      Very glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you for your sympathy. I'm staying positive about it (hence the podcast theme). This gives me time to take a break after working for so long and focus more on passion projects. It'll work out, and I'm very lucky to be in a position where I can survive being unemployed for a while.
      Thank you for listening!

If xyz criteria were different then abc game would be eligible? I LOVED Shadow of the Erdtree (and no hate intended) but that is a terrible argument. That's just moving goalposts.
SotE is an expansion; you are required to not only purchase the original game, but beat two mid-late game bosses to even access the DLC; you continue over the same character, save file and can travel to and from the base game to the DLC.
Miles Morales is a new game; it's standalone; it does not require a purchase of the original game, and more so, you are not required to play any of the original game to access this game; you cannot travel to and from the two games; you do not carry forward a save file or character from the original game to the DLC.
    Two very different situations.
Loved this first pod. Hoping you can get back on your feet soon, but will definitely subscribe and continue watching while this is a thing!

I see your and everyone else's point, but I don't see an expansion as any less worthy of that discussion as something else.
Maybe this is because I worked in the industry, but the effort required to make something like a Miles Morales is no different than the effort for SotE, and what it offers is no less meaningful. They both heavily reuse assets and offer a different experience. The Like a Dragon games also do this, for what it's worth, and we all see those as separate games, too.
If that many people wrote SotE in to say it was their favorite experience of the year, I would find it weird to deny those people based on an arbitrary line drawn based on how it's accessed considering the entire point of the event is to celebrate and give appropriate recognition to what we loved about this year in games.
I'm not disagreeing it's an expansion; I'm saying exactly this: "If it's that good, who cares?" It might be moving goalposts, but to me, as someone whose only sport they like is a fake one (wrestling), I say move those goalposts! Or, better yet, let in SotE into the GOTY category while the referee isn't looking! It's more interesting that way.
I am very grateful for the comment and love this type of discussion. Thank you for that and the listen in general. It means a lot!

Re: Stray -- I am NOT a cat person. I'll be lovely to every cat I meet, but owning one would be my personal hell. I fucking ADORED Stray, and I would do anything for that digital fur ball. I did the platinum twice; the second time on PS4. There's only one trophy that's a little RNG dependant, the rest is such a fun time. Would 1000% recommend.

There's a cat sitting on my lap now as I write this. My cat hatred is a funny narrative, and I wouldn't call myself a cat person, but I don't want to cause them harm.
      Unless they cross me.
I'll check out Stray eventually. It does seem interesting.
      Thanks for the comment!
