Good info here. Basic mechanics are always your groundwork! I would add a little bit for the younger crowd though. 1) I wouldn't teach kids to go backwards on their rocker step. Sideways can be ok, as long as they're not going too far. However, kids ,in general, have bad balance, and completely shifting their weight off of their pivot foot can often result in them not regaining balance again, which means no balance point and/or falling forward or sideways during that wind-up. 2) You may want to add a step 3 1/2 where you show kids how to get the ball from their glove and up in the air behind their head.
