I am a new homeschooling mom, starting with my kindergartener this year. You have some fun products and supplies and ideas I will consider using myself. Thanks!
Hi! I’m so excited I found your channel. It’s hard to find someone that’s minimalist, religious, into nature and Waldorfy/Charlotte mason, into finance like me!!
We use math lessons for a living edu. And LOVE IT! The stories are short and sweet! And 1 to 2 work sheets a day! So fun! My daughter (almost 6) loves it!
This video is a huge jackpot! Thanks for giving a peek into what you use because so many of these materials are things I've wondered about.
I love the filana crayons, but if you are interested in trying another type, Azafran block crayons (on Amazon for $10) are gorgeous to work with because they blend so beautifully almost like paint with just a fingertip. They are also really fun to use and the watercolor over for a beautiful effect.
Thank you so much for sharing all these videos! They have been awesome to watch. There is nothing more helpful for a newer homeschooling mom(my first just finished Kindergarten) than having experienced moms share what they loved. Your style of schooling is exactly where we've been heading. I've been wanting to cut back this upcoming fall after stumbling through various box curriculums and the MOUNDS of things they send you(too much stuff!). Seeing you applying minimalism and how you organically include nature study and art in your schooling has been so inspiring. Plus your personality is so endearing. =)
And thank you so much for going through The Good and the Beautiful books; I love getting to really see what a curriculum looks like before we buy it. Her books are beautiful! I'm excited to try the Kindergarten language arts this fall.
My girls similarly shocked me by spontaneously beginning to multiply numbers at 4 & 6 years old. They just started popping out with it “4 and 4 and 4 is 12!” And “4 again and again 4 times is 16!” I was blown away. I still held off of formally teaching them the 4 processes until Waldorf 1st grade, but when we got to it it was a breeze.
What great resources! I've added so many items to my Amazon wishlist after watching this!
Yes! We are doing burgess for 'science' too. Just decided that yesterday. My kids want to learn about animals and I plan to tie in characteristic lessons and journaling with each one. I think I need that vintage book you got!
I really love those Burgess books. They're amazing! I would totally get the vintage ones of those if they weren't so pricey. I might eventually trade them out just to peruse myself haha! The Parables vintage one was super affordable. We love it!
SaltyTribeCo yes! I found some study guides for the animals from the books on Pinterest, so that will help us with topics/activities! I want to journal the animal and find characteristics and verses we can study along the way too. I'm exvited!
Pretty sure you caused a bunch of people to go by the Parables book off amazon! I had a used one in my cart for like $8. It's gone now and the cheapest one is almost $30! :(
WHAAAAT?!! That happened on my minimalist Christmas present post, I had to keep replacing the obscure stuff I put on it LOL
Try this one [two copies left] : www.amazon.com/Parables-Nature-J-Calvin-Reid/dp/B0016WDEL8/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1499734682&sr=8-10&keywords=parables+from+nature
Thanks! Ordered now :)
we also try to take a minimal approach with schooling (well, and life ) and have found Waldorf essentials by Melisa neilson so fitting ! I feel like you would love the curriculum ! If you haven't already you should totally check it out !
we have and looove that illustrated bible. a huge favourite with all my kids! Pictures are so beautiful!
I get so excited when I see any new videos of yours posted! Eek
I love your videos! I think I am the least creative person ever, so I use a lot of your art recommendations and ideas for our homeschool. Thank you so much for sharing! The water color and sea salt painting is awesome.
I hope you don't have the out-of-breath problem anymore. That said, I experience that problem and for me it's because i have chronically low potassium. Just sharing in case that could help you or someone. Thanks for sharing things form your homeschool!
One week after I read this comment, I had a surgery. They checked my blood just before [including potassium] and it was all normal....then 24 hours after the surgery I blacked out on my bathroom floor. That has never ever happened to me before in my life. I called a neighbor and went to the hospital where they found out that my potassium had plummeted to a dangerously low level within just a day. It's completely normal again [and was just a couple days after]. They have no idea why that happened to me but it just did and was the cause of the blackout. It turns out I also needed a breathing treatment [I have asthma] and I am doing much better now! I'm really glad you shared this. I ingest potassium daily through food and vitamins but that one day where it was severely low, I was VERY out of breath. I will actually definitely stay more aware of that and my potassium level. So far so good and it's all normal!
