    Two suggestions - strap that water tank and, when deciding how to build your cabinet under the sink, take into consideration that at some point you may need to access and fix your piping, so don't make it nearly impossible for you to do that.

    Here are a couple other YT channels that feature box truck builds: Live Simple, Live Free (with Bill and Elizabeth Keller), and Techno Barbarian. In fact the YT algorithm brought us to your channel. We sure have enjoyed your build and are really excited to see it come together. Our daughter lives out your way in Nebraska and another daughter further west in Idaho. We’d love to do a box truck build ourselves and appreciate others like you and these other channels putting their builds out there for us to learn (AND be entertained) from. Take care!

    If you are going to have a shower you really want hot water or you will rarely use the shower you put so much effort into building.
    In my van I have the smallest Rheem 2.5 g120v water heater that I converted to 300 watts DC. I replaced the thermostat with a generic RV one from Amazon. A 60 amp relay from Amazon to control it. The price was about 150$ at Home Depot delivered and I got the element on Ebay. I got the single 12v/300 watt element but there is a dual 300/600 that can be wired for either wattage. It is not the most convenient shape but it works well and keeps water hot for a really long time. Put it on a simple mechanical timer that activates the relay. 120v Mechanical timers work fine with DC to activate the relay but won't handle the full 30 amps. I set the thermostat at 125F and I can get a very nice hot shower. A cheap aquarium digital temp gauge glued to the tank is useful so you know the temp is high enough for a shower.
    You should also look into a shower valve with a built in thermostat on Amazon so the water stays at the set temp without constant adjustments. They are very nice and totally worth the $. If you can't afford one now don't worry the mounting holes are the same as the 15$ RV shower valve so you can upgrade it later.
    Everlanders has some good videos on modding the Rheem.

    • @vanlifemeow
      @vanlifemeow  6 дней назад

      that's really clever. and 300 watts is enough? i might consider this.

    • @rsmith8121
      @rsmith8121 6 дней назад

      @@vanlifemeow 300 watts takes about 20-30 minutes to get up to 125 degrees. It is not enough for continuous replenishment at a reasonable temp so it needs to be at max temp before you start the shower. The aquarium temp gauge lets you know when the water is hot enough or wait until it stops pulling power (you have some kind of meter I assume) This is why I set the temp so high so that I use less hot water to get my desired temp. A 600 watt element would take half the time but the wire connectors on the heating element are pretty small and I did not want to put that much current into a small connector. You should use fat 8ga or10ga silicone wiring for the run between the element and the relay/ground. Resistive elements tend to get wires hot and cheap PVC jackets might melt or degrade quickly.
      One of the things I like about the Rheem and it's clones is that it is all standard water heater stuff just in a tiny package so it has regular threads and a drain unlike the point of use ones. I setup this up in my buddies van too and he has the high tech Victron Cerbo which can control the relay from the touchscreen or phone and the temp sensor is wired to display on the screen or phone too. With Starlink he can start the water heater going remotely like while returning from a hike or ride and the water is hot when he gets back.

    Thanks for the video appreciate you taking the time to take us along your build home depot is a contractor store and you really should think about it is so much better material.and I really can't stand to shop at menards.i personally do not shop there but some customers of mine really like the 11%rebate so they always order from there.but I can see how everything is going to come out,I believe it will be no different with a professional built RV.i think sometimes you try to be to perfect for the internet but I can appreciate that you care about what things look like,I do that even for my customers and they sometimes say it doesn't have to be perfect.but as a perfectness I can not leave water lines hanging and having my wire turned sideways when it actually is made to lay flat lol but you are one of the only people I have seen leaving their knife's open lol .I did when I first started doing construction at 14 and then older guys yelled and yelled at me until I figured it out.😂😂😂.but I can really see the finished product of your rv and I would say if it doesn't work out for some reason you will be able to make all of your money back and then some.i mean can life is really kicked in,in the last few years

    For a water heater in my cargo trailer I use an immersion heater. Put it in a 5 gallon bucket of water. Heats up water for a hot shower in 12 minutes. I funnel the water in a 5 gallon camp shower bag. Then use the electric pump and shower head that comes with the camp shower. That could be easily set up in your shower stahl and would be portable to also take outdoor showers. I also have a great quality shower/toilet tent to use outdoors. Let me know if you would like the name brand camp shower or shower tent. My shower tent is a good quality pop up that stores away very nicely. The solar shower would make a great back up to use outdoors also.

    You can fix the countertop issue by adding a piece of wood on the back. I wouldn't do it on the front because it might just break off you just have to make sure that the stove and sink will allow you to pull it forward enough. The piece behind the stove I would make it separate. also the placement of the outlet so low behind the cooktop we live less room for the toaster because of the plugs sticking out of the wall. I would move them up if I were you. I get that you don't want to see it but with limited space in the van, it might be your best option. Also to thumbs up for the razor blade 😆

    You do an awesome job filming Broski. You are definitely one of my favorite channels. Have you thought about putting some kind of drain pan under everything including your pump incase you ever have a leak or need to drain your system ? Maybe running a drain through your floor to your grey water tank or even just to the outside of your truck ?

