The one thing that would've made this episode better is if it ended with Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash returning and this happened: Twilight: Rainbow! Fluttershy! How was your- Rainbow Dash: I'm NOT speaking to _her._ (points at Fluttershy and flies off in a huff) Twilight: Fluttershy? Fluttershy: I'm not speaking to _her_ either, hmph. (storms off) Twilight: Oh dear. Spike: (sigh) Here we go again!
I find it interesting that Rarity says "Luxury Cruses *never* sink!" and then, a few minutes later, comes back dress as Rose from Titanic. "... that ever outed a boat!" So the boat's been in the closet up until now?
After watching this episode, I looked up "bunyip" on wikipedia. Apparently it originates from Australian Aboriginal mythology. Wow, this show is very diverse when it comes to mythical creatures.
Of course, the mythological Bunyip is nothing like the one in this episode. In the original Aboriginal myths it came from, the Bunyip is often described as a ferocious, malevolent, predatory beast with a taste for human flesh that lives in freshwater locations like swamps, billabongs and creeks.
here's how I can tell it played out, from the best I can tell; All three ponies came to the ship with their own idea of how to make the trip fun. Rarity obviously over-packed, but maybe not to the extent Pinkie claimed (in AJ's story there were fewer porters, they just took multiple trips). Somehow Rarity heard AJ's brief attempt at a pirate send-off and let it color her impression of AJ the entire trip. As they set off, Pinkie brought out the snacks she brought. Rarity then offered the 'fancy snacks' she brought. Pinkie tried one, and for whatever reason Rarity then lifted the tray (probably something minor cause she left it out in her story) when AJ tripped on some of Pinkie's party supplies and crashed into Rarity, sending the sandwiches overboard. From the angle Pinkie was standing however, it just looked like Rarity tossed the sandwiches. A short time later, Pinkie set up the Piñata and offered it to Rarity, who declined. Pinkie then though AJ would want to play, and set her up without permission. around this point, due to the incoming storm, current, bumping the wheel, or whatever the ship turned around (that's the best explanation I can think of to explain how the were back in the harbor). As the storm passed through, AJ managed to at least partially get the blind fold off (in Rarity's story it was AJ's eyepatch) and ran for the steering wheel. AJ and Rarity then misheard each other over the storm; AJ somehow misheard 'perhaps I could chart a course through calmer waters' as something like 'This would make a perfect table cloth for my cheeseboard', while Rarity misheard 'Its the only way to find Thunder Cove' (which I will assume is a port they could take shelter at, not realizing they had turned around) as 'tis be the only way to find Plunder Cover!' Pinkie, being Pinkie, saw this and interpreted it as a game of tug-of-war and jumped in. Then all three looked up to see the Bunyip, attracted by the Cucumber sandwiches, rise from the deep, which they mistook for a large wave, and the ship capsized. Then they got up and found themselves back in the harbor.

It's funny, I've never seen the movie Titanic, and didn't have a clue it was an actual direct movie reference, I just thought it looked like the type of dress style from that time period. I actually called it much better than I realized. XD
That's true, but then again, the Breezies had pretty similar features, which made it somewhat difficult to disinguish between male and female. Maybe it's the same for Tri-horned Bunyips?

Definitely agree on Applejack's honesty here. And Applejack's version felt the closest to what probably happened. Rarity and Pinkie Pie were exaggerated, but not as much as much as Applejack was exaggerated in Rarity's story and Rarity was in Pinkie's story.
Yeah, that thought occurred to me too. Then again, this is the same world where mud can be completely wiped off of a body with one swipe of a hoof, and where a mane can be dripping wet one second, and back to its normal dry appearance the next. Bottom line: don't think about it too much. XD

Horseshoe Bay is so close to Baltimare on the season 6 map, that it may even be a part of Baltimare. I would personally love it if this turned out to be Horseshoe Bay. (Horseshoe Bay has been shown in some of the comics, and Daring Do was also there in the IRL Daring Do book called: "Daring Do and the Marked Theif of Marapore". It seems like an interesting place)

Theory on the apple ship: its actually a cargo ship that takes apple family produce and such to a bunch of different ports. Whatever branch of the apple family that lives in Boltimare is the branch that does all of the trading for big things like that. Also the CMC have gone to loads of places unsupervised.

This was a fun episode. I love Rashomon stories, and I can remember episodes from other cartoons like it: Sonic Boom, Ed Edd n Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, and Codename Kids Next Door, just to name a few. Heck, even Sonic Adventure was a Rashomon-style story. The girls' perceptions of what happened were entertaining and hilarious, and even though they misunderstood each other's behavior, it was sweet of all of them to want to bring each other out of their element. It was just a simple lapse in communication.
@6:10 "Where is this?" I think that when Twilight mentioned the "Seaward Shoals boat trip", she was referring to the port town as Seaward Shoals. I mean, it's obviously not the name of the boat trip, since it was just the three of them doing whatever on a private boat.
OK Pinkie going to take care of her muffins, and Twi and Spike just up and left for AJ when Pinkie would had told them how they got back before they even got half way to AJ's, that is my only complaint. I mean really, just why? So the ponies use pirate ships..hm very interesting.