Thank you for sharing! Those pencil holders are amazing, I wish they delivered to Australia. Love your choices :D
My 4 year old daughter is just like your son. Recognized all her letters lower and uppercase at 15 months. Learned phonics at 2/3 and writes all letters now (just turned 4). I just dont know what to do. Thank you for this video!
It's scary, right? Like...how do you teach a genius?! He's over here spouting off crazy facts and I am like .. uh... so... Here's a stack of books. Let mommy know when you're ready for college. LOL
Well I'll be watching for curriculum because I'm thinking she's going to need to be homeschooled. It definitely adds more pressure to parenting...😁thank you! thank you for sharing!
You've totally got this, mama!
Yes! I'd love info on that.
I love how purposeful your curriculum it!!! ❤
Looks like it is going to be a fun year for your son. TFS!
Sure thing! :-D
I love RNM, our old church cancelled their membership unfortunately. We've found Pure Flix to be 80% similar. It's $3/month.
Thanks for sharing your ideas! I am purchasing several things based on your recommendations.
New subscriber, where have u been all my life😍 love your videos
What! Jane I was just going to ask what you used for your youngest for or recommend for Pre-K and then you put this up ☺️ good thing for that notification button .
That's because I am actually a mind reading mermaid. True story. ;-)
You can find super book and flying house on RUclips! My favorite cartoons when I was little and I am 40!
Donna dallwein-mackey we love super book too!
All of my children adore Burgess books too! Good choice. :)

😅 when you had the reader up, I reached up with my fingers to turn the page!! Lol.
So nice to watch!
I hear you! In some things, my 5 1/2 year old is very much smarter than me. It is scary and amazing all at once! I love your videos!
Hi! So this is the first time I've been to your channel and I just wanted to say my son was the EXACT same way!!!! And I have found it So So hard finding any type of language arts curriculum bec of it!!!! Nice to know I'm not alone. Subscribed! 💖 oh and quick question.... does that form drawing book come with stories for the forms? TIA!
Hey! No, it's more just inspiration and examples. My kiddos just love getting creative with the designs.
Love your video! Where'd you get your Ferby colored pencil holders? (The ones that look like logs)
Here ya go : www.etsy.com/listing/469755092/waldorf-inspired-tree-branch-pencil?ref=shop_home_active_9
I subscribed 15 seconds into the intro 😂👍❤
Awww thank you!!!
Simply Myla K. Same 😂❤️
Thank you for sharing these resources. :)
I wasn’t able to open up the blog post that goes along with this video.
I’m sorry! It’s an old video and the blog was eaten by the internet unfortunately. It was completely lost - all my work!
Great suggestions! Thank you!
You're welcome!
Love the video. Our family is also on NC. I am interested in the resources that you shared, but the link no longer works. Can you provide a new link to your new site?
Unfortunately when I lost the blog, I lost all of these posts.
What brand are your crayons, pastels, and paints. They look like they would last FOREVER
This is an old video and we still have most of it lol. The crayons are still going strong (they are filana brand - which replaces any broken crayon for free for life!) and the colored pencils are ferby (giant ones) and they are in near perfect condition. And the paints we lost in a move but they did great!
would you consider getting "the good & the beautiful" math once it comes out, my little one is doing the prek work right now so i don't have much curriculum just a little bit of manipulative and such, but i'm worried but watching and seeing videos that i might need to purchase extra curriculum thats not including the "TG&TB" i really would like to stick to just that but I'm also afraid I'd be missing out on "math-u-see" for example
I am happy that G&B is coming out with a math program! I knew they would be doing this! So my stance on math is "Do What Works For Each Kid." We have been trying to figure out which math works best for my youngest. My eldest two are back to Teaching Textbooks because they are in higher math and it makes it MUCH easier for me and them. For my son, we have been testing out MUS, Math Lessons for a Living Education and Waldorf Math. There is one more I plan on testing out before settling on one : Simply Charlotte Mason's new elementary math. I feel like that might end up being the one that works for him. So when choosing math I go with : 1. What works for that specific child's learning style. and 2. What works with my teaching style.