  • @darlene6670

    Just run an PVC pipe from the grey tank to the outdoors with a small computer fan, it will just push it out, but that is if it is not a portable tank. If it is you can also just put in a switch inside to empty onto the ground IF, you only use biodegradable soaps.

    Keep up the good content! Im a plumber by trade, you would be better served using a 3/8 brass compression tee fitting connecting the
    k/faucet hoses together, less joints, less chance of leaks and easier in my opinion, also if you want no stink from your sink, create a mini trap by bending drain hose in a shape of a trap, you can create a trap by straping pipe in a U shape on the side or back of cabinet.

    Hey, just want to comment abt your wood stove placement. Yeah, I am late to the draw. I slept next to a wood stove and HOT! Also the way you want the pipe to run isn’t the greatest but no doubt in time you will figure stuff out cause thats how you seem to roll. Loving the build! From Canada.

    Another great video. You mentioned you were going to run your AC with two additional outlets, Daisy chained after. I’m a retired electrician. Be sure. The first outlet in the Daisy chain is GFCI. That way it protects all the Daisy chain outlets afterwards from any type of short fires are a dangerous thing moving vehicles and always remember to carry a fire extinguisher that’s easily accessible. Best of luck to you and again great videos.

      After making this comment, I stopped to think about some thing. Definitely use the gfci outlet first and then Daisy chain afterwards unless you are putting in a refrigerator running off of alternating current. If you’re running your refrigerator off of alternating current, you will need a dedicated outlet for it. Refrigerators are known to trip GFCI’s, which means your food’s gonna spoil because your refrigerator is going to shut off. Hope the information helps you or someone else in the comments. Have a good one.

      you cant gfci in an rv because there is no equipment ground. pretty sure. the outlets would not reset, unless i tied the neutral to the common. that might be what happens in the inverter anyway

      To put a chassis ground on a box truck, locate a large, bare metal section on the frame of the truck box, ideally near the rear of the box where the body meets the chassis, and securely attach your ground wire to that spot using a ring terminal and a bolt; ensure the area is cleaned of any paint or rust to establish a good electrical connection. Hope this helps I really liked how ya added that garage space to your truck ya got some cool ideas 💡

    Your green wire is always your ground and even though your van isn't grounded, you'll be plugging into service at an RV park that is grounded. Thereby grounding everything connected in the truck. Right?

    Another great video, it’s really coming along. I noticed you have the drain hose coming down the corner of the cabinet. Do you have enough hose to create a “U” in the hose, right below the sink (before the hose travels) down the wall of the cabinet? This would create a “trap” in the hose for the “Stink” you were commenting about from your gray water tank. Just a thought, I’m not a plumber, I’m a musician 😂. Keep up the great work!

    Hey Rick this is Rick, instead of redoing your countertop, why don't you make an integrated back splash that could double as a spice rack. It would then push the counter top out the depth that you need for the front. A little more work but gives you the back splash and a functional storage space.

    "Carafe," pronounced like "ka-raff." This was a GREAT video! I enjoyed every minute. I'm learning so much, both by your mistakes as well as by your knowledge. Has anyone ever told you how funny you are? You are very deadpan, and i find that very humorous. I never realized how much plumbing lends itself to a need to respond "that's what (s)he said." I should have kept track of every time i wanted to say i, lol. No worries about filming your back while installing the plumbing for two reasons: 1) we could still see what your hands were doing (and we know it's a tight space) - that's what he said 😂 - and 2) your long hair is shiny and beautiful. As a friend of mine told me about something about myself, "it's a sight to behold." The same can be said about your hair. I'm not flirting. It just is what it is, and for people who like long hair, seeing it isn't an issue. So many guys shave their heads (ugh)...they'll be bald soon enough naturally, so flaunt it while you've got it! All i can think of is "I want to brush that for hours!" Still not flirting! I've had long hair my entire life and LOVED it. I finally cut it last year because i moved from VT to FL and it no longer looked good in this weather. It was sad, but i considered it for a year before i took the plunge (that's what he said...i can't help it!!!), and i'm happy with it. Now, it's wild and windblown instead of long, wet, and scraggly. Enough about hair. Back to plumbing...about possible smells backing up through the sink hose going to your grey water tank, what if you put a "u" bend or a loop (like you did with the water tank exhaust tube) to act like a p trap in your hose? I'm thingking that might be enough to separate the smell. I use a similar accordion hose to drain my sink and have a "u" with no smells. Have a great week and close that razor! 😊Lauren

But i get my protein from high protein processed vegan food. My hair was up to about my shoulders and now its back down to mid back. I used to be able to sit on it when i was younger.