Hmm, not sure how to respond to your list on this one. It seems like you've pretty much made up your mind that this was a terrible episode, and I'm not sure I can change that for you, but I will say a few things. Getting "out of your element" is a great idea for a lot of people, myself included. It can be easy for us to get stuck in a rut of our daily routines, and sometimes we need to force ourselves to get out of the rut and do something new and different, try new things, see new places, etc. Some of the best memories I have of my life were the times where I went on a trip to somewhere I haven't ever been before, and heck, if I had stayed "in my element", I would never have started doing reaction videos. As for the rest of it, this episode is the type that you just can't take too seriously. It's absurd on almost every front, and that's on purpose, and you just have to enjoy the absurdity of it and laugh a little. Was the problem fixed quickly? Sure, but the lesson was still very clear, and it was a very important one at that. Honestly, I've been in situations very recently where miscommunication was causing major friendship issues, and I can say that it's a big problem that actually can be very difficult to talk about. Given that it's such a serious topic, I like the way they creatively wrapped it into a very fun story so that it's easy for the young viewers to understand. Anyway, I'm sorry if you still don't find this episode enjoyable. We all have our own tastes, nothing wrong with that. For me though, this was just too fun of an episode not to love, especially with what they did with Applejack. Actually, I feel like this might just have given AJ's popularity in the fandom a major boost, which is something I've been waiting a long time for. ^_^ And strangely, I don't even find it all that unbelievable. We all have wacky sides that can come out in the right circumstances. I've seen it happen with myself, and others as well, and somehow AJ just cutting loose and acting that way seems to fit her. I only wish we could've had the rest of the Apple family out there with her!
Mm, definitely a different feeling for an episode; loved how they saw each other, Rarity saw AJ; pirate AJ, lol. And how AJ saw Pinkie Pie, and AJ and Pinkie Pie saw Rarity; all of it was great. It was really funny and a nice lesson for them to learn, it's obviously trying to be a Twilight episode but it was still about the other ponies mostly, which I don't mind, but I kind of wish we got more Twilight in the episode. Really enjoyed Spike's remarks; they were hilarious. But not quite sure where to place this episode; still enjoyed it though nonetheless. Also congrats on 4K! You deserve it. I'm not sure if it was really a "Twilight" episode. It was focused on all four of them, just like Buckball Season was focused on AJ, RD, Pinkie, and Fluttershy. I love these episodes where we get focus on larger sub-groupings of the Mane 6, definitely fun to explore the varying character dynamics. Oh, and thank you! ^_^

After watching this episode, I looked up "bunyip" on wikipedia. Apparently it originates from Australian Aboriginal mythology. Wow, this show is very diverse when it comes to mythical creatures.
Of course, the mythological Bunyip is nothing like the one in this episode. In the original Aboriginal myths it came from, the Bunyip is often described as a ferocious, malevolent, predatory beast with a taste for human flesh that lives in freshwater locations like swamps, billabongs and creeks.

I just like sharing weird trivia facts.
here's how I can tell it played out, from the best I can tell;
All three ponies came to the ship with their own idea of how to make the trip fun. Rarity obviously over-packed, but maybe not to the extent Pinkie claimed (in AJ's story there were fewer porters, they just took multiple trips). Somehow Rarity heard AJ's brief attempt at a pirate send-off and let it color her impression of AJ the entire trip. As they set off, Pinkie brought out the snacks she brought. Rarity then offered the 'fancy snacks' she brought. Pinkie tried one, and for whatever reason Rarity then lifted the tray (probably something minor cause she left it out in her story) when AJ tripped on some of Pinkie's party supplies and crashed into Rarity, sending the sandwiches overboard. From the angle Pinkie was standing however, it just looked like Rarity tossed the sandwiches. A short time later, Pinkie set up the Piñata and offered it to Rarity, who declined. Pinkie then though AJ would want to play, and set her up without permission. around this point, due to the incoming storm, current, bumping the wheel, or whatever the ship turned around (that's the best explanation I can think of to explain how the were back in the harbor). As the storm passed through, AJ managed to at least partially get the blind fold off (in Rarity's story it was AJ's eyepatch) and ran for the steering wheel. AJ and Rarity then misheard each other over the storm; AJ somehow misheard 'perhaps I could chart a course through calmer waters' as something like 'This would make a perfect table cloth for my cheeseboard', while Rarity misheard 'Its the only way to find Thunder Cove' (which I will assume is a port they could take shelter at, not realizing they had turned around) as 'tis be the only way to find Plunder Cover!' Pinkie, being Pinkie, saw this and interpreted it as a game of tug-of-war and jumped in. Then all three looked up to see the Bunyip, attracted by the Cucumber sandwiches, rise from the deep, which they mistook for a large wave, and the ship capsized. Then they got up and found themselves back in the harbor.
I too find the Applejack Pirate very amusing.

