    Hi George! Another fun and informative video - Thanks! A little tip…to get the glare off in your photos, just have a piece of 2’x2’ white foam core with a quarter size hole cut in the center. Position it so you can take the photo thru the hole. Wait till you see the difference! Loved the baked potato story - who knew?

    Chicken wings were once an item no one wanted . Very hard to market them . That was until somebody came up with the idea to market them to bars and pubs . Sauces were added to them like BBQ etc . The idea became a success , as wing nights are still popular . They’ve tried it with turkey wings too . That idea never took flight ( pun intended ). This was told to me by a bar owner I knew in the past . A bit of food trivia .
    Congrats on your sales . You deserve all good things that come your way , as you are so honest about what you sell as well as your knowledge .

    Hey George. Great sales! I don't collect Kewpies, but those cigar linens were fantastic. They're a great cross-collectible. 1914 was the year my maternal grandmother was born. The Fenton/Dave Fetty vase is a really pretty one. The Mengel _Miss America_ boat went for a bit less than I expected, considering its condition. I much prefer it to the _Star Wars_ Tie Fighter 😂

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Месяц назад +2

      I was happy to be able to find some items old enough to really be antiques that people would recognize and enjoy! The Kewpies are a great story, too. The Miss America boat would perhaps have been worth my while to try to fix, but I was willing to sell for less not to take the chance that I couldn't put it back together properly. That Fenton vase is one I'd have in my collection!

      @TheAntiqueNomad  Месяц назад +1

      Thanks! I didn't really experience the summer lull, partly has to do with what you're finding and able to sell at any given time...but there are definitely more eyes on eBay in the cooler months.

    Always highlight blemishes and describe defects in detail. Customers appreciate items that show up looking much better than pictured and described. This also seems to increase the chance that a customer comes back in the future.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Месяц назад +1

      I've found that is definitely true, if you describe flaws a buyer will be pleasantly surprised.

    When you gave the person a refund because of the shipping cost did eBay reduce their fee since fees are based on total sell?

  • @eclectic_vintage
    @eclectic_vintage Месяц назад +2

    Hi George, I am surprised by how few pictures you post for items, especially those that are high priced. Is there a reason you don't show more detailed views or all sides of an item?

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Месяц назад

      I honestly figure that because it all refers to a video where I've shown it in great detail, it isn't as important to repeat in the listing. I give enough detail for people to see and then let them ask questions if they need, but not many people do.

    I envy you Americans, so much. If you were UK resellers, you would be tearing your hair out. You guys have a MASSIVE country and ergo, a massive, captive customer base. We have a finite amount of valuable items and millions of resellers, all in competition, on a TINY island. So be grateful you live in such a country.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  19 дней назад

      We are spoiled that way! I really enjoy UK made items but I see as many here in North America as I perceive there are in England/Scotland/Wales/North Ireland...you sold us a lot of stuff!

    3:56. I am 100% against the WHITE OUT background in ebay photos ! It makes the item look FLAT and CHEAP with NO shadows . It also makes it IMPOSSIBLE to see (at a GLANCE - without READING) HOW BIG the item it. It really looks like you cut a photo out of a magazine and pasted it on a white piece of paper.

    • @LannieLord
      @LannieLord Месяц назад +2

      I am SHOCKED and how many people do this . I think it's a terrible practice . And yes- I know that someone says "It makes it look better in a Google Search" or some such nonsense. I am always scolding KAT the Nurse Flipper for doing this . I think it just makes your item look FLAT .

    • @timhazeltine3256
      @timhazeltine3256 Месяц назад +3

      Well, it's each resellers choice about backgrounds. And while we all have opinions about what's best..in the end, its only our opinion, not a statement of fact.@@LannieLord

    • @BastetNoodles
      @BastetNoodles Месяц назад +2

      Actually, my pet peeve are photos that show background items that are NOT part of the sale listing.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Месяц назад

      @LannieLord Interesting, there seems to be two schools of thought about this! The white out background takes away a lot of background issues that a lot of semi-amateur photographers like myself could not fix on our own, things that distract from the item. I photograph on the road in motels, places where I'm a guest and don't have proper studio equipment, etc. It does take a dimensional aspect away though, that is true, and it does change the item, so it's for me a case-by-case decision whether to do it or not.
