    Shaun, your detailed videos make it easy for others to duplicate your efforts and enjoy beautiful lawns. When I renovated my lawn, I bought seed from a commercial vendor that caters mainly to golf courses and sports fields. The experts there were happy to recommend a blend of cultivars for my area and lawn usage.

    I am always envious of golf club greensmen. They have special access to some interesting and robust seed mixes. More robust, resilient and stronger growth than the seed mixes we get offered at garden centres.

    Hi Shaun! Since watching your videos I've been inspried to get outside and work on my garden/lawn and I am really enjoying it so huge thanks! I recently tried scarifying for the first time about 4/5 weeks ago. I am thinking about doing a touch of reseeding in some areas of my lawn too where it's stayed quite thin in some areas after scarifying. However I have a lawn that is partially in the shade for pretty much most of the day. My lawn slopes quite a bit in areas too and especially at the bottom in the shade it gets pretty damp and extremely mossy I think quite a bit of rain collects there at the bottom of the slope. In short I have a bit of everything really, sunny spots and very shaded spots, a huge amount of moss, slopes and poor drainage in certain areas which I suspect is not helped by a thick London clay base beneath. It's making it a nightmare for me to decide what sort of seed I should buy to set things in the right direction. If you have any pointers for me and my challenges ahead with breathing new life into my lawn that'd be great! Thanks once again for the amazing videos and getting me back outdoors!

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  3 месяца назад +1

      Hi I'd def choose a shaded seed. There are several around to choose from. I'd wist until all this dastardly rain has gone away else it'll get wash further downhill.. Then once seeded keep damp for a month with light mistings.. I'd also def fork or aerate the lawn (or at worst, just thebits to be seeded) before seeding. Sprinkle some gypsum down as well and cover it all in a thin layer of topsoil to help keep seeds in place.. A final cover of compost can start adding some organic stuff in

    I have followed your videos and done a good lawn renovation. Overseeded and I'm now at week 3 and heaps of wild grass came in. I ripped it out manually, then top dressed bare spots. Currently waiting for seed.
    If the wild grasses come back again, what is the solution? Can i use a herbicide and what would you reccomend as it was painful work ripping them all out.

      Hi if you're in the US you can get pre emergents to use early spring to stop new stuff.. Mowing much higher can help a lot too.. But for now. You could dig out, New soil and reseed.. Play it by ear

      @@LawnRight I'm in the uk. I will remember pre emergent for spring and I hope the grass I put down comes back. I managed to get a good load of crabgrass out and put down heaps of compost and seed on the bare bits.
      The lawn originally had never been scarified. Ever. Followed one of your videos which helped. If the crabgrass comes back, can I use roundup on it or will the roundup ruin my entire lawn?
      And awesome work BTW. Love your videos. Especially the captions about putting seed on your hairline 😂

    What is the ideal seed to use? I used a rye grass seed from the garden centre for hardy lawns rather than delicate. It's looking much better after a full reno but it still gets the red/yellowing patches.

      There's pros and cons to lal of them an fit comes down to what battle you prefer.. A rye that need overseeding or creeping etc that needs scarifying. I've got a creeping rye down at the minute

Is it okay to give it a mow on a high setting 2 weeks after a overseed over the existing grass being long? And also, can I put some pre seed fertiliser down after it too?

    • @LegendaryLawnCare89

      Looks like perennial ryegrass and poa, I can see the seed heads in the video. Most fescues take twice as long as ryegrass to germinate. They do both mix well together though provided it's not cultivars like Barenbrug Rhizomatous Tall Fescue. Which looks like Quack Grass or Nutsedge the blades are so thick.

    When can I spray ant killer on a lawn after completely renovating it? I can't find anything online if it will harm the new grass. I renovated my front lawn yesterday. Do I need to wait for 4 weeks or so? I haven't got ant mounds yet in it but I know there's ants in it. I bought 10L for both my front and back lawn. I get ant mounds like a foot high when they're active.

    How soon after reseeding can I apply weed killer? I think the compost I used to top dress must have had lots of weed seeds inside as I have some clover and other grass coming through my new lawn. Can I spray them 3 weeks after reseeding?? Thanks!

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi I'd wait a good 6 weeks to be honest

    • @LegendaryLawnCare89
      @LegendaryLawnCare89 4 месяца назад

      I've applied herbicide 4 weeks after overseeding using Par III or Trillion many times with just damage, and I'm using commercial-grade herbicides. However, it really depends on the grass type and cultivar, something that has longer germination times like KBG wait at least 6 weeks. Perennial Ryegrass should be fine 4 weeks after herbicide application, as long as you follow the recommended rates, and don't overlap or double-spray areas. The best approach is to apply the herbicide 1-2 weeks before the renovation, as the waiting period is much shorter. Better yet use a pre-emergent like Tenacity or Torocity (active ingredient Mesotrione) and you can apply it the same day you overseed.

    • @Mike--K
      @Mike--K 4 месяца назад

      @@LegendaryLawnCare89 Unfortunately, Mesotrione based pre-emergents like Tenacity are not available to consumers in the UK. I exchanged emails with a Syngenta representative in the UK, and learned Mesotrione is not banned, but has never been submitted for approval as a pre-emergent for ornamental lawns.

    You mentioning not needing to put a weedkiller on. On that subject, I tend not to use selective weedkillers on residential lawns because more often than not I'm less than a meter from a drain. (water course) how do you get around this? Would putting a cover over the drain be sufficient to keep me legal?
