My mum used to make these, she called them “potato fritters”. Love your shorts. Thanks for the video.
Very nice😋 Here in the West of Germany, the potato pancake is called “Kartoffelpuffer ” or "Reibekuchen" depending on the region. As a child, I loved them very much and they are still special to me. We always eat apple puree with it. That is why we also say “heaven and earth. ” Because the potatoes grow in the ground and the apples grow high up in the tree. If I had the choice between a pizza and a potato pancake, I would always choose the Kartoffelpuffer. You can eat them sweet, so with apple puree or rather hearty with grated onions in the dough.
Delicious, thanks for sharing...
wow, it's interesting combination🥰Thank you for your comment!
yep love them with apple sauce with a touch of cinnamon.
If you lived in New Jersey you'd choose the pizza! Lol, the apple sauce is divine
@Mr. Cool Both!
Up there in Sweden, they have some sweet-ish kinda bread and have it with sausages like salami. Funny, how this is a thing in so many regions. Like the german combination of pears, green beans and pork. "Birnen, Bohnen und Speck."
And it can be delicious.
My grampa made these when I was little. He put steak pieces in them. It has been 50 years and I still recall how they tasted. Thanks for bringing back good memories, young lady.
My mom used left over mashed potatoes. Added green peppers, onions, black pepper, sometimes carrots. Steak would be awesome too. man... I love them with pinto beans and fried fish.
Whenever I watch your amazing videos I get instant hunger
I love Draniki! I’ve eaten it several during my times when I had been in Ukraine - years ago. One of my Ukrainian friends gave me his recipe and I brought it back to America and made it several times, although it’s been several years since I have. They are so good. And they really are easy to make.
I love the sun
This is the recipe I’ve been looking for. I grew up eating potatoe pancakes as a child(68 now) and I’ve been missing them big time! Than you so much for this!
ruclips.net/video/hX_lh5WqGT0/видео.html
We had these when I was a boy in the 60’s. My father had them when he was a boy, but he didn’t want to grate all those potatoes, so he used a blender. They were excellent. He said be generous with the cooking oil and cook them at a high temp- 375 F.
My wife and I made these Potato Pancakes today for the first time. They were DELICIOUS!! Many thanks to you Luba and lots of love from Australia.
Try them with sour cream! Mmmmm

Growing up, our mother used to make potato pancakes for dinner. She was Ukrainian and learned from her mother. I’ll have to make this for my family. Thank you for sharing.
Love the cat sitting so politely at the table watching and hoping!
Made these today for the first time ever, very delicious! 🙂 Took a bit longer than 10 minutes though.
Thanks and stay strong there Ukraine!

I've never had potato pancakes but those look really good. Thanks for sharing your recipe Luba
You did such a good job on this video - perfectly demonstrated and you provided the ingredient measurements. I didn't know that onion juice prevents the potatoes from turning brown. Great tip!
Wow! What a very nice, genuine, real fact & ever memorable, great motivational compliment.
Those remind me of what my mom used to make when she had left over mashed potatoes. If I had known they were that
easy I would've been making them all along. Thank you for enlightening me, now I can make them from time to time. 👍
ruclips.net/video/hX_lh5WqGT0/видео.html
My grandmother always made these for me. Now as an adult I love making them. They are also delicious with apple sauce.
Dear Luba, thank you for your clear and helpful tuition videos, for showing us a glimpse of normality in what must be a very difficult time, and for reinforcing that braless is best (not meant in any dodgy way, it's much more healthy, but many are afraid to try for some reason). May you have every success, and may peace return to your land very soon.
Love your cooking videos. I'm up until years and need all the help I can get for simple Recipes. Thank you so much. ❤
I'll have to give this recipe a try. Similar though in some ways very different to a recipe I grew up with & still make regularly today.
I grate new potatoes though I don't add anything else. I pour in a generous amount of sunflower oil, of course, & then fill a medium size pan covering the whole pan about 15 mm thick. The pan is quite hot when I first start then a minute into cooking I turn the heat down just below medium and cook uncovered for approx 6 minutes each side until crispy golden brown. Cooking uncovered the water steams out leaving the outside crispy and the inside soft and moist like proper twice cooked British chips.
By not adding any other ingredients you can then top it sweet or savoury .
Just like my Ukrainian grandmother used to make! Thanks for the recipe I didn't know they were so simple, I'll be making some soon.

Looks wonderful. Blessings to you both and prayers during this difficult time you are having.
Lol do they look like they are having difficult time? 😂😂
@@calculator4482 yeah well this was filmed some time last year so who knows whether their house is still there or what their situation is. In the same way that for you if your country was invaded we can assume they are having a difficult time to one degree or other.
I love Ukrainian cuisine! Thanks a million, Luba!

