    • @TheReelRaymond
      @TheReelRaymond 4 года назад +6

      Compared to me you definitely lean more stamina. In junior college I went 52.7 (400m), 2:09.9 (800m), and 4:39.5 (1,500m). Guess which ones my coaches had me focus on? That's right: the distance ones. I know. I had the same bewildered thoughts back then too. I also ran like 19 minutes in a 5K road race my JC coaches forced me to do. I really hated my collegiate running experience and honestly probably should've went to a different school that could actually recognize which events I should've done. I'll pile on by saying I had some 200m practice intervals in the 23.0 neighborhood. But yeah-leave me in the middle distance races to get embarrassed every week.

      I'm weird in nature as my primary school friend challenged me to decathlon our early 20's remember being fan of weight training back then and without any running I did 12,9 (100m), 1:17 (400m) and 6:53 (1500m) I wasn't tiny at all 187cm/99kg but I think more sprinter type thought about 19 years later I'm challenging myself with long distance running ☺️ after 20 month of slow progress I'm getting lighter as today morning I was just under 86kg.

    Great breakdown Sage, you're right, Spencer looks so relaxed at that pace, you did well keeping up!
    I would recommend playing with your upper body / torso lean. I recently had a gait analysis done and my torso lean was probably around 3-5°, they recommend ~8-10°, that's probably the difference between you and Spencer. I've retrained it (easy adjustment compared to bringing glutes in and reducing overstriding) and found it to be far more efficient.
    There are a lot of gains to be made from continued form focus as you often say, appreciate you doing these breakdowns, this was awesome!

    Watch from 4:45 . It's obvious why sage struggles keeping that pace, just watch how safe swings he's chest and swings shoulders ! The dude Infront stays straight, he's upper body is super stiff and he uses all he's energy on he's legs - sage uses loads of energy twisting. Techniques so different, Sage has a wide and tall frame, the dude in front has narrow hips and shoulders - being tall is a disadvantage, I've studied sports science, and running economy - there is no denying, if your short, you have an automatic advantage. Less body mass, easier to stay cool, less wind resistance. Considering Sages height, he does amazing !

    I really enjoyed that one Sage. Fantastic comparison at speed and an interesting insight that longer distance runners might get a bit lazy and run a bit too upright. I'd be interested to know if you are going to try to adapt your running form for the longer stuff in light of this. Cheers, Greg
