    First love the channel, love the story. It just feels like I am sitting in a pub swapping stories. Part of the lesson to me is that the RC should be posting at the finish the OCS boats so everyone knows, in real time where they stand. Probably not going to happen but it would be helpful.
    Your story also flashed me back to a conversation I had many years ago with Jud Smith (2018 J70 world champ, but then probably just a multi-time national champion) about how to start, late in a series with the regatta on the line. His response sort of surprised me as his approach was, the more important the start, the more conservative the start. His feeling was that putting yourself at risk at the start could put you in an unrecoverable position. But if you got a good conservative start, that you would never put yourself in a unrecoverable hole. But then again he has world class speed. Thanks for to you for reminding me of something I had probably forgotten.
    Cheers.

    In my opinion James in the second upwind broke rule 18.3 , you have to luff a little to avoid, its on film, lovely video very interesting!! cheers from ARG!!!

    Well I’ve got 728 which is a 2000 hull so 627 must must be a similar age, maybe even older

      I recall Mary saying their family 200 (which her brother was sailing) is 21 and that's 629. That was also the boat Luke and Mary sailed to win the endeavour so it's clearly a good vintage (or could be good sailors ;) )

    Really great video - love how you are delivering the racing with "human" decisions! What cameras are you using onboard, would like a similar set-up on my RS400

    • @MozzySails
      @MozzySails  2 года назад +2

      I have a GoPro Hero 7 on the mast, stabilisation turned off and set the super view for maximum field of view. Then on the boom end (via homemade mount) I have Hero 9 with Max lens mod which allows horizon lock in superview.

    What camera / gps are you using. Impressed with the compass, distance and speed info on screeen

      Cameras are GoPro 7 (mast) and 9 on the boom (with Max Lens mod for horizon lock).
      The GPS track is recorded on my Fenix watch and synced to footage with Garmin's Virb edit software.

    Is that RS200 you are racing in your boat? Where do you usually keep it?

    • @MozzySails
      @MozzySails  2 года назад

      Yes, the boats are RS 200s. We sail from Hayling Island Sailing Club and keep our boat there

    Thanks for this Tom, and many congrats to you and Emma - unusual way to find these things out - maybe old news, if not, I hope she was happy with your announcement! 😆
    I was interested at first bottom mark in R1 you didn't discuss an immediate tack to clear all the dirt from those kites coming in on starboard - though maybe the footage didn't show equal number on the port lay... ?

    • @MozzySails
      @MozzySails  2 года назад +1

      I was just a little slow to recognise the opportunity, then once we had continued for 2-3 lengths we had boats on top of us and the time had passed. In the next race we did tack immediately at the leeward and managed to pass James that way (although he re-took the lead on the final downwind).
      Emma is doing well but it's why I've not really sailed the 200 much this season except some calm Wednesday evenings!