I am creating a curriculum called Lamp + Light. Initially it was going to include math, but I just feel it's best for everyone to choose what is going to work for them and their kiddo.
Hi sister. Are you still using these curriculum ? Do you still recommend these?
Do the older kids use the crayon too or up until what age would you recommend. My two are 7 and 10 and trying to decide if it is still worth investing in them. Their first year homeschooling. We start in 2 weeks.
My middle daughter uses the block crayons for bordering her pages in her Waldorf-ish main lesson books. She's almost 11. My almost 13 year old has never used them but loves the giant colored pencils, especially the skin toned ones for history drawings. My younger one is almost 7 and he will be using them until he's also about 10 or 11.
If you wanted to try out some stick beeswax crayons at a lower price point but that are still awesome, I've heard amazing things about these : amzn.to/2qswg5c
You're simply amazing. ❤️
You're so sweet!
Thank you for sharing and just being you :)
You're so sweet!
Where did you get the tree color pencil holders or did you make them? Btw curriculum looks great for him & I'm definitely going to check out the Dave Ramsey Jr. kit! ;)
Hey Jessica! I don't make things because I lack that awesome skill. LOL I got those from a cool shop on Etsy! They are linked in the blog post under "Fun Supplies" but I'll link them here for ya!
www.etsy.com/listing/469755092/waldorf-inspired-tree-branch-pencil?ref=shop_home_active_12
Have a great day! Er...evening?
Oh and the Dave Ramsey kit is pretty cool! Everett feels pretty grown up checking things off his chore chart and "doing finance" haha!
SaltyTribeCo Thanks Jane. Umm....I apologize I'm just now seeing these ha #momlife However I'm binging on some of your videos at the moment since I'm looking for some new curriculum to possibly use with my 7yo. son and I was looking at TGATB language arts. So appreciate all the thorough, beautiful, and down to earth vids. You're awesome mama, thank you again ♡
Do you complete a lesson a day with your kindergartener?
How did they learn those things if you didn't start homeschool until later? Teach me please lol
LOL! My eldest was in public school until halfway through 2nd grade but she could read by age 4 on her own. I have no idea how she learned. We discovered it one Christmas season when she opened the correct present. We asked her how she knew which one was hers and she said that it said Lorelai. So then we opened some books and discovered she could already read. I was the same way.
My mom has no idea how I learned to read either. So we talked about it recently. I do remember her reading to me a LOT and giving me TONSSSSS of books to look through. I remember associating the sounds with the words, then I would locate those words in new books and figure out the sounds they made and then used that to sound things out. Best I can remember. I have a freakishly detailed memory since I was little haha!
I read to my kids a lot as the main source of schooling. Maybe they learned the same way? I give them lots of books to peruse, but it may just come down to "that's just how they are" I am not really sure!
SaltyTribeCo one word: "Exposure".
Your videos are so very nice and it shows that you give your kids such a well balance in life and very decent exposure to the great things our world has to offer! I love it!
You're so sweet!
Don’t know if it’s been asked but what brand are those mop brushes ?
What's the link for the notebooks?
My blog is gone due to some technical difficulties. Unfortunately I don’t have the links up on the video.
Hello! This comment is about a year later - how did the “Creative Form Drawing” book go for you all??? Thanks!
We loved it!!!! Definitely worth the cost I was apprehensive about!
SaltyTribeCo thanks so much! I appreciate that over your ‘youtube life’ you’ve been consistent in pressing into your original goal of being a minimal homeschooler.
Where I would get a booklets like this.
I think I got them off of amazon years ago when I filmed this, but I buy booklets off of Waldorf Supply stores now.
What is the Etsy store you talked about?
Love it. What is the name of blue jornal from Amazon. I would love to order them also.
Thank you.
I would love to buy some of those handmade nature journals in the different shades of blue. Link? :)

Hey! I'll add that to the list to record next week! I'll do both of the Dave Ramsey finance things in one video. We love it!