It's funny, I've never seen the movie Titanic, and didn't have a clue it was an actual direct movie reference, I just thought it looked like the type of dress style from that time period. I actually called it much better than I realized. XD
Applegeek The writers must have confused the animators. While continually calling it a sir and other manly names, it has girl eyelashes and cute eyes.

Definitely agree on Applejack's honesty here. And Applejack's version felt the closest to what probably happened. Rarity and Pinkie Pie were exaggerated, but not as much as much as Applejack was exaggerated in Rarity's story and Rarity was in Pinkie's story.

Horseshoe Bay is so close to Baltimare on the season 6 map, that it may even be a part of Baltimare. I would personally love it if this turned out to be Horseshoe Bay. Theory on the apple ship: its actually a cargo ship that takes apple family produce and such to a bunch of different ports. Whatever branch of the apple family that lives in Boltimare is the branch that does all of the trading for big things like that. Also the CMC have gone to loads of places unsupervised.

This was a fun episode. I love Rashomon stories, and I can remember episodes from other cartoons like it: Sonic Boom, Ed Edd n Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, and Codename Kids Next Door, just to name a few. Heck, even Sonic Adventure was a Rashomon-style story. The girls' perceptions of what happened were entertaining and hilarious, and even though they misunderstood each other's behavior, it was sweet of all of them to want to bring each other out of their element. It was just a simple lapse in communication.

I think that when Twilight mentioned the "Seaward Shoals boat trip", she was referring to the port town as Seaward Shoals.
I mean, it's obviously not the name of the boat trip, since it was just the three of them doing whatever on a private boat.

So many things were wrong with this. Using the treasure for ice cream without washing it, Rarity trying to call THAT "luxury", the fact they didn't get out of the harbor.... I did like the monster. So cute and monster-y. These ponies need a VACATION PEOPLE! Their brains are NOT working.

Hmm, not sure how to respond to your list on this one. It seems like you've pretty much made up your mind that this was a terrible episode, and I'm not sure I can change that for you, but I will say a few things.
Getting "out of your element" is a great idea for a lot of people, myself included. It can be easy for us to get stuck in a rut of our daily routines, and sometimes we need to force ourselves to get out of the rut and do something new and different, try new things, see new places, etc. Some of the best memories I have of my life were the times where I went on a trip to somewhere I haven't ever been before, and heck, if I had stayed "in my element", I would never have started doing reaction videos.
As for the rest of it, this episode is the type that you just can't take too seriously. It's absurd on almost every front, and that's on purpose, and you just have to enjoy the absurdity of it and laugh a little. Was the problem fixed quickly? Sure, but the lesson was still very clear, and it was a very important one at that. Honestly, I've been in situations very recently where miscommunication was causing major friendship issues, and I can say that it's a big problem that actually can be very difficult to talk about. Given that it's such a serious topic, I like the way they creatively wrapped it into a very fun story so that it's easy for the young viewers to understand.
Anyway, I'm sorry if you still don't find this episode enjoyable. We all have our own tastes, nothing wrong with that. For me though, this was just too fun of an episode not to love, especially with what they did with Applejack. Actually, I feel like this might just have given AJ's popularity in the fandom a major boost, which is something I've been waiting a long time for. ^_^ And strangely, I don't even find it all that unbelievable. We all have wacky sides that can come out in the right circumstances. I've seen it happen with myself, and others as well, and somehow AJ just cutting loose and acting that way seems to fit her. I only wish we could've had the rest of the Apple family out there with her!

Mm, definitely a different feeling for an episode; loved how they saw each other, Rarity saw AJ; pirate AJ, lol. And how AJ saw Pinkie Pie, and AJ and Pinkie Pie saw Rarity; all of it was great. It was really funny and a nice lesson for them to learn, it's obviously trying to be a Twilight episode but it was still about the other ponies mostly, which I don't mind, but I kind of wish we got more Twilight in the episode. Really enjoyed Spike's remarks; they were hilarious. But not quite sure where to place this episode; still enjoyed it though nonetheless. Also congrats on 4K! You deserve it. Great reaction and can't wait for more! XD.

I'm not sure if it was really a "Twilight" episode. It was focused on all four of them, just like Buckball Season was focused on AJ, RD, Pinkie, and Fluttershy. I love these episodes where we get focus on larger sub-groupings of the Mane 6, definitely fun to explore the varying character dynamics. Oh, and thank you! ^_^
Applegeek That is true; I just really want a Twilight episode; I've missed her episodes. Don't get me wrong, I love Starlight and her character, especially her character development. Hopefully in season 7 they'll have a even number of episodes for Twilight and Starlight. XD.