Making these for supper sometime this week. Thank you. Be safe.
Fun! They look so simple, I'll make them today. Thanks!
It seems to be a delicacy. Lets try it in Portugal one of these days.
Nothing like a lady cooking you up a great meal.❤️
I can smell it all the way in America.🇺🇸
Great video, those look great and easy to make. Here in the US, at least in my family, we make potato pancakes out of left over mashed potatoes. My dad always makes extra mashed potatoes just so he can make them. You have to used leftover mashed potatoes too, they don’t stay together unless they have been chilled overnight in the refrigerator. Basically you just add chives and minced onions to the mashed potatoes, mix well, form small patties, and fry. You can also add cheese and bacon, really good that way.
Thanks for sharing, I will have to make these soon.
My family is from Slovakia and we make a very similar dish but use garlic instead of onion and add marjoram. This is comfort food at it's best. Your cat is adorable too
Just the grandparents from Poland same recipe :-) So my dad's side are from southeastern Poland so we cook this stuff (stuff cabbage, potato pancake, perogia, etc) and then my mother's side are Norwegian and Sweden - they cook Swedish pancakes and lots of fish

Amazing and yet simple recipe. Thank you so much for showing the simple things, your culture, and opening your home to us viewers. Good work..!
Ukrainian Potato pancakes are now also made in Denmark. I followed your recipe, but also added a pinch of garlic powder, they were perfect.. Thank you for sharing this :)
They are an integral attribute of Belarusian cuisine According to one version, draniki came to the Belarusian cuisine from the German one thanks to the work "The Cook of the Good Navuchany" by Jan Shitler, released in 1830, in which he cited a recipe for potato pancakes borrowed from the Germans, so where's "ukraine" ?
One of my favorite things when I was a kid (I'm 58 now almost 59) was potato pancakes. My dad made them. His side of the family is Polish. The parents marriage was an early disaster but when dad was around we got potato pancakes. He made them using eggs. I'm vegan now, 30+ years. Will try making them with an egg substitute. Zucchini pancakes were also really yummy.
Love easy cook recipes . Thank you for sharing..!! 🙏🏽🇺🇦❣️
Thank you Luba, I have been making these and they are wonderful. Your and Pavlo's videos are delightful. I plan to visit the Ukraine once I re-learn the language. Grew up with Ukrainian food in MN, now have to make it myself. Love it

Hello Luba! I made this yesterday for the house hold that I cook for, they all loved it. Thank you for such an easy but delicious recipe!.
We call these 'hash browns' here in Texas. Though the flour and sour cream are good ideas to twist it up.
Been watching this channel for months and I can’t even turn on the stove, but I keep coming back for something!
Hi luba. Love your channel. Could you please do an authentic ukrainian borscht recipe. Love from the US
Awesome idea! I haven’t had potato cakes since I was a child I’ll be making some today for New Years! Thanks for the inspiration Luba. 😊

Just make them this evening, theyve been absolutely delicious . Thx for charing Luba🤩
Thank you so much!
🥰
They look very delicious. And it seems in Ukraine, as well as Russia, sour cream is a key ingredient for most dishes.
yes, I really like sour cream and add it to almost every dish🥰
Thank you!
My Mutti taught us this recipe, she also made them in the oven, just grated them finer, lined the bottom of a pan with onion slices, like a layer of pie crust, and put oil over and then poured the potatos over, about 2 cm thick, and into the wood stove oven they went, for about a hour.
It was the winters that she made this, as the wood kitchen stove was the housed heat source, unless it got to -1C.
Looks delicious - some random guy in USA might make them because of your wonderful video.
Have to say those cakes look very YUMMY!!!!!!!!
🥰Thank you 🥰
I grew up with a girl who looks just like you...Im hooked on your channel
Wonderful, and super happy to see your recipe. Potato pancakes are also very popular in Canada and yours are very similar to how they are made here. As a variation, I will sometimes use green onions (or scallions as they are sometimes called) to give them a bit of colour, or sometimes I'll add just a little bit of nutmeg to give them a slightly different flavour. These videos are wonderful to see and I look forward to seeing what you do next.
Those potato pancakes looks soooooo delicious! I got to try your recipe! 👍👍👍
Thank you for your comment🥰

Yes I agree men of culture. They look delicious and firm. The potato pancakes look good to. 👍
I made these a couple of times so far with a couple of "modifications". I mixed a whole roll of cooked, ground, pork suasage into mine and 1/8 tsp of chili powder into your recipe. Everybody had an empty plate after a few minutes. I will make these every weekend until once again Ukraine is a "FREE COUNTRY"!
