A really beautiful reading from the Wurzel Gummidge book. To me it had always been "that silly scarecrow program Jon Pertwee did after WHO but that writer clearly knew how to use language. I'd happily listen to you reading the whole book.
Hi, Chris again. What a joy your videos are. I never read much when I was young and only caught up with children's books in the early eighties when I was in my early thirties thanks to working with Steve Lillington whose dad Kenneth was published by Faber. Steve and I used to go to reading groups and were fortunate to meet Jan Mark and Leon Garfield. Thank you for reminding me of some wonderful days and books.
Oh my god, I remember reading The Cartoonist as a kid! It was in my secondary school library, I would have been about 12, it was shelved next to the Douglas Adams books. It's stuck with me ever since, as I was a bit of a reclusive kid myself, it really captured the frustrations of wanting to be alone to read or write or whatever while family members want you to be doing other things. There's a lovely passage about the main character clinging to a ladder like a drowning man clinging to a tree as he climbs up into the attic and pulls it up behind him.
❤Awww beautiful Cat Paul ❤Am Disa from Reykjavik Iceland🩵love your books from penguin am a huge fan of Dickens, Jane Austen, George Elliott,Thomas Hardy, Henrý Thomas, Brõnte sisters,Roald Dahl,HPLovecraft,Edgar Allan Poe❤

That sounds wonderful! I feel like I’m still only catching up on the wonderful kids’ books published in the 60,70s and 80s
