyway loved the video Portugal da best
No, during the Iberian union the brazilian bandeirantes started expanding deeper in the continent cause Portugal and Spain had the same king during that time, the treaty of Tordesilhas never was the actual borders of the colonies
It would be perfect if it wouldn’t zoom out and it would stay on European Portugal all the time (same borders in Europe, but different on other continents which we wouldn’t see)

Don’t forget, Portugal, using it’s island territories in the Atlantic are planning on creating and connecting 2 large Islands to effectively double their territory.
Hello author! You make awesome vidos thanks! I am from Russia and I have an idea for a video and I would really like you to implement it! the idea is this, the video format is the same as this video under which I am writing this comment, but for the place of this country you need to show the quasi-states "Islamic State" and at the end of the video with a big sound show on the map the dimensions of the Ommeyad Caliphate with a loud sound, if you do that video it will be cool!
