Why Organic, Sustainable Farming Matters | Portrait of a Farmer

- When it comes to your food, nature always has the last word.
Most pro-organic documentaries make their point by taking stabs at the cruelty and other evils involved in the world of industrialized farming. In this short documentary portrait, Jesse Straight, owner of Whiffletree Farm, shows us a different approach. As he gestures to the beautiful landscapes that surround us he explains, "being a farmer is special because this is my office. You spend your day making animals happy...you get to do things that help the things around you thrive".
The passion that Jesse exudes in this film will make you question every fast-food burger you've ever eaten, but for all the right reasons.

This person listened to his heart and he is happy
Let's make farming great again
Lord Luke Lightbringer no
Y'all can't keep that prick out of anything, can you? Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.
this is how farming SHOULD be done! this is the right way! loving and caring for your animals!
+Ashley Tallman
Loving and caring and then killing and eating! YAY
+Karl S yeah it's called the food chain idiot.
dannyv84oz Did I offend you?
+Karl S not at all, I was only replying to your comment about "killing and eating" as if somehow raising animals for food is evil, this farmer is clearly careful to raise his animals in a natural fashion and without stress, if he decides to shoot them and eat them at the end of it all that's fine all creatures die one way or another - the basic idea is that just because something is raised to be eaten it shouldn't be caged/mistreated during the duration of its life. Your comment seemed to point to the thread starter's comment about raising animals in a humane fashion.

I undertand that, and ofcourse this type of farming i's better than factory farming.
I just can't see how someone can say they love and care for an animal they ultimately are going to kill for the sake of money or their own pleasure. To me, that is actually evil.
I love how he never mentioned the word "environment" but and still has a way with his words to make it so compelling
healthy environment is our responsibility !
This video got almost 200K views, whereas the rest of your videos got under 1k between all of them. Please make more like this! People are craving insight into how beautiful local and home grown organic farms function. Listen to your viewers!
Normal man, working normal work, eating normal food, have normal brain, living normal life.
That's not normal by modern standards, but definitely healthy and happy.
Modern people are usually not so happy and healthy,
XAR normal brain part is spot on. Most people’s brain cannot even function properly because of how they eat and live.
I'm so happy there are more farms like this in my county
Ugh this made want to love people again.
So inspiring. Really.

I've been trying to become a vegetarian for months but it's too hard for me to give up on eating chicken. This video makes me feel so much better. No cruelty for the animals. Thank you. Every farm should be like this.
Hi, you shouldn't feel bad for eating animals, it's a natural food chain. I agree with you, raising animals in a natural way free from chemicals is the way all farming should be done.
AleFonlut but no way of killing can be humane :(
@@patrickmueller3438 Humans literally cannot live without killing some living things. So, you want to choose what has to grow and die for human consumption because one form has eyes and the other has roots? Plants are living things just like animals. They have sophisticated, connected, and many researchers would say very 'aware' lives. Are we drawing the line because we don't believe plants feel pain when being killed but animals might?
Look, I think humans should definitely be eating less meat and livestock farming should all be organic and regenerative, but fish, organically farmed animals, wild game and plants are all part of a food supply and circle of life for many animals, including humans.
great sir. I am from India. I myself feel proud to be a farmer.
Knowing where your food comes from is important. Jesse Straight of Whiffletree Farm shares why he left the corporate world to run an ecologically sustainable farm. Please SHARE this video if you like it. #organicfood #organicfarming

This video speaks to my heart. All the same things we want for our farm. Making animals happy, leaving the land more fertile than we found it, paying attention to Nature, and trying to mimic it... YES!
I'm from Viêt Nam, I love his farm and his life
Who in the world is disliking a video like this? This is exactly the way the world needs to go. I'm excited to go this way myself.

Great!
Love your work on the farm? Great!
Organic and Sustainable! Exciting!
The smaller animals are apparently the most sustainable down to the chickens, the rabbits, and then the insects.
Thank you for sharing great videos!
This is the way I'm always hoping!! 👍🏼 great job
Wonderful viewing .Great family .
Love it. It's taken us several years of trial and error to find our niche within sustainable farming here in the Kentucky Bluegrass. Wendell Berry is a man among men 😊 Patience and perseverance has been our motto 😉✌🏼New way of farming lifestyle? Yes please! #newgenerationoffarmers

Eight Monsanto employees disliked this...
Hahaha, that company is the bane of farming communities
Let me know if the farm next door comes up for sale. You’d be a great neighbour 👍
I'd love to know which book written by Wendell Berry was the inspiration for this Farm if anyone knows?
Hello sir, do you need vaccin to handle your chicken from starter until layer? . Thank you

Farming and adventure
Nice and good skills with camera 😊😊😊
bravo..keep up the good work..as most people r slow..they will come to c by 2090 what your doing is spot on & will all jump on the band wagon of "logical" farming (but hopefully earlier)
Sigue así, felicidades! 👍
May I suggest you look up Korean Natural Farming whic might interest you, God Bless
How many hectare is your farm?
This is the way that all farming should be done. I can't believe that as I sit here in my bed , there are thousands or poor animals suffering and being slaughtered while being conscience . I feel so bad because I feel like a hypocrite because I eat meat and animal by products. Damn this world is messed up 😩😭
+Krystyna Borsh I do agree, the whole world is messed up, but once you realize that, I kinda think it's hard to keep living by the same standards as you always were- so just go vegan, no more feeling like a hypocrite, no more bad feelings about your habits :)
Oo waw kaayo
Great video.
I recently made the switch to organic eggs. It's expensive but at least the hens are treated way better than non-organic/caged hens. 😊
Hi Alexis
Soil is made from the nearby mountain rocks that decompose to become sand silt and clay. The chemical composition of your soil will be different from other soils depending on what rocks it came from. Rocks can be granite, limestone, ultramafic meaning high in iron and magnesium etc. these create soils with different ratios of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, etc.. You have to do a chemical test to determine if your soil has the right ratios of the 13 necessary chemical elements for plants and people to be healthy, and has the right PH for the plants you grow.
Do the test from a good soil test lab not a garden N, P, K test kit and adjust your soil chemistry for good plant health and you will achieve the goal you outline here.
I like good . wonderful!
What was the Wendell Berry book please?
That is the good exemple to proved than the agriculture don't need of the chimical industrie to produice food
Respect and some envy too just a little
you have my support :)
very nice
Respect this man
Beautiful, that’s how farming should be. We are so lucky here in the UK prince Charles devoted his life to organic farming which we can avail. And do our own little way by planting vegetables and grow some organic fruit as well.
